I'm just glad I got to experience it back in the 90's, great memories. Cardboard derby, park in that tiny pullout on HWY 6, cross it, put on skis and head down to the lift, camping in the lots because hardly anyone did it. Zero traffic on the pass, like ever.

I did a couple of hitch hiking trips from Steamboat with Buddies to go ski A-Basin during mud season. We would start climbing at 7-8 and sit on top of Shit For Brains waiting for it to often up. Once conditions were right we'd drop in and after the couloir we'd traverse across from the bottom of the apron to the upper mountain chairs and session the bowl and the East Wall for the rest of the day and then end up at the Beach for afternoon apres shenanigans.Quote:

Greg clenched his fists in anger as he handed over his hard-earned money, feeling as though he was being ripped off by the corporate greed that had taken hold of the ski industry.
Once on the mountain, Greg found himself constantly dodging out-of-control beginners and entitled tourists who had no regard for the unwritten rules of the slopes. The once peaceful and serene environment had been replaced by chaos and noise, leaving Greg feeling as though he had lost the one place where he could truly escape and find solace.
As he made his way down the mountain, frustration continued to build within Greg, his anger bubbling to the surface like an erupting volcano. He let out a primal scream of rage, startling those around him as he tore through the snow with a ferocity that could only come from a man pushed to his breaking point.
In that moment, Greg made a decision. He would no longer stand idly by and watch as the mountains he loved were overrun by crowds and commercialism. He would take a stand and fight for the preservation of the true essence of skiing – the freedom, the thrill, the peace that came from conquering nature's most challenging terrain.
With a newfound sense of purpose, Greg set out to rally like-minded individuals who shared his passion for the mountains and the sport of skiing. Together, they would reclaim the slopes from the crowds, the insane prices, and the chaos that had taken hold of their beloved Front Range ski resorts.
And so, armed with determination and a fierce sense of rebellion, Greg and his band of fellow skiers set out to make a change. They would not rest until they had restored the mountains to their former glory, until they could once again ski in peace without the fear of being trampled by the masses.
And as they stood on the summit, overlooking the expansive valley below, Greg knew that the fight was far from over. But with his loyal band of brothers by his side, he felt confident that they could overcome any obstacle that stood in their way. The mountains belonged to them, and they would not let anyone take that away.

Went up at 1p both days and skied Pali without a single lift line Saturday and Sunday.
I was riding here in the late 90's. It was still busy on weekends. Parking lots were full at times etc. But yeah, it was fun back then for sure. Cardboard derby was off the chain! Hitchhiking was also much easier back then.
Hoping for some pow tomorrow.
had hoped for a little more pow than that. The snow we did get bonded nicely and the skiing was really quite fun in spots but in the trees it certainly felt like less. snow gods must be mad at al and his paid parking scheme

Seemed like the storm kinda missed A-Basin. Whereas Beaver Creek supposedly got 15 inches and Copper got 6, OpenSnow says A-Basin got 3, and I believe it.
I didn't like the trees either. Beavers and Zuma Cornice were a generous version of dust-on-crust. Pali and the Steep Gullies held up great though. I'd probably stay on the front side until the next storm delivers.
Outrageous! I think I froze the left half of my brain. Look, I can't move my right arm!
Definitely a dust on crust kinda weekend. Glad i had music in the helmet or else i would have gone deaf. Had lots of fun though.

I’m thinking of coming by to experience ABasin this weekend before the shadow of the new overlords darkens the scene. Anyone around to make some laps and show a traveling East coast soup eater what’s up?
Recommendations for a flat spot to park my truck camper in the area on Saturday night would also be much appreciated.
If you have a full Icon, you’d be much better off in Aspen on a weekend.

Montezuma road might be an option too, especially if you are getting in late and just pulling over to park. Good to get into the basin parking lot before 7am if you want to park in the lower lot. This weekend should be super nice. East wall open and sunny Saturday. Funny thing about the basin this time of year is, if you get on the hill, the lines usually aren't bad. Most people, especially in the afternoon, are just partying in the lot.
Thanks for the info and offer NR… I’m headed out the door to go take a walk/poke around Berthoud today and will probably make it over to ABasin to ski tomorrow afternoon, camp somewhere that night, and make a few laps Sunday am before truckin’ back East. I’ll send a pm.

Janitors only skiing nice. Spring conditions under 2-4 fresh. Pali face and alleys bulletproof under 2. Bodes well for SG.
I found the rocks for you in janitors. Someone go find them for me in gullies.
