Having been to the neighborhood, yeah I’d be pissed at that shit too. Unfortunately Sandy won’t do a damn thing from what I’ve seen. A street over from us there was an old rv just rusting out in the driveway with shit just everywhere. The lady’s daughter was living in it with her bf for a few years. Cops, code enforcement, everybody was called that could be to get this hellhole cleaned up and get the couple to move. Similar looking property to what you got there.

The chic had to fucking overdose in the front lawn for Sandy to finally cite the house owner to move the rv and all their accumulated shit out. Driving home one day and there it was, her body under a white sheet and what looked like the whole Sandy police force.

Any guesses to what the yard looks like now a year or so later? Two abandoned trucks with windshields shot out, more shit strewn about than ever before.
Lady is known on Nextdoor as “the crackhouse”.

I got the neighbor with the dead trucks/ sleds/ ATV's/ motorcycle/ just left everywhere at random which I can put up with

it was the barking dog & dog shit not picked up I objected to but they seem to have a handle on dog issues

Next door neighbor plowed some snow yesterday and pushed a pile up into my yard. I don’t really care, but the edge of the pile clips into my driveway/road-to-my-house by a few feet, and that makes it not my favorite pile of snow ever. I got the snowblower out and carved those few feet off as cleanly and conspicuously as I could. Maybe he’ll get the hint? They’ve been reasonable neighbors otherwise, so far.

A far cry from my next door neighbors at my old house, particularly when it comes to snow removal.

I used to watch that show sometimes but now I cannot bear its sadness. Anyway, your post reminded me of a hoarder story that I sort of witnessed and had long forgotten:

For years a carpenter collected building materials from the dump, job sites, and clients in order to build an addition to his shack, or a second dwelling. I'm talking about decades. There were neat stacks of framing lumber, shingles, cement blocks, windows, doors - everything. He would even browse the beach at low tide looking for a prize. I once watched his truck get seized by King Neptune after he got too close to the waves while scavenging a 2x4.

Anyway, after nearly 20 years of harvesting castoffs he had all the material to frame, sheath, and roof his free dream home. And just after he had submitted his first plans to the building department he got a new "city" neighbor who promptly had the sheriff serve him with papers to clear his lot, claiming it was an eyesore that diminished the value of her newly acquired property. In the end the guy had to pay a haulage firm a tidy sum to clear his lot of all the material in order to comply with the order. Irony.

Look at zzz shedding those hillbilly roots. :D

My neighbor two doors down was the same as TS’s. He wasn’t deranged, there wasn’t anything wrong with him, he was just lazy. He was a whiz with Chevys and small engines and an interesting guy to chat with. I didn’t love the mess but he was a decent neighbor otherwise and it was preferable to dealing with an HOA. We ended up buying the house and I can say for sure that vermin were an issue. Fortunately, my kids were never attacked. :D

In my old neighborhood, I shared a driveway and a garage with my next door neighbor. Odd setup, for sure. The driveway was wide enough for two vehicles, and the garage had a wall in the middle with separate doors.

It was a middle-aged lady. Nurse. She lived with her early 20’s daughter who was a single mom, and her two sons who were probably in middle school. Pretty quiet group. Never heard much from them. Sometimes she kept a pretty early schedule, and one summer I think she had a new boyfriend where she spent the night pretty frequently, but kept her alarm clock on and set to her 4:30am wake up time. Summer nights meant open windows, and her alarm clock blaring at 4:30am for hours wasn’t the best, but she adjusted when I talked to her about it next time I ran into her and it only happened once or twice after that.

We live where it snows a lot in our yards. Hundreds of inches/year. No mountains, but damn we get the snow. Sharing a driveway and coming from the type of neighborhood where we would snowblow and shovel each other’s drives, I had a really hard time shoveling out my driveway and not shoveling these ladies’ cars out, too. So I did. Good deeds make you feel good and I needed the exercise. The setup was such that a snowblower or plow didn’t really get you far. All hand shoveling.

The first winter I shoveled them out religiously. Every time it snowed. Scraped it down. When the plow went through in the morning I’d clear their vehicles out first so they could go where they needed and then cleaned the whole thing up, the driveway and the street parking in front of their house. After the first few times, I was struck by how quiet they were about it. This was pretty hard work, often an hour plus of sweating/freezing while moving feet of snow. I would see them and they wouldn’t mention it, barely offering a hello.

The next winter I had a couple interactions with them while shoveling out their cars. They (the older lady or her daughter) would walk out to their car while I’m sweating to clear them out and barely acknowledge my presence while jumping into their car to drive away to wherever they needed to go. I’d offer a cheerful hello to silence or a nod. It was weird and off putting. Halfway through the winter, I got a scowl from the daughter while she walked past me and my shovel to get into her car, and I quit. Done. Fuck that. Fuck them. I’m not some goddamn creeper. I’m a successful guy with a family and friends and hobbies and what-have-you. They can shovel their own goddamned driveway.

