Classic homeboy. Good to see it getting hit. That one run looked chewed up!
Yeah Boulevard had a lot of tracks in it and skied heavy but I hadn't been down it in so long so it was good to get in there. Getting a good West Shore KW sidecountry day can be tricky to time it right and I lucked out yesterday.
The guy who went down the cliff line in the middle I think had a bad time of it from what I heard.
Weird to see Main untracked

I hear Mashed took care of that error. I was saying the same thing to him. Over all, Main is not as co distantly steep as the other lines but it's low hanging fruit and plenty fun.
Another from Mashed (cause I can seem to still be able post pics)

So painful to post anything in this forum these days, sure this site is gonna go tits up pretty soon. Kinda rare and awesome to get 6 powder days in a row in Tahoe late march into early April, some highlights over those days, on April 5th I skied corn and powder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCtXgedOJPw
Coverage looks great in West Shore...but then you see Sushi Roll being really spicy. Man, its been YEARS since I've been out there!
Does Jake's still have good coverage?
I haven't been there in years

Tragic news today.

Skinned up the south side on Sunday. Once past the cabins the willows are starting to appear. Wasn't too bad but not going to last long down low.

Mashedpotatoes, yeah our group hit Boulevard when it had just a couple of tracks that day. While getting the skins out we watched that guy on his solo line in your pic, pretty entertaining complete with sound effects.

Is that pic "Jakes"?
And yeah, another unfortunate accident at OV. It's always eerie when competent skiers crash and die. Interesting to know the details just for education purposes. We can guess at a few scenarios and probably one would be correct.
Wow is the forum bonkers?!?!Tried to quote the SFGate article and it threw Ottime's post in? wtf?
Anyway, Super Sad news about the past Dartmouth racer who died at Palisades. 30 point FIS skier. This woman could ski. Huge wake up call when someone better than most has a fatal accident.
I was in Sac at the State Capitol Saturday but I'm guessing things were icy--after wet snow and then clear? On a happier note--Placer County planning on adding dedicated bus lanes on 89, 267, and 28, so we should have relief of weekend traffic jams soon. (By soon I mean 2041. Construction to start in 9 years.)https://epaper.sierrasun.com/html5/r...a-da9138ad31aa
For those of you who mostly stick to just this thread- if the forum officially shits the bed I’ll be starting a new one at powfix.com and hopefully can port over the old data. We have a Facebook group called The Powder Zone just so everyone can keep in touch during the process.
This isn’t happening yet, and I’d rather not deal with it and hope TGR gets their shit together, but just a heads up.
I'm still upset that powdermag.com isn't working anymore.
Re: Dartmouth skier. A few of us actually met her briefly getting ready to ride (MTB) TNT in Orinda this past fall. She was one of 3 gals wearing Dartmouth ski team windbreakers who stopped where we did at the top. We played the Vermont-to-SF name game a bit bc she is from Waitsfield. She and her friends then proceeded to completely outride all of us locals. We only saw them again at all bc they were stopping briefly to make sure they caught all the 10' gap jumps and ladder drops on the way down, while we old folks just slowly glide down the main line. Absolutely awesome athlete. Can't imagine what happened to her to cause the fatal crash.
Yeah, highly unlikely icy conditions had anything to do with the accident when we're talking an ec'er and former racer, but possibly.
I was in that area right before the last snow and it was sharky af. Zones like that with fresh snow are scary. Going as straight as possible is safer than turning sometimes. That was pretty much the m.o. in Taos after a snowfall.
Definitely sad to see this news.I used to ski Ahh chute pretty regularly when I lived in Tahoe, definitely a fun part of the mountain. It is eye opening to see a tragedy like this, it does highlight just how fine the line can be, even in terrain that is skied regularly. Things can go wrong in a big way. Vibes to the community, family and friends.
Glad the site is working...
*Last Ski Weekends*
are rapidly approaching [emoji20]
Where "U" all gonna be at???
We hope to be at KW for Sunday 20th. Would be our first day there this season (embarrassed).
Mt.Rose has cheap Friday tix after noon, and open until 6. Worth checking out. Very cool [emoji41]
Open late Saturdays too. But no specials. Well, apart from available parking [emoji3]
Prolly be there both days.
I have so much stoke etc from this season that I can't post because of the forum bugs - it took me like three tries on two devices to even be able to post this - let alone trying to upload media and get it to work properly,
TGR: you have a gem of a community that you're letting fade because you can't lift a finger to fix your shit. woof
Looks like there is a current window of functionality now. Post what stoke you can !
Still can't get pix to take...
I was thinking similar conditions to last few days for weekend. But Cin just pointed out it's getting fair bit colder, with chilly overnights. Refrozen ruts and chunks?
Or sugar/corn/sugar?
Can't be any worse than the deep, knee breaking mashed potatoes on Friday
[emoji49]
I'm going skiing tomorrow. Can't wait. Been a few weeks and some time on south Florida.
Hey, ya Palisdaes skiers, send me a PM after you renew to help get some maggots on snow this winter. I would say less than five minutes of your time, but not with the way this forum is shutting the bed. And if you are new to skiing up north, send me a PM before you buy and the group could help you save almost enough for an on hill lunch.
Hoping for the right combo of cold freeze, April sun and east wind for a fast morning and not too sloppy afternoon. Put the yellow wax on
Ott - I tagged you on Facebook - sorry if that wasn’t cool, but people were asking about the ikon group buy and all of that with the forum not being reliable. Not sure if you saw that or not.
$25 tix at DSR with a pass from another mtn.
Ski free on 4/27 if you wear a costume.
Moms ski free on 5/11.
The snow was decent there last Friday…
Ought to be good spring skiing. pretty hard freeze Thursday night, and did not get soupy Friday. Will be cold again overnight, but warming much quicker. Sunday looks warmer. Know your aspects and follow the sun. Also think about where the reflected energy goes. Some snow picks up reflections and will be meltier. Corn is ripe. Go harvest some.
A note on freezing... I've always looked at the low temp, but a few weeks ago we had 42 degree low, and hard frozen snow. Yes the sky was clear, but I usually give that -5 degrees credit at most. So, 42-5 = 37 degrees and there should have been no freeze. So I did some reading, and the dew point is also important to look at. Dew point was below freezing. I've also been looking at wet bulb. Since snow is wet, the wet bulb is likely more important than the dry bulb to determine refreeze - wet snow should "see" the wet bulb temperature. Added note that official temperature is ~5 feet above the ground, so the temperature next to the snow can be colder, especially on a still night. To summarize, looking at temperature and cloud status is not enough and I didn't find a good answer, just some hints I don't have enough experience with.
Ghettos was excellent yesterday. 5 high T laps. While the top, right under the ridge never really softened, the corn was perfect from just below down to the lift. Not sticky at all.
I like how they run Sherwood until they close High T and then open Scott. The groomers off Scott were perfectly corned and untouched at 2pm for some sweet hot laps before hitting the bumps down Scott Chute that were also primed.
I was planning on KW but when I woke up and checked winds and temperature I decided to head to a hill with less north facing.
Word was OV side was still all firm at noon. Not sure if that was true, but ended up never getting over there to check. Thinking West Face might have been good late in the day.

