Yeah, the stock now includes veneers, which I think is why they’re light enough that I’d tour on them. I had planned on getting this ski custom, but the only thing I would have changed would probably be to add carbon and get the old gpo graphic stained in the veneer. So I figured the difference with the carbon was negligible, the ski would be a little cheaper and I could have it now instead of waiting until next season. And top-sheets don’t matter much to me.

They’re damp for what they are, just not on3p damp.

Had fun on them too today at the same place. Funny first day write up, you do know Tabke and Ayers won runs on them. Haven't skied them a bunch because of the coverage this season. They have been missed. Uber confidence inspiring skis if you can hang.

MVP seems like a good choice for extreme versatility, like the Rx. I love my Rx though.. The predictability and versatility, as well as fun of Rx shape is insane. Insane in the f’n membrane.

The MVP is extremely versatile. At my towering 5’6.75’’ I can ski it centered or get all over the shovels / tips and they’ll perform and support either way, which I think is why I’ve settled on long playful skis as my favorite type. They ski up to 10-12’’ pretty well and floated my 200 lb load-ass.

I’ve been really, really pleased with how they handle firm. Not ice, you know the real ice we deal with on the EC, they don’t do that. But I’ve had fun with them on groomers with man-made granular, spring conditions etc. well enough that I found no need to keep my 184 Monsters which just weren’t as fun- so much harder to balance in the air, pop off stuff, etc. I can rally the 193 MVP almost as hard.

If you forced me to keep 1 pair of skis out of my 10, the 193 MVP what I would keep, even on the EC. It’s the ski I’ve used the most this season, albeit it’s been a good one.

So compared to the MAP + carbon layups of the past how would that compare to Enduro/carbon/veneer? I preferred stock layup (no carbon) in the old layups for inbounds skiing.

Debating on adding carbon or just sticking with Enduro + ambrosia maple veneer for the custom order (182 Q) Mainly inbounds skiing with shifts but may insert for race bindings in the future. IIR carbon saves maybe 0.3lbs?

With shifts and a mainly inbounds plan, I’m thinking skip the carbon. Depends on what you like. Carbon add some snap, but maybe compromised dampness? I had a great time skiing 192 GPOs in bounds with a map/carbon and no veneer. Never felt like I needed a burlier ski at 170. Worth noting that I sold the GPO and kept Billy goats, but that was more about the pow performance and the RES tip. For trees and variable snow, the GPO was excellent in that layup.

Two different skis, but my 182 Q's (Enduro/Carbon/Veneer) feel much more damp than my 182 GPOs (MAP/Carbon/Nylon Top).

People are saying that in identical builds, the Q wants to hang in the fall line longer than the Q. I agree with this (to the extent that I can compare two different layups), but obviously I can't say how much this has to do with the ski's design vs. the veneer.

I'll bet if I had left the carbon out of the Qs, I'd be happy, but as it is, they definitely don't feel nervous or chattery. They're considerably more damped feeling than the GPOs.

I certainly wouldn't want to lose any of the Q's quickness in tight spaces - especially since dampness isn't an issue with the Q's. They're nearly as solid feeling as the Billy Goats I just sold. Solid enough for this weenie.

No experience with carbon and Veneer together, but I'm definitely not a fan of carbon/Enduro/nylon topsheet for resort on my old Protests or my brother's BCs. Too harsh. For a light ski, I don't think the carbon would be worth the small decrease in weight.

enduro core is fairly light as is. I’m more interested in heavy core feedback at this point. Enduro/veneer does well everywhere. Interested to hear comparisons with the heavy core

That is my experience as well. With the new(er) layup options I wasn't sure if veneer and carbon together serves much of a purpose. Perhaps the carbon gives some pop or rebound for people who like that.

Summer's going to be long.

Heading out to LCC with the family next weekend and tempted to bring my 188 Qs as my one ski. Usually bring a 98ish ski also but with bringing kids and wife and all gear it's tough to bring both. Did this last year w lightweight GPO and it worked fine but it also snowed a bunch. Forecast so far looks like pure spring conditions. Am I gonna hate life on the Q all weekend with no real fresh snow?

I have Enduro + Ambrosia on my 188 Q and in limited use so far is a good resort layup

Any available 15% codes? Been waiting to pick up protests. I’m just ordering a stock build so with the veneers not being free I’m wondering if I should just wait for a Black Friday deal or something? The stock protest has veneer now.

I found heavy/carbon/veneer #4 to be very damp but also harsh. The ski is very powerfull. I would probably skip the carbon if I could choose now.

Dem Q's dig the corn and soft groomers, honestly closer to a DD than just about anything designed for the fresher days. But, when it comes to anything overly icey hard they will remind you they're meant for the soft. Personally I wouldn't be worried at all as they are my "travel" ski, but I haven't checked the UT forecast

Yeah, I'm sure based on how they have been so far they will be managable. Ideallly a mid 100s ski makes a better travel stick if I was being nitpicky , but these will do
