sure, but you might be stuck with store credit, or whatever. still, you spent a day or two camped out in front of walmart for nothing. i guess it's not that big of a deal to some people. i just wanted to point out that it's by no means a sure thing.

I called around to the local Walmarts and BB today around noon. The Walmarts all said they were receiving only 6 PS3, 2/4 ( High end/ Low end Model). There were already 6 people at one and 8 at the other camping out, they were doing 1st come, 1st serve. Best Buy guy said that they are only releasing half as many as originally planned here in the states and that the next shipment would not be until around Feb. or March of next year. Good luck to all it will be nice profit w/ only half as many released. I expect you could get anywhere from 1800-2500 on ebay for em.
I just called local Best Buy and there have been 65 people in line since yesterday afternoon for the midnight release.
Oh Vermont, how I love you. My local Best Buy today told me that last year for the 360 people showed up at 3 pm the day before. I'm gonna go do some recon right now but I'm pretty sure I'll get in line at 2 tomorrow and be ok.
6ish people at Circuit City, no one at Best Buy. I'll be there at noonish tomorrow.
It's supposed to be pouring down rain from now until 9 AM tomorrow, I'm hoping that helps my chances.
7 AM tomorrow at BB with a tent, gore tex, fleece, jetboil, and a shitload of course work. Yay!
A tip for everyone: Don't tell the others in line that you're buying it to sell on ebay, it will piss people off and make them inclined to be douchebags if you switch with friends for food and bathroom breaks.
I'll be there around noonish tomorrow wherever we go. 666 and mcroon pm me.
the yay area looks fucked to shit. No chance at any Best Buy, circut city, walmart, or target i called/drove by. All the best buys had at least 10 tents in front of each with assorted chairs, etc. Also, the managers that I talked to said that they were probably getting less then they predicted even a few days ago...
Well, here's my dumbass story...
I drove by my local Best Buy in San Luis Obispo at 4:30 this afternoon and there was noone in line. So, me and two of my roommates figured we'd go there tonight around 8 and be able to score one of those things each. So we went, brought beers, chairs, poker chips, etc. Showed up, looked at the line -- not too bad. Some kid was actually walking around with a list, said that Best Buy wasn't going to honor it, but at least it was something if others showed up and tried to pull some shit, so we said okay, put our names on the list #38,39,40... Hey, alright, we actually have a chance, only a couple of hours 'til midnight, this will be the easiest 800-1k we'll each ever make... Sat around for a few minutes and then a guy from Best Buy came by saying that the line is going to start forming at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning and whoever was there now wasn't guaranteed a spot... Wtf? What do you mean tomorrow morning? I thought it was a midnight release tonight? Everyone looks at us like we are a bunch of retards... And then things start coming together for me -- when we called Best Buy earlier in the day the machines said that the lines would start forming 24 hours before the thing is realeased -- apparently that's 8 am tomorrow morning... Fuck, all day today I thought it was Thursday for some reason and that my local store would have a midnight release... Fuck! So, there was no way we were staying there for 36 hours, so we just drank our beers and went home. :nonono2:
PM's sent...
We have a plan...probably will fail but its a little different than most so we'll keep it a secret. This thing has gotten out of hand, its to the point that there is no point.
Update:
Just heard on the radio that the Playstation store at the Metreon in SF just handed out wristbands to 700 people that are waiting in line. If they wait until midnight they get one.
I wonder how many people are buying PS3s for themselves and how many are just planning on flipping...And when does the next shipment of PS3s come in?
Jesus, just looked on Ebay and some of the pre-sales (people with receipts, waiting in line right now apparently) are going for 3 grand. WTF?????
I'm currently in line at best buy, and I've been in line since 5pm last night. There are 20 60gigs here and 10 20gigs. I'm # 14 in line and guaranteed to get one. In reply to other posts, this is not a pyramid scheme. Its a one time buy and sell for profit. Secondly, there is no way in hell that anyone will actually lose money by doing this. Systems will NOT drop under 1500 before christmas. Sure, I cant be 100% positive, but I'd be willing to bet a lot on it.
eBay Restricts Sale of PlayStation 3
By RACHEL KONRAD, AP
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Nov. 16) - People pining for the sleek PlayStation 3 gaming console might find shortages on eBay as well.
The unfettered online marketplace for such items as Elvis memorabilia and Ferraris is imposing restrictions on the PS3, which is expected to become one of the hottest holiday gifts when it hits stores Friday.
Only established eBay Inc. vendors - those who have racked up comments from at least 50 previous customers and have positive ratings of at least 98 out of 100 points - can list PS3s before Friday. Each vendor can only list only one PS3 per eBay account.
The listing must include a photo of the pre-order receipt, and the seller must guarantee shipment within 30 days from the date of purchase. Before Friday, PS3s can be listed on eBay only in auction formats - not as "buy it now" items.
Potential buyers, trying to avoid long lines, rain checks and empty-handed sales clerks on Friday, have already bid up PS3s to $2,300. The suggested retail price is $500 for a basic PS3 with a 20-gigabyte drive and $600 for a version with 60 gigabytes, built-in wireless and a Blu-ray DVD player for high-definition video.
Sony had billed PlayStation 3 as being compatible with the previous PlayStation machines.
Sony Corp., which has already delayed the PS3 launch twice, expects to have 400,000 PS3s available for its U.S. launch. EBay listed 3,144 PS3s or related items by Wednesday morning.
The restrictions, part of eBay's standing policy for all "pre-sale" items, also apply to Nintendo Co.'s competing Wii console, which goes on sale Sunday. EBay had 2,354 listings for Wiis and related items.
Microsoft Corp. launched its Xbox 360 console last year.
"We've seen a history with highly anticipated game consoles in extremely short supply during their initial launch," eBay spokeswoman Catherine England said. "With the Xbox, we saw a high number of well-intentioned sellers unable to meet obligations due to restricted supply."

