Another nice afternoon for skiing. No precip. Cold out, but snow not really crusty.
Groomers were smoove. Otherwise, some surprisingly big suncups here and there.

Family life kept me home today. Please share that it was not worth skiing at the resort today. Too many people. Heavy mashed potatoes. Tracked and firm by 10AM.
I did see the KW stake at 11" and then settling to 9", and then looking like maybe another inch over night. I'm sure there is some decent snow to find BC. Might try to get my kid out to tour this spring if this is a real reset.
A fair bit of nice snow is available up high. I was really surprised how if felt like winter on the upper mtn. Below sibo it really started to change to warm snow but was a nice day out there.
Just wish granite opened I don’t know what the hold up was but it didn’t look like they were even trying over there.
I hit DSR back in 5/3 as it was my last free Saturday before I started my summer gig slinging produce.
It was overcast all day and the snow was funky, but it was fun nonetheless.
The upper mountain and backside were like my own private Idaho, as it was largely myself and two fellow coaches from NS schussing about.
Ended the day with beers and pie in the lodge.
What a gem of a spot.
Cinco de Mayo found me and the same couple I skied with at DSR hitting up Sunrise Bowl.
We had planned on Mt Rose/Tamarack, but scrapped that due to the overnight freeze and high winds up there.
It was windy up on SRB, too, but we scored some sweet corn on both “Wonka’s Wave” and in “Oompa Loompa Bowl” (iykyk).
While I have frequented this zone for years, it was only the second time my buddy Felipe had skied it and it was the first non-resort skiing for his lady Margo. She doesn’t have BC gear, so she boot-packed the entire day like a champ/beast.
First run she was screaming and giggling like a jovial banshee. Made my day that she had so much fun. Snow was insanely good and infinitely better than what we three had skied at DSR two days earlier.
Sonora opened, but looking like winter conditions. Friday is a window for me, but I'm not digging the forecast of a 35 high and clouds rolling in. Next week starts off with snow, so maybe some life left beyond.
The forum seems to be working so ......Send it. You never know when you won't be able to again.
It's looking like my last day of the lift served skiing this Saturday at PTOV... I'm the guy in the Hawaian print shirt.
Sweet conditions on Freel today

Skied Y today. Conditions were fantastic. Crux was crossing creak 30 yds from car. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...df9cacfcb4.jpg
Ya that creek is often the crux. Nice pic
Thanks. That is kid 2. Kid 1 couldn't make it.
It's a bit of a slog (elevation was kicking my ass) getting up to Y and then the down once beyond the couloir was not great. A lot of sidehill. Not sure if we took the right line, but didn't seem like many options. We went up lookers left from the road a bit higher than deadmans and ended down at deadmans. Not sure how quick I'd go back to this line.
A young woman came up to me at the bottom of Y and said she really likes the way I ski...so I got that going for me [emoji23]

test</p>
Well this will probably be my last post in the Tahoe thread. Last Friday we had planned on ebiking up Tioga before the road opened but the fire on 395 changed our plans to a local tradition I have paddling across Echo lakes to ski in the Desolation.

Are the forums coming back to life?
Had a blast last weekend at PTOV...crowds were navigable and skiing was enjoyable.
Maybe a roundtop session when Woods lake parking lot opens?
That's my post.
Well shit. I just now turned 60. And I’m sitting at 199 days for the season. What to do.
I’m gonna party like it’s the 4th of July.

Dude, I just turned 58 and I just cracked 90 days! 17 of those days were in the stellar May we’ve had in Mammoth.

Sitting in the ch 2 lot at Mammoth right now thinking about what to do now after skiing from 7:30-10:30 this morning. 199 days is very impressive. Good work!

We arrive tomorrow night with bikes and skis.
Any chance Stump Alley will still be running next week? Any snow left over there?

Guess that aftermarket knee is working just fine, welcome to the back nineQuote:

That looks like a "no". Just flipped to Closed for a the Season. Oh well. I just really prefer parking there.
Maybe they might get some more MTB open then. Still only have Shotgun basically. Was kind of hoping for Paper Route on down.

