Been on a Hawaii 5-O binge and liking it a lot. Started out slow and really picked up second season.
Love to see the people variety of the islands and I reminisce a little, having watched Jack Lord filming on the original series in Honolulu a long ass time ago. The new cast on this redo is good.
Good movie (documentary) but it seemed to me they were poor kids with no place to go but the ramp growing up. It did not seem like they were assholes either they had some valid points on mainstream sk8ing dicking them over at comps ect. They sure did mis manage their money.Quote:

They took everything from Season 1 and upped the ante (nekkid women, copious snorting of controlled substances, completely absurdist new characters, and a plot that really doesn't make much sense). The fact that the show was produced in part by the Australian government is just plain amazing.
seriously dookey -- I'm not sure which, it's that kind of multi-layered polarizing. it's a provocative movie that picks at quite a few issues, and the pivotal event of the movie as well as the setting (skiing, and an avalanche event that may or may not be understood by the characters in the movie) are likely to be seen differently by people here who spend time in mtns in winter. if you read the discussion threads at imdb, you'll see a whole lot of what I'm talking about on polarization. when I watched it I thought it was picking on one main issue, but after thinking about it being made from maybe a different perspective, it seemed to have a lot of thorny points. I won't say more or I'll spoil it.
The Rover. Awesome, gritty, violent but super well done.

Netflix has nothing new or good anymore (or I've seen it). Did they just give up on getting movies and shows streaming and start focusing more on their own content? Does Prime get any stuff before they do? I took a look, and it doesn't really look like it.

I like that they have a decent amount of stand-up comedy. I 'm looking forward to diving into some of that.
I will say the the movie selection is s bit sparse - not exactly like the old days perusing the stacks at the local Blockbuster. It seems like every time they announce what they will be removing and what they will be adding, it gets worse. At least there is new content though - would be even worse if there wasn't.
Just finished Lillyhammer. Dark, funny, absurd, violent; quite excellent.

Best thing about Bloodlines is how it deals with avoidance/projection of guilt in interpersonal situations. Is Danny just an unrepentant fuckup who deserves whatever bad happens to him, since he's so "mean" to his family? A lot of what that show presents applies to the stupid-ass feuds created on TGR for the sake of venting one's own weakness-derived insecurities (hi kidwoo, hi rideit), and it's a good metaphor for the Social Justice Warrior/eternal victim perspective people like to use when they push their antipathy onto someone else.

If you're into indie rap and the esoteric Los Angeles music scene, then Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton: This Is Stones Throw Records is a pretty good docu hi-liting the rise/fall/rise of the venerable indie lable and head honcho DJ Peanut Butterwolf. Nice insight into the mind of Madlib and a tribute segment to J. Dilla.
I watched a documentary the other day about winemaking that was excellent. A year in Burgandy. Nice, in depth look at the wine growing and making industry in probably the most famous region in the world, following the cycle of all four seasons.

I'm no fan of ESPN but this past weekend I binged out on the "30 for 30" documentaries. Two of the best were "Of Miracles and Men" and "Slaying the Badger", but I also liked "This is What They Want"...I had no idea Jimmy Connors was such a dick.
I need to check out Daredevil this weekend. Seems to be getting good reviews so far.
