Did not know a little bit of Dakota is in BS. It seems a bit weird maybe but trails and their routing and creation are personal enough I like to think a bit of you, S and B are all in that beautiful bit of trail winding down Whistler!

yeah, looking down she was always head down and all black on her back, sniffing and sharking around...hahaha, we spent a lot of time on that while Sarah was pregnant with Wyatt, finished it up just before he was born!
30+ hours into these pups today!
First hit is about a 15ft gap

Second is 21ft lip to lip!!

They are primo; the first rock roll sets the speed and once you are in its all groovy!!
Couple other shots, the 6 of us moved a shit ton of dirt plus a few other randos who stopped and shoved a bit of dirt. Thanks for showing up @bourbonisgood!

Those are big gaps! Way above my pay grade.
First time doing some dirt work here in SC and it's just delightful [emoji16] There's no freakin' rocks! The soil is very interesting. It's powdery but sets up like cement. Definitely need moisture to build with it. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c6d662318d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2442466aeb.jpg
To a break from drywalling to build a quick side hit on one of the roads in our little trail network yesterday.

Looks fun, can send as big or small as you want

Side hits are so fun! Riding new trails I'm always bummed when I see them too late or not enough speed.
My kid and friend did some berm building and tuning yesterday.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1a17c5c829.jpg

Super stoked on this next feature.
6-8 foot wall to sharkfin; gap feature to another massive berm about 7-8 foot tall as a catch on the other side. Should be a really fun feature that requires a bike position change mid gap.
Met one of the original builders from the late 90s today. Trail hasn’t been touched since 2000!

Dude thanks; big ass effort by all the crew. Thefortrees is calling it the biggest hand built feature east of the cascades and we’ll take it!

Holy shit! That's hand-built!? Amazing! What an effort [emoji106]
That's awesome. I Street bike park in SLC has some comparable features that are 100% hand-built.
Woot, about one day out from wrapping up the catch!! Multiple bike trains went down today and she rips!!

Wow. That's incredible! All dug by hand from the ground next to the trail? No roots??
Been working all fall on drainage issues and adding in some fun berms in critical corners and making some boulders into takeoffs and overall more fun across some of our beat to frig Maine trails. The clay (which sits under 6-10" of root map, oi vey) is proving to be challenging to work with. Seems very sensitive to moisture and if it gets wet, it takes forever to dry (a cluster of the best trails are on a shaded NE-facing wooded hillside). Any tips other than making sure everything drains super easy?
Clay is a shitshow. See XLR8 at Fort Rock. That trail is unrideable for days/weeks after a rain which was pretty much all year ty.
Speaking of which...folks need to step up to save these trails. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6039fdc582.jpg
It’s a system; we dig a shovel depth down and take roots with it. This helps us shape the general form and not lose our mind picking out roots.
Once we heel pack the feature the face gets 3-6” of “good dirt”. We get that by skimming our pit and additional 2-4” down. Here in Spokane it’s a sandy mixture that hardens really well — almost like concrete with a bit of moisture.
That said there are a few small micro roots that we rake out on the feature then tamp it down with a McLeod.
Clay (proper clay) sucks.. seems you’d have to shovel dry-ish.

Little bit of maintenance today. Need more moisture to get more done, but when we do working with this soil will be really fun.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...288bbafd35.jpg
Got some work done while waiting for snow. Success as it started snowing as I left!

Another new bridge, this one using found redwood logs and milled decking. Scraped away the outer rotted layer and the rest of the wood was good, should hold up for years.

This is a green trail that’s supposed to be multidirectional but it’s pretty steep in places. The trail used to go to the left and straight through the drainage. The bench cut above required a lot of digging and fill and the soil is mostly rock. It needs more work.

One of the issues is the rock sticking out to the left. The tread is still too narrow to the outside of it but it will be a cool lip to launch on the downhill.

Yah that build of yours looks fantastic.
Shar and I have been reworking a old trail she put in 13 years ago that's now super popular with runners, walkers too. It was primarily dh one-way but she made it so low angle that it's become two way biking and will be used quite a bit more as a popular formerly pirate trail becomes sanctioned.
Didn't think we'd get around to finishing it will late spring but ski season has been so poor we're 2/3rds ( and mostly ) done before New Years

Looks like a fun one! Agreed; we had no intent of finishing this before “winter” set in!
We are reviving an old rock/flow trail called blast off. It started as a cut through trail to flow onto another DH track called Stalingrab. Rumor has it - it hasn’t been dug on since ~2000. Shit doesn’t even look the same; all the features are so much bigger yet safer as the landings are huge swaths vs sniper points. Hubapolooza is going to race it this year as part of their DH course, stoked to get like 5000 tires down it after a solid winter of settling in!

Lee, trails look great but I hope you cannot build anymore this winter! I have a trip to Nelson planned 1st week of Feb and I'm getting nervous!
That rebuild is looking awesome! I should really just drive over there and go for a ride since our winter is so terrible.
It took me a bit to recognize it, but I remember racing on blast off a few times, many years ago. That trail will be fantastic with the rebuild!
Things are looking good this weekend/early next week. Should be warm enough to burn off the freeze/thaw!
