How was the road to the Goodwin Lake trailhead?
How far up did they get with that huge rock crusher and grader? Was it still deep nasty ruts after the road fork to Sheep Creek?
Well that certainly shows Cody proper as being within Special Use Permit boundaries but I'm pretty sure the FS considers the Far drift and beyond, kinda their domain.
When requested to put up signs about the danger out in the field above Cakewalk and Zero G, they said no, it's a signless area.
It may be within the boundary but I don't think it's open for any major development. I did see that they requested putting in a rope tow again but only for spring skiing.
Further pussification of the vill, that.

Road wasn’t too bad, it appeared they had done some work up to the second Y where FR 30444 splits off to the right and you continue straight. Definitely rutted beyond that point, but despite a slow go a Stock F150 and Taco made it no problem. I think a lower clearance vehicle could make it with some delicate driving.Quote:

Whole lot of assumptions by someone who isn’t on site. He has some valid points but unless I failed to catch it he doesn’t mention that the road opening is a temporary fix and a long term solution has not been determined and will be based on the geo tech findings. Typical YouTube blowhard. Not saying WyDot didn’t jack this up in many ways I would take what he is saying with a very large grain of salt.

Yeah. The bridge part was lame. It’s a switchback decrease elevation. You don’t just put a bridge that’s over fifteen degrees.
I saw another picture from today that showed heavy machinery working down below, and if this is like all the other roadway slides that I’ve seen, they compact the dirt from below, keep packing it down and build it back up and put the road back in.

You don't need 2 months of geotechnical studies for a temporary fix you know is going to be removed. You use engineering judgement and existing data. In particular you don't close a road like this one for that long because of the economic impact. Emergency roadway repairs using temporary means and on site engineering judgement is par for the course for state DOT's.
The permanent fix will require detailed studies and engineering to either rebuild the slope or reroute the road. WYDOT is being smart mobilizing drillers to get the drilling done right away. If they play their cards right they can let a contact this winter for a permanent repair to begin next summer.
By the way, HK was one of the contractors involved in the Yellowstone emergency repairs. The permanent fix for the North Entrance road washout is going to take roughly a decade.

It has some seriously substandard corners that result in larger vehicles, trucks and vehicles towing crossing into oncoming traffic and is already failing in some locations. The new temporary alignment is also located in a landslide complex which will probably result in ongoing maintenance and repairs even if brought up to standard. I mentioned 4 weeks ago that the tram opened and there was already a ski wreck in Horseshoe couloir by 930 am. I talked to the guy today while enjoying a coffee, sans waffle por moi, and got the first hand story.
He and a friend skied in and he set up a rappel as the crux was 40'. He set a rope anchor that is designed to be pulled free from the bottom once done or some shit.
He raps down sideways but it comes undone prematurely, he gets pivoted into a reverse position and skis backwards over the 40' rock band landing in a scorpion making his pelvis first to impact and it got crunched as well as some vertebrae and ribs besides a tibial plateau set of micro fractures. All while ragdoll/tomahawking a few loops.
He was on short crutches and said the knee was the worst. He now has a plate spanning his front side and was stoked how ell it's all gone.
He's a really solid skier who had a shit twist of luck. Did mention that it was his first time trying the special knot thing and that his head was unfocused due to many recent personal trials.

What's weirdest tho, no grips included(meh), but also no hangers. Just the chair, seatpad and bar.
