Greenhorn Newbie Dares Join Forum
O.K. I'm a greenhorn newbie from Deep East Texas that wants to join in the fun.
I've been skiing since '69, boarding since '86. I've skied or ridden (usually both) 93 lift served areas and a reasonable amount of back country, East and West. After retiring from a law practice, I taught boarding for 6 seasons and was a staff trainer during the last two. This will be the sixth year in a row that I've wintered at a ski resort town. My biggest year was over 1,500,000 vert. ft.; biggest day was over 70,000; biggest cliff jump, just 20 feet; biggest cornice, around 35 feet.
I also climb (traverse of McKinley with Ray Genet, Polish Direct on Aconcagua with Allen Steck, French Ridge of Huntington with Michael Covington, solo on Robson, etc.), white water kayak and windsurf (although I broke my neck during Hurricane Bob in '91, so maybe I'm not too good).
My true lifelong avocation (since age 10), hobby and occassional source of income is playing trumpet in every setting from Baroque Oratorios to way outside small combo jazz.
This year I'll be in Jackson Hole for a little more than three months. I've skied and boarded there on three shorter trips and have earned turns out of Teton Pass but this will the first year for a full season and I hope to get some tips on this forum and maybe see some of you on the hill.
