I dunno, but they DO come with a bizarre rear little tank window masquerading as a normal size window. It's really funny when you actually see it in the sunlight. On the outside it looks like a big pane of glass, but when you see the frame on the inside, it's actually comically tiny in contrast to the size of the behemoth vehicle.

Haha. I know. Ain't gonna happen. But still. At least they USED to be pretty decently capable. But the new one's a REAL "WTF, GM?" moment since it has less ground clearance than probably any sedan I've ever had. I honestly don't think it could clear a coke can. I know it's because of their new independent rear suspension setup, but it's weird looking how it those rear control arms swoop so far down like to the base of the rims. And then simultaneously they lifted the rear end UP. I get stuck behind them all the time in my kid's school car line so I've had too much time to stare at their hideous rear ends, so I've come to kind of loathe them. Soccer moms sure think they're hot shit in 'em though so whatever floats their boat I guess. I mean who needs good gas mileage anyway, right?

Test drove the Grenadier the other day. Pretty legit first offering to the market. Optioned out including 2 lockers and factory metals bumpers (that come stock), out the door (off the lot?) for $80k.

First wave of North American allocations based on web-site deposits only. Sounds like at a minimum they have their first 1 or 2 production years of trucks already sold. First customer deliveries later this month or November, second wave in Jan/Feb 2024.

They have been out in the UK for over a year. Before that they were the official TDF support car for their racing team...prototypes have been on the road for years. Apparently a few of the issues (non-drive train) were ironed out last year. The motor/trans is a detuned in-line 6 from BMW, that has been around for a while.

I think your anger is misdirected. You can't blame GM for producing what consumers want. Blame those soccer moms for wanting a fold flat third row with a shitton of headroom and something that doesn't handle like a wheeled garbage bin. GM was the last hold out of the big 3 who still had a live axle. Full size SUVs are the family sedans of yesteryear. No one bought wagons, and few bought minivans. It is what it is.


Personally, I need mine to hold a bunch of stuff, and be reasonably canyon capable in the winter months. Also, the occasional fire road. It does all that with aplomb. I have a wrangler if I want to get off road rowdy and a beater truck if I need to haul shit.


What really chaps my ass right now is folks using F-150's as family haulers. I bet 90% of those I see have empty beds.

I used to think it was just UGA frat boys and Nashville wannabe cowboys that daily full size trucks for no good reason, but nope, it’s everyone. “Gotta” have a truck, the bigger the better, 4 doors, useless bed that is never used, oh and it’s only going to be used in a major metro with city streets and parking garages and make life horrible for anyone around them cause they can’t see below their window line or fit in normal parking spaces while going to Whole Foods and dropping the kids off at school.

Speaking of this, as a wagon owner, have you noticed said truck drivers getting super agro lately? It's like me being below their window line I surprise them when pulling ahead of their blind spot or something. Particularly since I got my latest wagon, I've had numerous truck drivers being complete freaking dicks to me. They've always been bad to me when I'm driving my little hatchback, but they seem to HATE my Mercedes for some reason. They love pulling the move where you have you blinker on to move a lane over to the right to exit, so they floor it to not let you in, but both my cars can actually launch pretty decently at highway speeds which REALLY sets them off. Haha. Love having a stick for those moments. Drop a couple gears, turbo spools up, buh bye!!! They attempt to floor it but you leave them in your rear view. Fun times seeing them flipping you off and flapping their arms around, screaming, as you give them a friendly wave as you leave 'em in the dust. The brodozer crowd is seriously the worst. I bet your new Audi can REALLY haul ass past 70. That crap's straight built for the Autobahn ...Unlike an F-150.

Yes, in fact, I posted a dozen or so pages back about an incident in my old allroad where a bro dozer couldn’t see me to their right and wanted to make a right hand turn from the center lane of a three lane wide side of the street, meaning we would’ve been neatly trapped underneath their door sills

I had the audacity to honk to let him know that I was in the lane next to him and then he couldn’t run me over and he proceeded to aggressively follow me into a crowded grocery store parking lot until he saw the on duty police man at the front door. Scary stuff with the kid in back.

