I had to replace a 1/4" bit in process of doing 48 holes for inserts (two pairs of skis, two sets of bindings with 8 screws per binding). Each pair of skis was metal.
Mounted some Fischer's with metal last year (Hannibal's) and they were a lot tougher than any metal skis I've encountered before. Not sure what the heck Fischer is using but makes me feel good about the mount.Quote:

New bits are coming from Tognar. Hopefully the cutting oil will help too.
Not my first, but easily the smoothest. Gets easier every time. Have learned to measure lots, but ultimately, to trust my eye.

I wouldn't use cutting oil. How's well is the glue gonna bind if you use a water based glue??
With a good quality bit, you'd have to be using it an awful lot before it dulls out. I bought my 4.1 stepped bit from Binding Freedom about 5 yrs ago, and it's seen about 10 mounts and still flies through the skis. Ski metal is just some fancy aluminum.
If you use a Home Depot bit I can see how.

Cross posting my original thread to get insights on if I'm stupid to try this remount on my GPO's and which would be better. More background here if you want the full story.
Current mount: STH at 312BSL, -1 from dimple
Proposed Mount: Guardian (small) 316BSL
Option 1: Reuse rear pair of STH toe holes, drilling slightly wider. 42 vs. 40mm center. Front toe holes are pretty close to the old and the forward most on the heel is very tight.
Option 2: Reuse front pair of STH toe holes. These are direct match and gain me a bit of clearance on the other set of toe holes vs. the first option. The rear holes look great.
FWIW, I'm leaning towards option #2 as the smarter mount, but ideally I wanted to move the mount forward a hair. Would Option #1 be stupid?

Ok you myofsymfers, I mounted the easiest ski binding combo possible. Dynafit stokes with dynafit ft-12. The problem is that when I pressure the edge of the ski with my Cochise boots, the toes points open up.
I adjusted the heel screw using five nickels as a spacer. Don't tell me there's ice in my toe holes. I've had these bindings since 2007 and sent them back to dynafit for a warranty repair last year and they sent me new toe pieces. They worked fine with my tlt5 boots prior to removal from my older skis. What's wrong?
