Are you fucking serious with this? Pretty much all mountain bikers would say that it’s awesome because it’s an adrenaline rush and as an added perk you get in great shape, which also makes you better / stronger on the downhill. And frankly the core strength from riding has made me a much better skier.
Slow and butt hurt isn’t a great look
Wow, are we still worrying about eMTB's fitting in with non-assisted mountain bikes on this thread?
eMTBs are clearly different... you win. It is exactly like riding a motorcycle. Hell, a Harley handles better on the trail than a bloated eMTB. I was thinking of putting a throttle on mine the other day. Unleashing all of that 3/4 hp without having to pedal is going to be awesome.
Ouch!!
Not really. Try harder. I could get butt hurt if you slammed me personally, prob not, but I’m just pointing out people’s ignorance concerning emtb’s. It’s fun watching the butt hurt from people commenting that don’t really know what they’re talking about. You for example
I get the adrenaline rush. Been there, done that, liked it. Any exercise is great, for sure. Guess my snark was from just spending a week watching some real pros and thinking how fit they were.

So what you’re saying is, you have no objective criteria for your negative opinion even after a test ride. You have a biased emotional subjective take on the concept that has little to do with the bike itself. We get it, you don’t like the idea of eMTB, just because. I think we should move on now.

I love ebikes for replacing the use of a car. Just stay off the trails developed and designed for non-motorized multiuse or mountain bike specific areas. The insistence that they are just a new kind of bicycle is just dumb.
I agree with you and you have made your point.
Anything else starts to become............... Retarrrrrted
We have a few eBikes at work for getting to meetings and such. I can just push the button and go 18 mph without moving my legs. First time I rode one I didn't bring a helmet, figured I would be taking it easy like usual. Almost lost it going into a corner because I was going so much faster than usual.
I totally want one.
This ePower revolution is a wave. Fun to watch history being made.

Sweet!! A little longer to stretch out in , Thule box on the roof and a north shore rack out back, then it’s off to “who’s sleeping in parking lots “ thread
“Moving ahead in a responsible and sustainable fashion”
Pretty interesting video.
From interviews I've heard/read with the EWS guys, I think they're taking a pretty mature view of it. It's there, it's not going away, it's a rapidly growing reality, might as well delve into it on the front end and see where it goes.
Curious that the vid seems to focus more on the technical climbing than the descending.
Ya it seems like they have a lot more questions than answers . Seems the same on the forums. So many variables between motors. Pros seemed pretty excited about it. I hadn’t considered the uphill play aspect quite that much until the last month or so. Saw vid from an enduro race in the UK. They had an emtb category and the emtb had one extra stage. Extra stage was an uphill but it wasn’t steep at all, even had a couple downs, and they were ripping up hill for over 10 minutes. Good footage. Looked like a blast
Uphill exposure
Just spent several hours in the E-bike rabbit hole.
Boom! Sub-40lb 160mm Travel bike. This is as tempted as I've ever been.

Quite the looker. Great lines on their new bikes. Cant wait to hear some reviews on those motors
Eglance - looking down to see if someone is on an ebike as they rip by.
Pretty soon you won’t be able tell.
Put a “frame bag” over the front triangle and tell people it’s your touring bike.

Bikepacking is so hip right now I think that's what I would call it.
"Produce an EMTB that would convince the people sitting on the fence, or perhaps are not yet convinced that electric power is necessary on the trails."
I'm fairly positive electric power isn't necessary on the trails.
I don’t know why anyone would want it any lighter. Most of our dh bikes are pretty much that weight and we move them around fine with more travel. There’s even talk amongst the seasoned emtb riders that it might be too light. After they’ve adjusted to the heavier bikes they’re liking the planted feel. Just talk but I think it’s definitely close to perfect . That lapierre can be trimmed of a couple pounds with some $ and not have lighter tires if needed. Because the motor is part of the battery tube, the cranks spin without friction like a normal bike , that bike can be a 30lb carbon enduro non emtb
Pretty funny how quick the anti emtb crowd change their tune after a tiny spin, young and old)
Totally agree. I have a 180 mm haibike, 53 lbs, and it's the best bike i ever had. I see no reason to be lighter.

Sure, but go ride a DH bike on a "normal" trail. They feel like fucking pigs.
Based on my time on e-bikes, they're more or less fine on flowier, jumpier trails where maneuverability isn't really a factor. But on slower speed, more technical trails, the weight was fairly apparent. They didn't like to change directions very quickly, and it was harder to push them around in tight spots and sharp corners. Not saying that it was impossible or anything. But the extra weight was definitely noticeable, and mostly in a bad way. Anyone saying that they're glad the extra weight is there is just an apologist. This same discussion has been had with respect to regular bikes too - a small minority likes to talk about how extra weight is somehow better. And pretty much everyone ignores them.
I think you guys are missing the mark. Why buy a pretend mountain bike instead of just embracing the fact that this toy is a light motorcycle?
I'll take a 75-100 pound bike with an ungoverned throttle and the power equivalent of, say, a 100-150cc motor.
Shoehorning this technology into a pretend bicycle is the wrong approach and precludes you from having something much more fun.
