Ugh. Pretty crazy you guys are getting the western style smoke out.
Cool sunsets and sunrises but otherwise sucks balls.

The cutoff low pressure system that is hanging out over Nova Scotia is pushing maritime air just far enough west to keep most of northern New England (VT, NH, ME) out of the worst smoke. However, that same circulation around the low is also responsible for concentrating the smoke over areas just west of here.
Yeah, places like here :( I was seeing numbers around 400-460 here in the Lower Hudson Valley but now it's back to 240 in my 'hood and the 400+ is in NJ. I don't even want to smoke weed  because my throat feels like shit already.
Upon further review ..... you guys are in big trouble.
Along with the rest of us.
400+?? Holy fuck
Use them n95s.
Also MERV-13 airfilters, or HEPA filters for indoors. The cheap hack is a box fan with a MERV13 furnace filter. Aha you say, I'll just put that in my furnace... note that many furnaces are not designed for filters this fine, check before installing.
Good luck and hope the wind changes.
In 2017 there was a 30k acre fire about two miles from our house. AQI was in the 450 range for days. Kinda looked like this at midday

Ms TBS said I could trim my weed crop indoors because it smelled better than the indoor air
We regularly get multiple days of 240+ around here
That looks like NY/NJ right now.
Wtf Canada?
New high mark that I've found on the map: 529 in Mt Bethel, PA

Sorry to hear that the AQ is so bad. Amazon used to have corsi rosenthal box kits available. I’m not sure if that’s still the case. They’re cheaper and more effective than many portable HEPA filters.

NYC is mostly around 400 now with high 400s and even a 508 on the beach on Long Island. As a cloud bank moves in from the north you'd think it would be moving the smoke ahead of and around it but, no. It's capping it and holding it tight to the ground just to my north now, the pics are dark grey with swirly air
Some say “get used to it.”
As Smoke Darkens the Sky, the Future Becomes Clear
Yeah, it got pretty bad today.

Then like an hour later in Yonkers

Couldn't see foul balls at all when it was still high above the ground Tuesday night, just got lost in the background of the heavy white smoke.

Then it got grim out my midtown office window yesterday.

Much better today...so far.
AQI peaked at 460 in CNY yesterday.
Is it too much to hope that this wakes more and more people up about the need for serious climate change action?
Good luck with that.
It's better this morning, local numbers are around 160-170 but the damage is done. My throat and eyes feel like shit and this mild nausea sux. Not that I need to go anywhere but at least the airports are open again because the visibility is so much better. Looks like Philly to DC is in the shit today though :(
DC area in the 400's this morning. Baltimore and Philly 300's.
There is A LOT of smoke over North America right now. :(
