Minnesota and the MISO interconnect get much more from Manitoba than from Ontario. Wab Kinew hasn't been talking much about adding sur charge to electricity.
MISO, which oversees the grid stretching from the Midwest down to Louisiana and parts of Texas, receives less than 1% of its electricity from Canadian imports and less than half of that came from Ontario, Morris said.
“For context, that amount is equivalent to approximately one power plant,” he said. “MISO manages the loss of power plants like this every day to ensure reliability across our footprint.”
“Despite the fact that Canada is charging the USA from 250% to 390% Tariffs on many of our farm products, Ontario just announced a 25% surcharge on "electricity," of all things, and your not even allowed to do that.”
And yet the US “doesn’t need energy” from Canada.
Make up your mind - is it a big deal or not? If it’s so minuscule then any tariffs or threats of it being shut off should be met with shrugs and amusement rather than all cap rage tweets.
The power grid people seem to think it won’t have a big impact.
Are the power grid people in power? Or is Trump in power? I don’t think you understand how populist politics works.
Yeah, in broad averages the overall effect on MN, MI & NY customers will be modest.
In local terms, areas like Buffalo & Rochester will feel it way more than in MN due to power contracts and distance from the source.
Michigan sez Ontario power is resold to other states. When you add in the complexities of line losses and power contracts, the effect will be felt.
Orange twat waffle boosting the steel & ALU tarriffs to 50%, for the life of me I don't see the point in what he's doing with CAN. Trade war over a little bit of fentanyl coming in through US borders? Shit is super dangerous no doubt and 'mericans love to get high so demand lives here in the states. How about we try and help people with their addictions?
WTAF
I just bought a new car ahead of tariffs for that reason.
Trump is insane, and I think his ego is the sole driver of his foreign and fomestic “policy”.
Don’t misinterpret my posts as support for his tariffs.
He got his feelings hurt when everyone laughed at him for the 51st state shit. This is the result.
such a dogebag
Tariff strategy involves numbers, and the orange guy sucks at basic math: https://leadstories.com/hoax-alert/2...0-percent.html
He got his feelings hurt when everyone laughed at him for the 51st state shit. This is the result. Tarrifs are just money but the 51st state thing pissed off 40 million Canadians big time & suddenly it got personel so that dumb ass shit probably will cost USA more grief than just the tarrifs would
It has nothing to do with Fentanyl. The president can only apply tariffs unilaterally in the case of emergence, so Trump needed an emergency, and he chose Fentanyl. The administration had considered other possible emergencies - I believe they had also considered looking for some sort of health emergency, virus or whatnot, that they could use as a pretext.
Trump has always supported tariffs going back decades. He doesn't have a clue about how international trade works, he just thinks that if the US has a trade deficit with another country then the US, then HE, is losing.
Fortunately for him, most of his supporters are ALSO terrible at basic maths.Quote:

well the tarrif strategey will RAISE the price of your new old car and in fact raise the price of everything in the USA
I bought a new tundra last fall which turned out to be an entirley arbitrary good idea
I'm hearing on the news that Canadians will have to register as aliens for periods > 1 month give tourists another reason TO go anywhere else
In case any of you who are American dont get the Elbows up reference here is the history https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qj9JGDHPhV4&t=26s
I think car prices will react like fuel prices. It won’t matter if the car has been on the lot prior to tariffs, the price will go up.

apparently Gordie Howe would fuck up every new NHL player and he only had to do it once

Hey Trackhead, maybe we can still find a way to turn the screws on your family there in Minnesota. "ALLETE, has entered an agreement to be acquired by a partnership led by Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Global Infrastructure Partners and start the process to become a private company. This transaction will not change our operations, strategy or shared purpose and values, and it is business as usual for all of us at Minnesota Power. Learn more at www.ALLETEforward.com."Our national pension fund is buying out Allete. While the OASI Trust there in the US is going to go broke in 2034 and cut back 20-25% to recipients, our CPP is sitting nice surplus currently and projected to be about $1Trillion when OASI starts making those cut backs.
Well, Ford blinked on the electricity threats.
Blinked or forced a sit down negotiation? "Speaking to reporters at Queen's Park Tuesday, Ford said Lutnick had "sent out an olive branch" for provincial and federal Canadian officials to meet in Washington to "discuss the future" in the wake of repeated tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump. They are set to meet on Thursday, Ford said — and in return, Ontario agreed to suspend its 25 per cent surcharge on exports of electricity to Michigan, New York and Minnesota."With any negotiation that we have, there's a point that both parties are heated, and the temperature needs to come down," Ford said."They understand how serious we are about the electricity and the tariffs, and rather than going back and forth and having threats to each other, we have both agreed that cooler heads prevail. We need to sit down and move this forward."This morning it was 50% on steel and aluminium now it's back to 25%.
I think he wants Canada in somekind of new defense pact, missle shield/iron dome same for Greenland.
The Arctic is the new Panama Canal. Armies are training on skis. So there's that.
Missile defense pact against who? Trump is Putin’s little bitch. This is about control. Resources and shipping. And grandstanding to his ignorant base.
It's a climate change initiative.
1) Roll back all regulations on fossil fuels. Drill baby drill. Profit.
2) Annex canada through 4D chess maneuvers.
3) Earth irreparably warms. Florida is underwater.
4) Abandon Florida. Move mar-a-lago to Newfoundland

Hard to ‘Drill Baby Drill’ when you fire all the Federal permit approvers
Only six percent of the oil produced in the US comes from public land. All that "drill baby drill" bullshit is a ruse. Oil companies aren't going to invest in drilling if the price of oil dives in a recession.
y'all seen that show Landman
Permits? We dont need no stinkin permits!Quote:
