Glad to ship out a sample of Elijah barrel proof in exchange for something fun that I don't have in my collection. Not interested in pappy stuff but down for other bourbon or rye.
Edit: I'll grab a 100ml bottle of vodka at work and fill it with the Elijah. You drank it and then refill it with something else and send it back at your convenience.

Since this thread is back, I spent a long weekend in Louisville over Thanksgivingish for a funeral. Boy, is bourbon big there, duh. The only scotch one bar had was Dewars. I laughed. Worth a trip if you're close, lots of distillery tours. Nice town.
The upside of living here is bars have great bourbon selections, and reasonable prices, the downside is it is fucking impossible to get anything limited production or allocated. Great store picks though.
If you want scotch, Irish Rover is the place.

Be careful re shipping. Have a friend whose friend tried to ship a couple of jars of peach 'shine. Ended up leaking in an airport. Result was not what he expected. Had a shipping label on it from a supplier that enriched uranium for the Navy on it. Fine ended up being $20,000 plus.

Anyone try the Stagg JR? Saw it on the shelf when I was buying my OGD 114 last week. My bottle is down to less than 1/2 full after the family got together last weekend. Left the bottle in the game room when I went to bed and I heard they had an interesting game of trival pursuit that ended with my brother needing a guide back to his room. Anyways thinking about trying something else when it's time to re-up.
I've tried it every year it's been available. I like it. It's a big bold bourbon with a pretty hot finish. I'll pour a couple of fingers with a single ice cube and wait until the ice melts to sip.Quote:

Found out my brother got me a bottle of Elmer T Lee. Its been awhile since I've had it or found it.
I've been buying the $20 bottle of Four Roses. Really like it as highball bourbon. Anyone tried the single barrel or small batch (too lazy to comb through 39 pages)?
Both are good solid sippers if you like spice in your bourbon. And they have escaped the craze given their quality.
Also worth noting the single barrel store picks can be very very good. They have 10 different mashbills, aged different amount of time, and vary quite a bit from batch to batch. Have a wonderful OBSF recipe aged nearly 12 years, 120ish proof, and was 60$. And there are a few cases at the liquor store. None of this antique collection allocation shit.
I recently had another pour of the Weller special reserve I have open, why this stuff is flying off shelves is beyond me.
What are people's recommendations for a cheaper sipping bourbon? I'm thinking $30 give or take. In the past the spot was filled by Costco's Kirkland bourbon (which tasted to me a lot like Woodford Reserve) and was like $22 for a liter. They discontinued it though and I don't like the current version as much. Even earlier than that I had Buffalo Trace as my everyday bourbon that I could drink straight or use in cocktails when people were around, but I've been drinking too much Scotch lately and now it tastes too sweet for me.
Any recommendations outside the standards?
Four Roses Small Batch is my go to daily drinker. Usually can be had for between 28 and 32 a bottle.Quote:

Rebel Yell 10 year(hard to find) or small batch(easy to find)

EW Single Barrel is my go to in that price range.
<$30 good stuff: Elijah Craig small batch, Rittenhouse rye, Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve, Eagle Rare (barely less), Sazerac 6 yo rye (barely), Crown Royal Northern Harvest rye.
Four Roses Single Barrel is stellar.
I know I mentioned it upthread but I was traveling this week and I always make a point to check out liquor stores where I go to see if there's any gems in there. I was surprised to see that the BT shortage was more widespread than I thought. Two shops told me they don't expect to get any more Eagle Rare in for a long time, at least until more barrels hit the 10 year mark. Sucks, that's a very affordable, very tasty 10 year Kentucky bourbon for not a lot of cash.
My bet is that's the next formerly easy-accessible bottle to suddenly jump in price.
