Aspen got fixed a few days ago and has been running around with a bucket on her head and sporting a slick new pair of pajamas to keep her from licking her stitches. She seems to accept everything we throw at her without much complaint. She gets it. We removed the pajamas to look at the stitches and she was pumped to get into a new pair of clean pajamas. WTF?
Merry meowmas!

Cats love Christmas! Miss Mayhem was impossible to photograph as she was always in motion or hiding in a bag, under paper, in the tree, etc. She loves present time.
First snow here in a month. The outdoor kitty doesn’t seem to care.

FYI - FB post by a friend re her cat Gandalf and his adverse reaction to pain meds:
I haven't been on Facebook for a while, so apologies if I have missed messages and posts from some of you. [emoji172] It was nice taking a little social media break.
I thought I would share what happened to Gandalf. It's a long post, but Adam is working Christmas Eve & Christmas this year so it's a little quiet. [emoji301]
Mid October, we had an emergency to WSU. You all know Gandalf means the world to me and I try to give him the best care possible. This past spring I noticed he was slowing down a little so I researched ways to help him. There is a newer FDA approved drug for cats called Solensia. (Librela for dogs). Side effects listed:
- pain at the injection site, itchy skin, scab/sore where injected.
At first, it seemed to work, I thought I noticed a little pep in his step, but we were also doing acupuncture by one of the best integrated medicine vets at WSU, so it was hard to say if it was the actual drug, or his treatments.
After 3 monthly injections Gandalf got an unrelated ear infection and we skipped Solensia until he was better. As he improved, I requested another injection in hopes it would help with pain management.
What happened next was truly scary and horrible. I reached out to our incredible WSU vet and brought him in right away. He had excessive thirst and seemed confused. He started walking in circles and would lay down in the corner and stare at the wall. He stopped purring and talking (he doesn't meow, he makes little sounds & trills). He fell over numerous times and would urinate right where he fell. His back legs gave out and he couldn't stand. He started trembling and twitching, had extreme ataxia, lethargy and behavioral changes.
I started to prepare myself for euthanasia and what was best for him. It totally gutted me.
When we got to WSU, he was highly anemic and his liver and kidney values were off the chart. He stayed in ICU with IV fluids and steroids. There was no explanation on what was happening, we were just hoping he would pull through.
Gandalf, being the fighter he is, pulled out another kitty miracle.
During many trips to WSU and sitting in the waiting room, I found several pet forums regarding Solensia and adverse side effects. Pet owners telling the same story of this happening to their cats (and dogs) from this drug. Some owners reported their pet died right after an injection, while others chose euthanasia, not knowing what was happening. Television news reports in Canada & the East Coast are warning pet owners and a class action lawsuit has been started It's truly sad and horrible, but I am one of the lucky ones. Gandalf pulled through and is 90% back to what he was before the injections.
Just recently the FDA issued warnings to vets about these side effects for Librela & Solensia. Some pets have no problems with it, but there are some that do. It's a gamble.
Thousands of dollars in vet bills for a drug that Zoetis will make billions with.
[emoji319] Merry Christmas! I am truly grateful to be able to spend it with the most amazing little creature that walked this earth.
Box arrived with return address of KQ Klaus.
Without even opening it, GG went nutz. Shoving the box from one end of the house to the other, rolling on top of the box, purring loudly, generally acting like an addict desperately in need of a fix.
