I picked up another Gen 2 in mint condition. It came with two extra, and very rare mags I offloaded for $450. So I’m into it a $700 gun, box, and full paperwork for $250. Now if only I had something I could shoot.

Those straight-cartridge regulations still confuse the hell out of me, but that's a great rifle.
A .458 Lott would be a little heavy...And quite a bit more expensive to shoot.
While it does carry some power and is a heavier bullet, it doesn't have the velocity of some more common, out west rounds like 7mm, 308, ect. Very similar to a 45-70 which is another super common round out here. My buddy got a buck with his this year, and while it blew the heart into oblivion, the exit wound wasn't that extreme.

Dirty. I've really been digging bolt and lever guns lately. That Ruger 450 looks sweet. I don't know much about straight walls but have been looking at Henry levers in .44 or .357. And case hardened steel looks cool.
Straight cases are harder to reload. You can trap so much air with a large diameter bullet, there's a risk of bulging or bending while seating bullets if the case neck isn't chamfered just right.
Most also headspace off the extractor like a pistol, since there's no shoulder, so case oal is real important.
A good friend of mine who knows nothing about guns was just given a 1902 Winchester 1890 by her uncle, thing is a beaut, can’t wait to show her the ropes and get to handle it.

Yeah. Hunters used to shoot each other a lot more than we do now, in an age of mandatory hunter education.
Then they figured out that limiting hunter effectiveness was a way to allow the same number of hunters, with less harvest. Then it just got to be tradition....
I've only used the .375 on Kodiak, and then only because I got it cheep so it's way it's more disposable than my 1954 John Rigby.
I'd feel a little silly toting a 12lb dangerous game rifle with a barrel harmonic stabilizer in the Midwest deer woods...But it's good to have when I got a deer down and I know there's 1000lb brownies around.
The 270gr solid comes flying out at +2800fps, and it's so fucking loud it'll make the rain stop. Yeah it kicks a little, but it doesn't tear a deer up any worse than a slug.
Granted, I'm new to reloading, but have reloaded a few thousand straight walled .40 and 9mm cartridges with little to no brass prep and no adverse effects, including mag feeding and extraction, and have no idea what you mean by "trapping air".