From that point on, I made it a point to leave their side of the driveway untouched. I would obsessively and passive aggressively carve a perfectly straight line down the middle and clear my side of the driveway down to pavement. I’d take pains to not even put a footprint on their side of the driveway. After a month or so it was a pretty stark distinction between the two. I have pictures somewhere…. It was fantastic. IAS/Yeti was even impressed with the depths of my passive aggression. This was all fine and gave me no small amount of satisfaction, until a couple things happened:

1. The neighbor got a new boyfriend. He had a big black 3/4 ton ram pickup, crew cab and full bed, with a plow and shitty tires. I’d often come home to him having tried to clear out the driveway. No doubt they imagined that I benefitted from this arrangement, but it really just meant that I had icy piles in front of my garage and pathway to my front porch. An early spring storm and his ham-handed efforts resulted in a 6 foot pile of ice in front of my garage that kept me out of it for almost a month.

2. The next season, we got a big snowstorm. Businesses closed early. Everybody freaked out in an area that takes pride in weathering huge snowstorms. I got home from work fully expecting to not be able to get into my driveway. And I couldn’t….but I also got home to find my neighbor’s boyfriend and her middle-school sons busily shoveling out their driveway………..into my driveway. I politely asked “What the FUCK are you doing?” And they said well, it’s downhill, so they’re just shoveling all the way through. So I say cool, I’ll go grab my shovel and help. Give me a minute. I go inside, put on my jacket and gloves and hat, grab my shovel, and go outside. We shovel for a minute, and the guy decides he wants to try to push the snow for a minute and he tells me to move my car, which is parked on the street in front of my house. I oblige.

He’s probably the worst hack I’ve ever seen with a nice truck and a snowplow, and I’ve seen a few. His stupid truck with stupid tires can’t even drive up the hill in front of the house, so he has to go around and attack it downhill, and when he does he gets stuck less than a block away. So he calls the middle school kids over to help him get unstuck. I ask him if he wants me to pull him out (AWD station wagon with snow tires) and he scoffs and says no chance. Cool. I’ll keep on a-shovelin’.

He gets unstuck. Rams at the snow a couple times. Drives around the block again……..and everybody disappears. In the meantime, we had just then finished clearing out their side of the driveway…into my side of the driveway. I go knock on the door and tell the kids we aren’t done yet, let’s do some shoveling. Not much I can really do other than be an ass, though. They make some noise about grabbing their stuff and never appear. The boyfriend gets his truck unstuck and circles back around. Starts to walk inside. I’ve rarely been so frustrated and disheartened at the state of humanity. I yell at him “What the actual FUCK, dude??” And he just shrugs and walks inside.

So I clear the snow and, well, what do you do? Some people just suck. Sometimes they’re your neighbors. I never got any sweet revenge. But those people are losers and they still live in that shitty house, so that will have to be enough.

Couple years ago, but still own the house.

My immediately adjacent neighbour is on the redneck hoarder spectrum. Front yard washing machine tub for a fire pit. It’s been accompanied by a bedroom set for the past 3mo - bed frame, mattress with box, and bureau. Seasonally an old boat in the drive, various bit and pieces of detritus. This is the front yard, the back garden has gone totally wild, with remnants of fridge-turned-smoker, a couple of old barbecues, dismantled fish pond, and other various junk. No dogs for awhile so no more stink from the back garden this past year.
The old Italian guy who lived there since the 70’s passed a couple years ago, his youngest son and kids took on the house and it’s gone downhill ever since. Nice enough folk - son’s a pretty good welder, and always willing to engage and lend a hand - but had pickled himself a bit over the years. Not many teeth left.
Small town. There’s a good neighbour bylaw that covers problem yards and such, but enforcement is a slow escalation - which is fine by me. We’ve call them in on their dogs from time-to-time, but the hounds have gone this past year as a couple of the kids have grown and moved out.
Cops would never get called on account of a yard here. No time to deal with petty local drama given all the highway and major project influx issues. Again, fine by me.

I'd gladly take a redneck hoarder over the tight ass neighbor next door who now has a restraining order against him after he shoved my wife, in our yard. Seems odd for a retired landscape architect but he only bothers her when I'm not around. But his yard and house are as neat and steriile as you could possibly want.

re: do I smell bacon? funily enough when i told the neighbor the dog shit smelled bad she said it was cuz she fed the dog bacon but made no plan to clean it up or control the dog, I eventualy lost my shit at them and her dad ( 70+ yr old hard working albertan ) moved the dog pen and picked up the shit, i got a feeling he has been fixing her probelms for years.

I look out at broken cars in the front yard/ motorcycle/ a couple of sno machines/ a few ATV's/ broken PU truck with the hoods up for months at a time/ stuff left everywhere in general

the perpetualy half broken/ noisy Subaru was hit by the Catipillar rock truck during the recent police incidnt and will never bother me again, the yard doesnt look much different before or after the incident

The neighbors put on a show today. They had the FBI and ATF there as well as town cops and county detectives. They carried out loads of evidence and a couple of long guns and cuffed and stuffed two people that live there, the baby daddy and grandpa. These guys had a battering ram to get in (that they didn't have to use) and they played it pretty much like a tv show with the scurrying around in the bushes and running around with some cool weapons out.

High entertainment for sure.

Not the organizer or anything, just one of the parents trying to grease their kids way in to USC (same as it ever was). Anyway, the overwhelming number of feds that surrounded his place and did a no knock entry would make you think we had fucking El Chapo Escobar barricaded instead of some VC wine maker🤦🤣 Totally absurd but