If I'd known they were going to sell for 2 grand plus each, I definitely would have taken the day off work...hell, I'd make more in one day waiting for the PS3 than I do in a couple weeks of work. :frown:
goddamn it's fucked in seattle. every store from northgate to lynnwood is packed. too late i guess. i thought 24-48 hours was going to be enough. fred meyers is raffling off their 4 units per store at 7 a.m. yay!
From what I've been reading almost everyone in line for a PS3 is there to flip it. I wonder if there is going to be any market for these things on ebay as almost every PS3 sold tonight is going right up for resale.
ya F work I should have taken today off. Make enough for a couple pairs of new skis in a day.
the market they're all banking on is the rich parents that will buy whatever their kid wants for Christmas, but doesn't have the sense/time to stand in line to get it at release. any diehard sony fanboys will be in line with the scalpers.
good luck to those of you taking the plunge, hopefully you all can teach sony a lesson in economics by making a profit on the product they're selling at a loss!
People have been lined up in the Big Snapple for days now. Apparently some enterprising folks are paying the homeless to stand in line for them. I find it all very bizarre.
http://www.gothamist.com/archives/20...16/ps3_wii.php
that happened in japan too. japaneese businessmen paid poor chineese nationals to stand in line and buy a ps3 for them.
here's a good note for those of you with a good enough spot in line to get a system: it's looking like the launch numbers are going to be even lower than previously reported, as few as 150,000-200,000.

Given that the next shipment of PS3's to US is coming in 2007 (afaik), I'd say it might very well be possible that the price actually goes up towards christmas when even more rich parents begin realizing that the kids need new toys.. If I were in US and if I were camping for PS3 to flip it on ebay I'd probably wait a week or even longer before selling, wait for the biggest rush of sellers to disappear.. but thats just me.
Posting from best buy-
I'm #24, so it looks pretty good. Everyone I've spoken to plans on selling it once they get one.
