That green is hideous.

Color aside, 90K-110K is when BMW owners make a choice to put $3-5K more into the car or dump it. Have to pay to play.
E39s are nice cars, but that $2K RWD wagon is really at least $5-7K. See: https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/at...3&d=1314737014
My experience comes from owning 4 3-series (owned the first 3 to 140K-215K miles; current at 65K) and one X3 (100K miles). A 5er might cost more.
You will probably need to repair/replace/refresh the following in the next 15-20K miles. Cost is at least $3000 unless you DIY (or they might have been done, which would be a bonus)
- hoses and plastic cooling system parts, such as expansion tank, water pump (plastic impeller), radiator
- suspension, shocks/struts, bushings, control arms, ball joints
- tires
In top of those things, you are guaranteed to have a few random gremlins that creep into German cars around 100K+ miles.
thank you I needed that. I drove it and it was so nice.... back to the hunt

Did they have to take off your bumper completely and the most likely ruin it when they put it back on?
Uhaul kinda blows. Just had mine installed. Bumper kinda doesn't line up smooth with body anymore in places.
I'm a mix between livid and not caring because I'm the weird asshole who took an audi wagon to get a hitch installed in Trenton NJ.
Yeah, but I'm in NJ. You rarely see Audi wagons and when you do it's a brand new Allroad that no one would dare put a hitch on.
Don't forget about the catalytic converter they removed.
It was the only uhaul within 100 miles that could install within a week. Never again. It was years since I had been through Trenton. Worse than I remembered it.
The color combination wouldn't be my first choice, or my second; but an M Touring is high on my list.

I love those wagons. One of my favorite designs.
IG, what's new? How you and the wife feeling?
Please feed me more info on the Golf Alltrack!!!
It's a raised Golf Wagon that's more expensive. They drive like a car, have ok power and decent fuel economy. The Alltrak has more programming for the 4-Motion than the regular wagon.
I have a mk7 Golf Wagon (TDI). They are really nice cars. Refined, handle well, comfortable with a simple yet functional interior. Maybe a bit boring.
Were it me, I'd buy a regular 4-Motion since I don't need the ground clearance and appreciate the cheaper cost. BUT, I have read about significant discounts on the Altrak since they are doing a refresh for 2018. They are REALLY trying to clear out the 2017's. I know you can get a 2017 Altrak with a manual, not sure about the 4-Motion Golf. 2018 for sure both can be had with a manual.
Everything I've read says they are more reliable than they used to be. It still won't be a Corolla.
Wagon with roof box stoke.

Was about to pull the trigger on a Volvo V60 AWD. 250 HP with inevitable dealer high maintenance costs
Then the VW Alltrack came out. They look comfortable and fun to drive, but only 175 hp. Maintenance must be cheaper than the Volvo.
I saw a bunch of people expressing interest in the Alltrack. Who bought one, and how are your feelings towards it after some time?
I currently have a 15 Outback with 50k miles. It's been uncomfortable since day one. It's gotta go!
They're easily tuned for more power.
As for maintenance costs, if you go auto then there's the DSG service costs. $350ish every 40k miles.
10k mile oil changes.
It will be a lot slower and less luxurious than the Volvo. But the XC is a way older platform so the VW probably has more tech (if that matters).

Apparently SEL seats are better than the lower models.
Volvo is in another league all together.

Apparently Volvo has arrived at the point of no dip sticks. It requires Volvo factory oil and break pads. My S40 cost $1000 for an alternator.
I think VW might have an advantage there.
If I have to go to the Volvo dealer for every oil change, no bueno!
However, I cursed myself. I gave up an 2005 S40 for the 15 Outback. I went from the Euro leather couch comfort to stadium plastic seating. I've grown soft.
Are the best luxury seats on the market worth the price of luxury car maintenance?
Whichever I buy, will be driven 15-20k miles a year commuting in and out of D.C. That's a lot of ass in the seat.
Seat comfort is ass specific.
Wife's XC70 is called Highway Star in no small reason because of those seats. Long treks to the in-laws and other locations are comfortable as all get out.
I have an 2008 V50 T5, black on black with 89K miles that is being listed on the local (Boulder) Craigslist soon if you're wanting to go back to (a late model) Volvo. Haven't thought about price yet. Great car, I just don't drive anymore. Probably 10K on it in the last 3.5 years. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9e791f78f4.jpg