'67 was a great year[emoji16] I think I cracked 9 days. Actually I have no idea how many as I don't keep track...never have...but it was minimal. The quality was exceptional though.
I celebrated my birthday-day on Wednesday by skiing the chute from just to the skiers left of the Gazex up on Mt Rose Hwy (I call the area Lower Tamarack).
Snow was thick, smearable softserve.
Hit up Tahoe Meadows Interpretive Loop on Saturday late afternoon. Conditions were cuppy, but soft and smearable.
Chickadee Ridge still goes top-to-bottom and there are still some decent lines along the Tamarack Ridge.
Castle Peak still has some strips on the frontside and while the gate is unlocked and open, the 4x4 road up to Castle Pass is still covered in snow.
The northern west side of CP (which you see when driving east on 80 down around Kingvale) still has decent coverage as does Basin Peak.
Biked Connector and Corral on Monday. I thought they were in great shape. Someone on our climbed called it "sandy" and it was in expected places. But over all rode great.

A couple of mountain lion sightings--West end of Donner Lake, and Summit Canyon trail. More concerning--the deer mice in my house.
Those mountain lions make excellent mousers. Grab one and set it loose in your home.
Anyone get some of that June pow today?
Yeah, it was a solid little dusting mid day. See you guys in the KT line up tomorrow?
On another note - carnage on the lake with this storm. Hearing dozens of boats may have shaken loose from buoys and/or been submerged.
Now that the forum is back, can someone please remind me how to post photos? We got Tallac Cross and rad shit on Leavitt in mint conditions and it never actually happened bc TGR doesn't have photo evidence!
Photos seem to be posting ok via Tapatalk. I use the iPhone app mostly because I like it but it’s still garbling photos so I switch to Tapatalk for that
Alex Hoeft, who is a reporter for Moonshine Ink, shared a byline this morning in the NYT, on a story about the drownings at Tahoe. She's written some good stories in MI. Gift article https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/24/u...mid=url-shareI I can't say that the high winds were unexpected though. The forecast for that day forecast bad weather and anyone around here knows that spring and summer thunderstorms can bring sudden high winds.
Was in town the other day and saw that Syd’s bagels and coffee is done. Heard that the owner was in debt and noped out on life. Owner of Christy Hill is taking over the spot but unclear on what will be the replacement
<p>
I'm still scratching my head at those who are acting like this wind / storm event was a surprise. I have multiple friends who pulled their boats off the water a full week in advance after seeing the extended forecast.</p>
I was talking to a “boat guy” at the bridgetender the other day and he did exactly that. I’m more surprised anybody would want to be on the lake when it was kinda shitty weather even before things got really bad. Apparently , it was a birthday outing for one of the grandmoms. Not clear if they were weekenders or had a summer place there
Yeah, my buddy has a wake boat in Utah and a potential storm was predicted. He pulled his boat...like anyone with a clue would do. Storm came and destroyed the dock and multiple boats. He said he was amazed at how many people were shocked that their boats were destroyed. Thankfully nobody died, but truly people are clueless with understanding the power of mother nature. I think bc skiers/snowboarders and other outdoors sport enthusiasts are just more aware.
More of a Sprocket Rocket question but gonna toss it out here.
I'm going to be near Placerville for a few days in late July while my kid is in in a white water rafting guide camp.
I usually head to Meyers for a day to MTB near Corral Trail.
Should I try a different zone this year. I really enjoy Connector and Corral but are the trails near Sierra at Tahoe or Christmas Valley worth a day?
My drive to Corral takes about an hour and ten minutes which is the max I want to drive. So even if you have a spot not I. Tahoe, but close to Placerville, I'd be stoked to check it out.
I already bike around the ASRA down by the river.

Cronin Ranch and Rattlesnake Bar have some nice cruisy trails. You could bike alongside the river while he floats the gorge.
Trails at Sly Park are just up the road. Nothing epic but enough fun single track to be entertaining for a morning.
