What! Put it on your list to break up your commute up here. The first mile of all the trailheads is hiker heavy, but the farther you go, the fewer people you'll see. City Creek is busiest, and our favorite is Gibson Jack with Sterling Justice and Slate Mountain options. When the higher elevations start to melt out, lots of fun options between Valve House, Scout Mountain, and the various forks of Mink Creek. We can meet you there some time later in May!

The Boise foothills are so great. Endless miles of flowy single track that that exit right out into the best part of the city for food and beers.

When I lived there I would do after work laps up through there almost every night in the summer.

La grande Oregon also has some worthy trails. Beautifully made purpose built climbers and interesting downhills

In my opinion biking does not suffer the way skiing does from overcrowding. Simply put people are lazy and few want to put in the effort to ride 10-15 miles with 3-4K of vert. Fewer want to ride steep/janky/tech. Also; trails can be ridden thousands of times and never get tracked out.

As far as I’m concerned; more bikers = bigger voice for advocacy. And maybe 1/10,000 might want to help build some damn trail.

I strongly believe you are wrong for many reasons. One reason of many - it's just a matter of time before ebikes are allowed in most trail systems (hope I'm wrong) and bring a shitload of new users to the trails. And I can see them going up what people normally only go down creating a clusterfuck and generally crowding the trails because it's so little effort compared to what biking was. And biking is SOOO much more popular these days when biking was hard, the modern non-battery powered bikes brought in so many new users it's crazy. Has my experience become better because of these new users in the past 30 years? No. And you think people are lazy now???? Everything use to be a sufferfest with old steep trails and hardtails.

As for Strava is one of the worst or THE #1 worst things to happen to biking - hey let's have imaginary races all over the trails and try not to hit random people biking up while doing it.

Rant over. Or maybe just the tip, ha. Creaky was right!

Town tourism office wants visitors. County partially paid for trails. Visit Oregon even paid for an article that we read about these trails and Baker trails.

Richfield Utah trails. Also excellent builds particularly the uphills. Learned about this from an evdog and panchosdad post. Please direct hate mail to them

Standard desert terrain with ledgy square edged hits. Trails are routed exceptionally well.

Quite incredibly Sevier County paid for the system to attract bike tourism. The local high school students and locals then helped to build and maintain the trails. Trailwork is so popular that there are tryouts for the school maintenance club

IMO this system is an inspiration and will succeed. It's money well spent.

Richfield City Mountain Bike Trails accepts contributions if you want to donate to show appreciation

There is camping on-site close by trails

Dang, we drove through that area last year but the trails were closed due to fire danger. Will have to try to get back.

Hahaha the ole “get off my lawn” sentiment.

Not going to try and change your perspective. Biking gives me joy; so does comparing my times on Strava. If you don’t get joy due to the people picking up the sport; I suggest you ride earlier in the day or find a new sport. Orrrr move to the middle of no where and build your own pirate loamers.

We are the problem; but I don’t see it as a problem. Again; when comparing advocacy groups in MTB vs Hike/equestrian/hunting we have almost zero pull. Sure Evergreen is helping here in WA; but again our advocacy efforts are quite small.

What are you personally doing to help shape the course of your local trail system? Join your local dig crew? Get on the monthly meeting? If you aren’t doing things to help advocate for mitigation (knowing eMTBs and the hoards are coming) politely STFU.
