Wrong and wrong.
Chevy's drive like shit. Can't feel the road, loose caboose. Fords are generally tight in steering and tighter suspension. Fact.
And Chevy HD's aren't real HD's. IFS in an HD is like tits on a bull. Baby's First Diesel is what they're known around here.
Carry on.
The 4.6 doesn't have the plug issues that my 5.4 does. I had the pre-cylinder shutoff 5.3 Vortec in a previous truck, that engine was far better than the POS 5.4 in my F150. I think I like almost everything better about the Ford besides that though. But maybe more stuff changed by the time the late 00's rolled around... I'd wait for the diesel F150 :D
I thought that was a Romeo vs. Windsor engine plant thing, i.e., Windsor 5.4L and 4.6L engines had piston slap and plug blowout issues, but the Romeo 4.6L and 5.4L had neither problem.
In December I dropped a cylinder on my 1998 F150 w/ Romeo 4.6L @ 160,000 miles. I drove that truck way too hard, especially in its final months moving our household with overloads and foot to the floor on numerous trips over the pass. I bought it 12 years ago with 100K miles on it, no idea how the prior owners drove it. It was a good truck and served me well. No big problems but several small things, mostly electric/electronic (coil packs, MAP sensor, alternator). I sold it with the dropped cylinder for $1000 before full diagnosis so I dunno whether it was a top end or bottom end issue. Stepped up to a new Tundra.
I want a 3/4 ton truck with a Chevy body and motor, ford axles and suspension and a toyota interior.
I think there is debate about which plant made better engines for specific applications, but I was under the impression the broken plug falling into the block is a pure design flaw with the 5.4, no matter which plant it came from. Mine is also clackety and burns about a quart every 3000 miles, it's sounded like that and burned like that since I got it 130k ago (when it had 67k).
4.6L (in F150s and Mustangs) had some spark plug spitting issues, tho not as much as 5.4L
Oh okay. My 4.6L had some lifter rattle when I pushed it.
Mine just clanks away at idle and when I'm on the gas. I try to keep it under 2k rpm most of the time. It gets real thirsty when I go above.
Bronco with a 302

If anyone sees a clean Dodge 2500 w/ 12 valve Cummins and MT for <10k, I'm in the market. Preferably in MT/ID/WY.
I like that Bronco
I've always wanted a rig with cab lights like that. Pretty sweet!
If I can bring myself to buy another "old" rig, a bronco with a softopper will be my next DD. That one would fit the bill nicely!
I put the issue (what used 4WD truck to buy) to my mechanic, and from a reliability perspective he was emphatic about not buying a Ford (dropped plugs, unnecessarily complicated electronics, planned obsolescence on fundamental parts), thought Chevys and Dodges were roughly on par, with Toyotas the clear winner. I just can't see that Toyota's reliability justifies the heavy (50-70% on comparable vehicles) price premium.

My overrated Tundra
icemang, skidog, et al., here's your Scout. Entry price is a little steep.