nice last day at the Wood.
Chair 6 softened up early, chair 10 not till like 1pm but it was good after that. Cheers to a pretty decent season!
I am thinking AM Friday.
DSR Saturday and then Rally for Rocker.
Rose Sunday.
Yeah, good plan, but...
Fuck is it gonna be cold for *spring*! [emoji15]
I saw Sugarbowl is gonna be open with $99 tix Friday to Sunday.
Palisades has a $99 a day 3pak. Are they still open until 4?
>> Mt.Rose open Thurs to Sun this week. (All Mt.Rose season passes are valid)
Has $79 half day tix from noon until 6pm for *Fri 4/25*
?? Hold on now! ?? $60 day tix for Tahoe area pass holders! Show pass at ticket window
This Sunday is looking tasty. My kid and I were considering a day trip, but then they went and split open their chin yesterday. Originally I was hoping for corn, and then just maybe sun and a fresh inch or two topper, but its looking like its trending toward minor powder day. Lets keep going in this direction.
group price for pass buy will go up in May. PM or email soon for best pricing. Kids price is still low until then.
doc.lungren at google mail cause this place is like a beached whale
NOAA is estimating upwards of 8 inches between Friday and Saturday up on Donner Summit..

^^^ That's awesome!
Just had a great spring afternoon at Mt.Rose. They even had the Chutes open, which I wasn't expecting. Lovely easy-skiing steeps.
Not really looking forward to tomorrow's temp drop. Hope for some dust on crust/loud pow?
Or that they groom everything...
I was going to say - forum working for two days straight - but we still have issues/
