My favorite REM song ever by far, from the EP that came out before they even had an album. Loved them way back then:

that's the one right?
But anyways here's the reason I came to this thread tonight, it's the blues thing in her voice that I love, so cool, don't just dismiss it because it sounds like some '50s girl group thing. This is 1948 and black and white people are dancing together and she sings her ass off:

That Piano certainly reminds me of John Lennon....

And I'll second that for R.L. Burnside was great stuff.
it does sound similar. I'd bet its from the same time. its been bugging me. sounds familiar. I've had that Beck on a playlist on my phone and just randomly posted it. now I've been going thru some of that RL Burnside stuff and he's also done the Muddy Waters rollin and tumbling tune and he sounds like a major influence for Beck. Burnsides "go to jail" sounds like it could be Beck. weird. got 5 or 6 tracks for the ipod. remixes and original
Well there's a connection there: RL Burnside <->North Mississippi Allstars<->Beck. The Allstars played and recorded with both Beck and RL.
hadn't heard of NMA. sound amazing live. couldn't find a collab w Beck or RL
