I was pretty surprised we got first tracks down Scotty's at 2:30. I thought any minute we would be blown away by 60,000 skiers charging out of Snowbird.

Conditions were certainly tolerable. As others have reported some new snow surface instabilities. Moves quickly once it's moving.

Today myself and another skier from a party of 4 I met at the top of no name triggered 2 soft slabs. I skied down the East facing trees above scotties and released a 15' wide 16" deep soft slab that ran down into the flats behind me. I didn't notice triggering it I just saw it after I got into the flats and looked back up at the the ridge for the rest of the group to come down. The second skier ski cut the slope and triggered a 60' wide 16" deep slab that broke around him and carried him a little ways into some trees. He did a good job digging into the bed surface and preventing injuries from going into the trees with speed. He did not get buried and ended up being ok. After that we skied lower angle trees eventually merging into scotty's to the bottom. I forgot my camera unfortunately so no pics, but I might head up there tomorrow and get some pics. Just wanted to pass that along. On a side note, turning conditions on N aspects up high is still excellent despite the greenhousing today. We made our descent around 2:40 this afternoon.

Hey Lionelhutz or anyone else in the know-
I'm heading out for my annual SLC trip from 3-21 through 3-30. Any chance for cooler weather and snow for those dates? I've been checking the usual weather spots and so far it's looking kind of bleak. I'm still pretty stoked though!

bad timing this year friend, i'm in the know and i know all the resorts will be shut down for the year by next weekend. its going to hit 100 in the mountains tomorrow, i blame global warming and glenn beck. either plan on rafting the mighty jordan river or reschedule your trip for colorado.

The damn dawn patrolers tracked up argenta and I had to go all the way up to Kessler
and ski somethin good whhhaahhhh:wink: pulled up as you where leavin.
east facin skied a bit better I thought as west had a stouter crust under new snow.
Other than managable sluffing no real instabilities noted. Nice little refresher hope the positive storm cycle pattern continues.

Skied E and SE, 10,000 ft. and below. Stiff winds up high, loading west aspects. The first 500 feet off the ridgeline was scoured ice and wind pillows. Below that it was 4 inches of soft 'n creamy. Perfect in late morning. A bit manky in the afternoon down low.

Where is this? It looks like it has pretty good kiting potential.

Corral Mountain, south of Provo Peak. Accessed from Hobble Creek Canyon.

Found some really reactive soft slabs in lower Days running in the new snow. Not a huge deal, but they were running fairly fast and could take you into a tree, etc. if you weren't paying attention.

So if one was able to get free lift tickets and free lodging at powder mtn, would it be worth it to drive from the seattle area overnight and ride at powder mtn from mon-fri for free?

Looks like it is supposed to snow quite a bit there in the next couple days too.... I think I'm about to pull the trigger

Free, sure! It's pretty low angle. but it's fun. I'd bring AT gear and just hike Lighting Ridge and then hit the bus terrain.

I didn't realize you're a boarder. I've never snowboarded Pow Mow, it has some heinously flat spots. I'd at least bring poles. It also has alot of southernly exposures.

UDOT is planning on closing Little Cottonwood Canyon tonight at midnight.
Avalanche control on the North side starting at 7:00.
The plan is to have the road open by 8-8:30.

i'm so fucking mad none of my lazy ass friends would wake up to ski superior this morning. rocky point was a fun consolation prize though.

mid elevation n facing still still creamy last night. most other aspects had a suncrust. a little sluffing on the steeper terrain.

N facing slopes were totally wind loaded creamy for sure but the steeper stuff was pretty sketchy. We saw some in stability so skied a W slope. NW would have been best...

up for a quick gulp of air - back to the pow!
