If my memory is correct, I believe the Niño = more upslope storms.

Enough nino/nina talk, when's the last time Colorado got skunked 2 years in a row?
Even if it's an average season, it'll be fucking amazing.
The only weather forecast I follow is El Saban.
I won't be skiing for at least another 4-6 weeks, so count on some good early season storms.
^^^ way to take one for the team!
(hopefully you heal quickly).
fuck summer, it's been summer forever. fuck alabama, fuck el nino,
Rontal- Saban controls teh weather
Steve- what happened?
Ummmm, yeah. I remember that year. I had left CO to go to WA. I think that Baker got almost 900" that year, SuCo was a drought. I think I pissed more than one friend off by calling them on my way up to the mountain to brag about the double digit snow report while they were dealing with a base that never got over 48".
Yeah, just looking at this is giving me flashbacks to last season

Looks like 01-02 was fucking terrible. Lucky for me I was in high school and going thru my park phase.
Too early to tell how the season will shape up, but just 2 or 3 storms tracking the right way can make a huge difference. Last year had so many problems: warm temps, not enough snow and when it did snow it was very convective all season. INstead of it snowing all night and into the next day, it would dump for an hour or 2 then clear up....it was such an odd year.
I'll guarantee that this year will have more snow than last year but less than 2 years ago.
Looks like this storm is tracking more northernly which makes Cameron Pass 2-for-2 so far this season. I'll be in Reno this weekend (not skiing unfortunately) which only means mystery snow will find a way to fall in my absence.
That stinks Stevie.....heal up soon

Snowin in Steamboat and Aspen I think but warm and dry here so far. I've enjoyed the warmth, but chilly temps and watching my kid play in the snow has me stoked
This storm actually looks better now than a few days ago (for Colorado, at least). Good moisture during the beginning, good energy (vorticity and jet stream) and a good wind direction for the northern half of the state (from the west or west-northwest) all equal some decent snow this afternoon and tonight. Snow started earlier than I thought in Steamboat...I hate being wrong, but if it means more snow, all good.
Also, this is a La Nada year without an El Nino or La Nina. This happens about 30% of the time, and means we have no clue what the storm track(s) will be. Here are some maps showing typical storm tracks during La Nina (northern), El Nino (southern), and La Nada (all over the place.
The maps start on slide #5: http://opensnow.com/about/snowuniver...ffindingpowder

Love the La Nada reference
