Great looking bike Tex!
A friend of mine goes to a track in Utah (Miller) every couple of months to ride with the Buell Club and I got this email from him a while back. Thought you'd like the stoke. Sounds like a pretty cool place. I am a street bike JONG, but someday I will have one.
As you all know, we went back to Utah on the 6th for a track day. That's where that cool picture came from. There's a little more to it though.
Last time out, in May, the Buell factory guys fed us some lunch & sat down to eat with us & asked us all kinds of stuff about their bikes. How were we to know they were building a new one?
NOW they have a prototype and promised anyone who signed up & made the trip would get a chance to try it out. We had to go. 5 guys (with bikes) + a couple spouses & a couple kids made the trek from Denver. Scott,(also from Apopka), made some dumb arrangement to cover for a coworker, couldn't go.
Here's our camp in the parking lot. No garage this time. I guess you don't need one if it's not gonna' snow.

This is the track. It's big by any standard. 4.5 miles w/ 23 turns, & 50' wide everywhere, and smoooooth. Front straight is 3500' and supposedly good for 200 mph.(more on that). The red line indicates my route after Rob fixed my suspension settings. Managed to draw nasty looks from track marshal.

Yup, I went off-roading 100 mph on my road bike. That was later.
What we drove 9 hours for, is the new ride.
Mr.Buell got a new toy. There's 2 haulers now.

There was a sign-up sheet to test ride the prototype bike. It's called simply, 1125R. We saw 3 in the pits, & were pretty sure we had a good shot at one.Time came to open the doors and let the thrashing start. This blew me away.

Do ya' think they brought enough? I love this company. Close-ups of the super secret 1125R. BTW, this bike has more horseis than Janet's car.

THIS is what we all made the drive for. When they said you could take it for a test ride....they meant A TEST RIDE ! My sessions went a lot like this.

Rob....Trying to find top speed. Nothing conclusive. I saw 146, but don't think that's all she had. Ran out of road.

Mike brought a new Suzuki, so wasn't too impressed w/ the Buell. I don't understand, so he lets me take it out for a few laps. I hit 174 and just got scared & let off. That's not all the Gixxer had either. This thing is an evil trick on men, sent from hell. Mike.. Touching on about 180.

I rode my own bike a little too. The Firebolt .

In between riding, there was some good sight seeing for a bikerhead. Somebody else busted out a prototype. All the way from Italy, this is a Bimota. no heavy aluminum crap on this. All the black pieces you can see are carbon fiber, the rest is titanium and magnesium. The owner wasn't very generous w/ this one.

This Honda got loaded up early. That's what you get for showing off how you can ride w/ your wheels up.Yep, the seat fell off.

OUCH!! What happens when you hit the gas too hard on corner exit. New Buell w/ highside remodel. Rider carried off in ambulance.

Some more eye candy. Mr. Miller left some of his Fords sittin' around. This is one.

One of my best friends has stunt road his gixxer out there a couple of times for shows. And he calls me crazy for skiing and ice climbing :rolleyes2
what model triumph is that and what mods did you do to it?
Last years racebike. And racing at Daytona last spring.
Yellow before I painted it blue.
Utard maggots can thank me for the copious amounts of snow we're now sure to get for the rest of the season. I just pulled the trigger on one of these:

so murphy's law dictates we'll have a snowy spring.
BTW, So fucking stoked right now! Anyone ridden yet?
08 klx 450--cant wait to fire it up, no pics but its green, pretty standard dirt bike gonna get some tapers for it before the season starts--hell yeah ride on
2006 Bonneville Black -
Engine mods - Air Injection Removed, Airbox removed, exhaust ceramic coated, rejet...
Cosmetic Mods - Chopped front fender, powdercoated most of the shiny parts, low cafe bars, longer shocks (+20mm), rear fender removed, indicators replaced with mini-cat's eye indicators.
yeah, the powdercoating makes it look real nice. Much better than the chrome. How's it ride with the cafe style bars? Still comfortable?

Just brought the new bike home today. Fuck yeah! Can't wait for sunny weather. I know, I know, I should be praying for snow like everyone else, but I want to ride dammit.:D Anyway I have a question for the knowledgeable moto-mags out there.
According to the owner's manual the break-in period for the bike is under 8300rpm for the first 600 miles, then under 9900rpm until 1000 miles. When I left the dealer they told me to keep it under 4000rpm for the first 200 miles! Then they said I could start creeping up the rpm, but not to take it over 8000 for the first 1200 miles!?!? Then I talked to a guy who's been riding motorcycles and working at shops his whole life, including working as a service manager. He said not to baby the bike during the break-in. He said to keep it at low rpm for only the first 100-150 miles, then to ride it at varying rpm, including high rpm, for the rest of the time. Making sure not to stay at high rpm for long periods of time.
So obviously I'm a little confused. Anyone else want to add their input to this?
I have always been of the school of varying your RPMs while breaking in an engine. That goes for anything. Go high, don't hold it, go low, don't hold it, go medium, don't hold. The variation is the key to keep the engine from developing soft spots at a different rate. My bike had five miles when I got it, and it is going just fine after about 7000 miles. Needs to get the oil changed, but there isn't even a dipstick for it. There is a little window you have to remove a piece of chrome to see. The new bikes don't use oil. Period. Beat that, Harley Davidson :p
The bars changed it from an all day rider to a 2-3 hour rider. Handling improved quite a bit (cafe bars + longer rear shocks = money)... but if I'm going for a longer ride it only takes about 15 minutes to swap the stock bars back on... (Had the stock bars powder coated black too...just in case)
i'm not sure what's the deal with everyone needing spring to ride?
this is from last night(i don't have any good sled riding hills close by)!
upload failed. my bad.
your dog looks pissed off
He actually loves that mini bike.
I know it’s a small pic but he has a tennis ball in his mouth. It’s covered in snow, so it’s hard to see. He will chase me until his pads bleed if I let him.
Really interesting front end:

Picked this up last Friday. The Santa Cruz is going to be getting significantly less time.
