Farmer, I'll give you a call when I get off work around 9. I don't think I'll be going up tomorrow as I'm way behind on histology. Unless something HUGE happens. Saturday is tentative, I told my buddy I'd mountain bike with him sat. morning. But if there is a deep day he will have to understand. Sunday I'll be at the Basin for sure, but I'll be skiing for a signature. If you're up there though, come find me, in the signature program we mostly just ski around. :) I'm thinking if there's 10" or more on Sat. morning I'll come up. I was kind of thinking about the basin on Saturday and BP on Sunday? again, it all depends on snow conditions. Cameron pass last weekend was terrible, but then there was no new snow either... we'll see. I'll give you a ring tonight.Quote:

unless of course the sat photo is wrong.
Foggy, if I were standing west of the divide and the wind blows in from the east and across from the divide, I'm experiencing downsloping winds.
Upslope means exactly that. A storm such as this one is considered an upslope event for the front range and denver but should the east winds result in warmer temperatures and dry conditions in the west, such would be considered a downslope.
Not that it makes a damn bit of difference, mr_gyptian is right-- the only thing that matters is that we've been getting skunked and it'd be nice for Ullr to make it all up to us!
It's upslope because it's up the eastern slope of the divide. Upslope = easterly flow. Your rationale would have every storm from the west being called 'upslope' because it goes up the western slope of the divide.
Ah, I'm curious, where are you planning on mountain biking? Isn't it supposed to be a bit wet in a 200 mile radius?Quote:

Oh Baby, Oh Baby, Oh Baby, Oh Baby
The stoke is on
wahama a few words for you. "call out of work"
I will be at Loveland with big thanks to SheRa.
Upslope, downslope, crossbreeze, who gives a rats ass, lets just hope it dumps. [antijinx]
As far as my Atmospheric classes recollect in my scattered brain. Eastern wind=upslope.
Crinkle, already got the day off, just getting stoked, please excuse my excitement:D
Well, I am pleased to say that I will be skiing at loveland as well on Saturday. Many thanks to SheRa for the hook-up... especially because i have never met her. However, since i usually ski with Funken and he went home to the east coast for the weekend, i need to make some new friends for the day. Any one mind me tagging with your group (i am speedy, no worries)? I am staying on the west side of the divide so i can be there as early as they open. Just let me know a time and a place. I will also be at A-baisn or breck (hopefully not breck, unless the snow falls strangely) on fri. 2m AK rockets or FF's for Tele and a full face helmet most likely.
I'll be at loveland on Saturday too thanks to the help of the benevolent SheRa. I'd like to ski with anyone who doesn't mind having me along, let me know the meeting place.
Do you smell?Quote:

Well I can see the clouds... here and up the Snake (Montezuma) and N Snake (A-Basin) valleys. However, no flakes all day. No accumulation.
Temp is 32F, calm, overcast
I'm sure the wind is blowing on the divide.
Of course there are tons of times where it is sunny here and dumping white out conditions 6 miles up the road at A-Basin. We all know how the weather works up here.
Summit, why you trying to rain our parade??
I'm keepin it real... that way if it sucks you were expecting it and if it dumps you are excited. I got ripped on or being optomistic last time.
Adding: there is NOTHING going on according to doppler radar.
NOAA calls for:
Loveland Pass: 2-4in thurs night, 1-3in fri, 1-3in Fri night
Berthoud Pass: 2-4, 1-2, 1-3
Vail Pass: 1-2, T, 1-3
Vail: 2-4, 1-2, T
Steamboat: T, 0, 0
Keep on driving:
Wolf Creek Pass: 7-11, 3-5, T
Silverton: 3-5, 1-3, T
Ouray: 3-5, 1-3, T
I should be up to Loveland on Saturday. I will keep an eye out for loose change on chair 1.
Saturday's looking real likely for me. I'll be slowboarding. Is anybody gonna leave 9 long enough to be at 1 @ 10?
I want to meet you. Let's make some turns...hopefully we can all mob out in a huge pack of maggots.:DQuote:

summit, it's good to see that someone is being realistic about this. we've gotten skunked the past few times storms like this have come through. About a week and a half ago, a winter storm warning predicted 12-24 inches of snow for Winter Park and the grand total overnight ended up being something like four. A-basin and loveland had similar amounts.
it's so hard to be realistic when the wx report shows snowfall amounts like the current one does. perhaps it takes a few mornings of waking up and being disappointed for reality to set in.
I'm telling ya, pikes peak backcountry is the way to go. Forecast for pikes peak area above 11000feet :
Tonight. Periods of snow. Snow accumulations of 10 to 14 inches. Lows in the teens. Northeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 45 mph.
Friday. Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to around 50 mph. Periods of snow. Additional snow accumulations of 10 to 15 inches. Highs 17 to 22.
Friday night. Periods of snow in the evening then snow showers likely after midnight. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. Lows 5 to 13. Northeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 40 mph in the evening becoming north around 10 mph after midnight.
That's 22-33 inches.
Snowsprite- Max said he just came back from austria with a wicked goggle burn. So can't be that bad.
Looks like there is a very good chance I'll be at abasin tomorrow 8" or more. If anyone is there I'll be sporting black leedom helmet and red softshell on big stix. Shoot me a pm to meet up
