Nice ty sir. I read the later engine is a bit more sturdy/capable of handling power increases. That may line up with the versions you note, need to check. And Infiniti.. Good point much cleaner look and finish.

The CD009 transmission out of the later model 350Z and 370Z are reasonably popular in drivetrain swaps because of the sixth gear and robust build.
The Mustang, Camaro, and Corvette are options if you can get past the stigma. The C5 Z06 is a ton of car for the money.
I really enjoyed driving the z06, dad had a manual 01 (hb) with a minor suspension tune. Thing roared like a bear.. Not a big fan of build finish/reliability though.
it's a 12 second car stock though, pretty high on the bang for buck scale for sure.. his was yellow but I like the hatchback variant. Looks like a clean track car.

Got that tail loose over 60mph a few too many times!
Another option is an e46 m3, but I like bimmers. If you aren't sure about what you want, (you're in Salt Lake right?) go to one of the larger cars and coffee events in the valley tomorrow and have a look around and talk to people. Could help you get a handle on what you like. Or go to the mavrik center tomorrow for the autox and check out those cars. If you are still on about the z, I agree with beer drinker, I like the infinity better.
I'm a big fan of the E39 540i. A 6 speed v8 with a sunroof and some 18" wheels, a nice clean cruiser. That 5 series strikes me as a classic design. Don't know much about the more recent M3s, I was into them in high school but the early third generations are kind of old/square and the fourth generation is still a little outside my buy range.

nice work on that Porsche Turbo btw, cool vid.
edit: fourth gen. M3 is cheaper than I thought, nm.
What is your price range?
E46 m3. The e39 is nice, but not really a sports car. A very nice performing mid size sedan, no doubt, but the m3 is much more of a sports car. This one looks nice. E46 is the 3rd m3 model.
under 12k is where I'll be comfortable buying. Trying to hit a sweet spot in useful life remaining and cost. The goal is to get a car that's fun to drive without disrupting plans to take time off in 2018 (need to save $). The 540i has been a favorite of mine but getting the infiniti with a few miles on it has its benefits. Lower cost to maintain without losing the nice finish. E46 M3 is around the top of my price range and maintenance / repair would interfere with saving plans.. little rich for my situation though it is a badass car. Fwiw this is my thought process:
- 350z/G35 (top choice)
- 911T :fm: (maybe when I'm older)
- M3 (pricey)
- C5 Vette (int. finish is crap, reliability concerns)
Don't like
- Mustang / Camaro
- Chrysler
- RX-8 (too slow, ugly)
- S2000 (looks like a penis)
- WRX (don't need AWD on this car)
- Mercedes (too esspensive)
Drive an s2000 before you write it off, they are great. They are very reliable as well and right in the price range. I'd take one over a z any day.
The 07-09 BMW 335 coupes are sick. Manual. Vishnu tune and single turbo. 650hp for around 7k+car. You could probably get one around 12-15k.

I get the crappy Delco interior comments on the Vette. I also get the unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt / hairy chest / gold chain ignominy. But reliability? It's a small block Chevrolet. The RX-8 handles equal to or better than cars costing multiples more than the original retail price but the power and styling leave a lot to be desired even as a Mazda homer. S2000 is an awesome car if you fit and the thing seems destined to be a classic. All that said, get the Z/G if that's what you want. They're great cars, too.
If you're gonna get a Z car, at least get one that you can put a few revs on the tach.

A few more tweaks...widen the track...stuff the engine behind the seat, lengthen the wheelbase, change the Z to R and NOW we're starting to cook Nissan rubber PROPERLY:

Thought about it this weekend while driving the Element 1,100 miles and am set on either an 07-09 HiRev 350Z 6spd or the dark horse C5 Z06. Or a clean E39 540i 6spd with the sport (M) tuning package.
For the vette I meant non-engine. My experience is anecdotal so ymmv, just have the impression that a lot of things will break outside the powertrain. It's probably easy diy stuff with cheap parts.. idk, will give the C5s some more thought.
Not a fan of the styling, different strokes on this one.
Those are very nice stock - sub 5s to 60 iirc.. outside price range unfortunately. A turbo 6spd 3 coupe is an impressive layout, priced accordingly. Fuck those are cool, a little more stealth for 5-0.
Fair enough, agreed it's a nicer car in several respects.
Ship the parts to my house, lets do this!
Now this is an Excursion!

want
Not me. Although, that would be a nice ride to cruise around southern UT.
Going to try and grab this one. Has the stronger 3.5l, low miles, 1 owner, good shape.
2008 350z 6spd

BS - thanks for the tip on the oil issue with the 03-06s. From what I read the 03-06s were about 1/4 to 1/3 affected.
^^
Looks clean! Price is about spot on for it's year, mileage, and condition too, but it doesn't hurt to see if you can get a bit off his asking price. If the car's pristine though, I wouldn't insult the dude or anything, but asking like a grand or two off might be worth trying. I've driven the '08 and it's a really, really fun car. You'll enjoy it.
Once I drive it, I will update with a trip report.
meh on the S2000, they're fun on a test drive when you're railing on it, but not so fun/fast driving it around town going to get coffee.
get a PPI before you buy any 350z, they're notorious for being beat on by younger drivers...you'll want a pro who knows the car type to go over it looking for the common issues.
Id say BMW M(Z3) Coupe, but prices have been going crazy on them, could probably find a decent one with 100k miles on it. Loooove mine.
If you can do brakes, you can do a LOT if you can follow directions/videos.
Silver Z looks clean. Sounds like a nice car. Do it!
