after this shitty winter I'm looking forward to a warm, slushy, closing day next Sunday and wouldn't you know it.....but models are hinting at it being colder and maybe even some snow. That would be fitting.
in other news: HOLY WINDY BATMAN
^yeah 40 houses without power in frisco this morning.
I'm actually hitting the Vail golf course tomorrow instead of skiing in April..what a fucked up winter
General weather question...in a typical year, I've heard the melting snowpack fuels the early summer t storms...since the snowpack is so thin this year, are we likely to see sewer intense t storms until later in monsoon season?
^ I don't think so. I've seen low-snow years turn to wet summers before. Typically there are plenty of other sources of moisture to feed spring/summer thunderstorms around here.
^^
No. I study this shit all the time at CU and what I've learned is that most of the moisture from our melting snowpack evaporates and falls over the midwest US or somewhere else far from CO. The only thing it may do is keep temperatures a bit cooler at ground level..
but god I do hope it rains alot this summer
With rain comes lightning.... just sayin
With dry sunny days come cigarette butts thrown out of windows by fat tourists.
Which start fires in easily accessed areas for firefighters to douse the flames before it gets out of hand. Lightning however, can start fires in remote locations that can only be reached easily by helicopters, if the weather permits.
Either way, something is gonna burn.
cooler weather this weekend but the "storm" is going to cut off and drift south again. I've never seen a pattern like this one last this long. Outside of a few storms in Feb, it's been one big cut off low all season with storms missing us north and south. Hoping this storm is way slow and Sat and Sun end up being sunny and warm.
I'd be happy if the storm sped up (which has happened all of...zero? times this season), trails are getting a bit dusty.
Kind of surprised, didn't think SWE could be a negative number, but I guess according to this graph it is?
haha, it's negative because all the snow is melted AND the soil around the reader drained away?
as one last kick in the balls for this winter, after 8 weeks of sun and warm weather, closing weekend will be cold(er) and snowless for the northern mtns while places south and east will see some snow. ULLR can DIAGF
Sure it wouldn't be most fitting if it rained higher than mid Vail on the last day :)
Total kick in the balls is right. It was sunny for about a month straight and decides to be rainy and cloudy on the last weekend?
Drinking and watching concerts, I can handle closing weekend, despite the weather.
is this thing cutting off or will we have some descent accumulations in Summit/Eagle?
looks like wolf creek could get pounded, if they re-open for the weekend I'm there!
first big t-storm of the year in Denver rolling in along with a tornado
Lightning here in Eagle-Vail, hopefully without too much rain. Bring on the fire, save whats left of the snow.
Rained in vail village for 10 minutes or so. I say let it rain, if that's what it takes to break a drought.