Oh yeah. I remember that. Wild! WTF is wrong with people?! I swear, some of these agro truck drivers are the same exact kind of tools who will shoulder check you hard when they walk past you, then throw their hands up yelling "WTF, MAN?!," ready to throw down. I've had that happen a few times before too. REALLY bizarre behavior. Like these guys walk around on a hair trigger, looking for a fight. I've always been successful at de-escalation since I don't let my ego win in those situations, but I've truly never understood assholes like that. Now those same guys have access to comically large trucks bigger than ever manufactured before, giant aftermarket parts catalogs, and apparently endless amounts of cash to blow on them.

I just walked through my parking garage and did an informal survey:

On one level walking to the garage elevator I counted 7 quad cab trucks F150 or bigger. There was about 40 cars on that level I’d say.

Each one had a hitch receiver that was still painted new and each had a fancy tonneau cover to protect the air they’re undoubtedly hauling underneath.

All of them are too big for the diagonal spots the garage is striped for.

And if you surveyed those cubicle-dwelling owners, they'd all tell you how much they "NEED" said trucks for their very, VERY occasional use like that time they picked up a single 2x4 a couple years ago, or that bag of mulch last spring. Zero concept of using the right tools for the job. I like how my part time farmer brother does it. We have cows, and for hauling them to the slaughterhouse or getting hay, whatever, he has an old truck for that. Doesn't get dailied of course because lousy MPG and the ride/handling sucks because truck. For commuting to work, he uses a Camry hybrid or his Audi S8 for road trips. At the farm, we do all our off-roading in our stock Suzuki Samurai. No lifts on anything and everything is crazy capable for their intended purposes. Now, I know not everybody can have a fleet of vehicles but all his vehicles combined easily cost less than half of one of those flashy, lifted, GOTOS'd out new F-150s that never get used. Haha.

I can get eight 2X4X8 in my Golf SportWagen. I've also had ten 10' vinyl gutter sections in there. It's actually better for small loads than my wife's Ridgeline with its ridiculously short bed. The bed is usually full of crap though. Our 2 houses are 1 hour apart and she seems to think she has to move half of the crap in each house to the other on every trip. It's also adequate for dump runs since I don't want to put that stinky shit inside my car.

I may resemble that remark a bit. I'd much rather have a quiver of vehicles and just use my truck when it provided an actual benefit, but I have zero interest in wrenching on a quiver of vehicles, and I definitely couldn't buy a quiver of reliable vehicles for what I have into the F-150. As such, the ability to haul a motorcycle or sled and easily get up unmaintained roads is enough to push me into a pickup.

With five drivers at one point, I ended up with a fleet. Not really sure how it happened. Woke up; one morning and the driveway was full of shit I own. To his credit, thing #1 did buy (most) of his vehicle after graduating with his Bachelor's. We bought his share back when he had to stop driving.
Right now three drivers are living here and there are four vehicles. It's a challenge to keep them all limber, especially the Sienna especially because only one of us regularly drives any reasonable distance beyond a mile or three and I hardly go out at all. I am so tempted to sell it and pay off the Highlander. However, the Sienna is a useful vehicle, thing #3 will be home in the summer, and his college is so expensive it makes sense for us to let him use a vehicle instead of forcing him to buy his own right now. Especially if he has a summer job somewhere else. I'd love to trade the Highlander in on a new Sienna though. And I hate seeing it sit. Thing #2 drives it 60 miles round trip every Sunday. I went grocery shopping with it today.

Anybody want my 2015 q5 tdi premium plus with 64,000 miles? It drives like a new car. Couple paint nicks here and there but very clean overall. Will need a new set of tires sometime soon. Clean title, no accidents. The service history was given to me by the previous owner. (60 year old woman from Sun Valley) It had the diesel gate fix done in 2018 with warranty through mid 2024.
