He does need bigger pots though. I start in 5 g and move to 20g soft pots. They did not do as good the year I used 20g to start. They are still movable in the fall in case we get a ton of rain at that size. I’ve always been scared to top them. But I produce way more then I can go through until next year

if you disagree with that ok, but my experience has been its better to have a healthy plant thats not perfectly trained than it is to try to maximize yield and fuck it all up, you can always do better next time

You don't have to chop off 90% of the plant at once either, but once you get the concept of giving the plant no option but to grow big fat buds, it's easier. The plant's happy to comply! Like you say, "It's a weed."

nothing is absolute with growing, people swore by flushing for years and many still do, but ask a botanist or farmer and they will laugh in your face, give all internet gospel a healthy dose of skepticism when it comes to cannabis
I doubt you need to flush too. But I've let PPMs get too high in a 'dro gro and ruined buds. Nasty and bitter, hung in your throat. Vinyl chloride monomer, or burnt teflon, would have been more enjoyable.
Moreover, I've used some nute scheds where plants barely show any fade after 2 weeks of water, and some where the plants look dead before a 2 week flush was complete. [more slow release nitrogen component in the chemistry vs less?]
How much weight is a person actually losing with 2 weeks straight water before chop anyway? ...
My last pull with 600w HPS* filled 48 quart widemouth mason jars way fuller than you want for cure, and 2 gallon ice cream buckets with little rock buds size of my thumb and smaller. About a half a brown paper grocery bag full of sugar leaf. No idea how much it weighs.
*last 4/9 weeks were 1kw

As an outdoor hobby grower, I'm trying to maximize quality not quantity. Medical weed is
cheap and potent here.
I used to pinch twice to get 4 main stems. This year I'm trying out some auto- flower varieties.
Low seed viability seems to be the issue with these. If I get a few more sprouts I'll try mainlining one.
Just not sure how much root mass you get with a 12 week grow cycle plant.
It prob won't set you back. Every time you snip a mainlined plant, you take above-ground mass and leave root mass [aka growth energy]. The plant will grow faster to catch up, or rebalance. The more tops get pinched, the more excess root mass and the more energy the plant puts into growing to rebalance.Quote:

Seems like you'd want autos to get as big as they can before they start setting buds.
Edit: Higher feed rates demand higher root O2. One way to ensure this, especially with multifeed, is to add H2O2 [hydrogen peroxide] to the feed or rez. Roots need O2. Nominally higher O2 in the root zone is hella beneficial, and the prime reason hydro & coco yields more than dirt all else being equal.
As long as you don't overdo it, organic growers can benefit from h2o2 as well, since one unstable H2O2 molecule breaks down to 1 H2O + 1 O2 molecule 24-48hrs after it's introduced into a sufficient molar mass of a new solvent [like water].
Maybe 1/2 cup of $1/qt Walmart 3% hydrogen peroxide per gallon of pure water. Too light to fizz your precious mycorrizae, but enough to raise the ambient O2 in your root zone over time.

As Forty points out, there's a bunch of ways to skin the cannabis cat.
You have six plants - try manifolding one, pinch and screen one, lollypop one, leave one to nature (and string to keep limbs from breaking) etc. See what provides the greatest yield/effort ratio for you.

I took off everything above the third nodes and will see where we go from there. Those are already 5 gallon pots and are mobile in the wagons for now to move around the yard for full sun all day. I don’t think I’ll go too crazy but may experiment more aggressively with a couple plants. I’m content to be a hobby grower and also de-stigmatize Marijuana with my teens by showing them the natural process for the healing of the Nation. I do play them music and talk to them so that must help.

Just finished my 5th cycle of Grandpa’s Mouth Odor, the original GMO. Its Grand Daddy Purp crossed with Sour D, then crossed again with Sour D, then crossed with Girl Scout Cookies, then crossed back to Sour D.
So it’s a grand daddy purp x sour d x2 x GSC x sour D
Oh and all organic 63 day cycle under 1600 watts of LED.
