Twas Backseat Awareness Day in scotties bowl today. That is one vicious crust underneath. Great skiing on 10" of dense pow as long as you stayed centered. Put any weight on your heels or cut too hard and it's nails on a chalkboard.
Lower angled shortswing quakies skied pretty damn well a bit wind jacked on ridge. Decent bonding on small steeper test slopes.
That up there ^ my fellow Mags is even better than the recent Gaffney posts; holy f'ing shit .... LOL!!! Slipping 2 past the goalie has transformed Andrew from geek status to comedian status overnight. TH slipping 1 past the goalie has made him even more bitter that he hasn't been laid in about 5 months due to tender wife titties  and his lack of flexibility due to old age
If it gets too bad, remember to shoot yourself outside. Less messy for those who may still care.
So who dawn partrolled Superior this am? I'm on the phone with the GF and she said it looked good and that was a heck of a slide you set off.
I think that slide is what's still showing from the massive one that released with the gun the morning after the rain.
Nope...the Misses called me from the room and is giving me running commentary...the first was a point release from a ski turn. Anyway..prob. have another repeat of yesterday on the way for Fri-Sat. hopefully.
Holly is very cool! Met her yesterday when I was re-glueing skins (hellish task). She was the only person that had a clue what I was doing. Anyway I am looking forward to getting out and about with her and you. :) I still can't walk in my AT boots because my pinkie toe is jacked up, but I will still tour with heavier alpine gear, albeit more slowly. And hopefully be able to rock the dynafits in a week or so.
Ugly view from the east greeley cam this A.M.
It just could not hold on to the ice crust.
If ya'll got a FaceBonk account you can watch my video of East Bowl from yesterday here; http://www.facebook.com/#!/video/vid...97150&comments
I'm done dealing with YouTube's copyright bullshit and I'm not gonna pay to use Vimeo's premium shit (all my video's are over their allowed 500mb, 1 per week BS)... If I ever can get under that 500mb (not looking for suggestions :fmicon:),I'll post em to Vimeo.
Or I guess if you have to, you can watch it without sound on YouTube; [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA4M1UgUClk"]YouTube - East Bowl Silver Fork on a Venture Splitboard[/nomedia]
What was the name of the first track? Pretty good stuff.
It will eventually, even if this little storm didn't. They just look like a lot of big sluffs, although it is discouraging that things didn't bond better. I assume that area may have gotten wind-loaded a bit too, so there was probably more going on than just 15 inches of 10% snow laid gently upon an ice/rime crust.
The skier-triggered loose snow movement on superior yesterday was typical of what happens up there when it gets skied with new snow. Dust on steep crust=slough. At least, none of the debris piles I found at 5 pm were terribly impressive...
great pow in hidden canyon and off claytons - wind slab will slide
Good skiing out there considering we got a major rain event not too long ago. Some wind damage above 10k. One shooting crack noticed on a NE aspect above 10k. Rain crust made for fast superman like booting.
