Wow, this was an amazing thread.
I quit last year and haven't looked back once. It was two days of suffering but I feel really good now. No cravings at all.
Thank you all for your support on this one. You really have to want to quit and this thread helped me a lot.

i dont know if this was mentioned in this thread or not, but i learned in health that putting a cinnamon stick in your mouth when u have a craving helps lower the craving because of a certain ingredient.

Anybody who's every quit smoking/dipping/chewing can tell you that it's far from just being psychological. I've been off the stuff for 7ish years, and still get the occasional craving...and I think the shit is nasty.
Also, they've been telling us that Nicotine is more addictive than Heroine since the 6th grade. I don't think level of withdrawal symptoms are a measure of how addictive a substance is.

The "more addictive than heroin" refers to the relapse rates several years down the road. ie., after 7 years of being clean, a smoker is more likely to relapse than a heroin addict.
Personally, I think that has a lot to do with the prevalance of tobacco availabilty, useage and advertising. When you want smack, you cant just go to the 7-11 and buy a bag.

Good luck to you both. Smoking cigs is a fucking nasty habit. I also think that smoking in public is pretty rude to nonsmokers. I hate the smell. If I'm hungover, there's a chance that a cloud of cigarette smoke will make me vomit. It's happened before.
Some people have respiratory illnesses that cigarette smoke exacerbates. My good buddy's wife has asthma like you wouldn't believe, and if she smells cigarette smoke on someone's clothing, it can trigger an attack.
I guess what I'm saying is that if you don't have the willpower to quit for your health, which, really, should be reason enough, quit for other people. I don't know either of you personally, but I do know that I'd love to ski with you some time. You both sound like awesome, considerate people. So be considerate of non smokers, and become one.
