I mean... ANY high country road might close during this storm.
Maybe 70 to Wolcott to Gore Pass, then 40 to WP/Berthoud back to 70?
Oooh - maybe go north from Gore Pass and take Cameron Pass to Ft. Fun.

Whatever you do, don't do that.Quote:
I’m thinking Tennessee Pass to Fremont to Hoosier to 285
Or through Leadville to 285
Why not?
Sent from my iPhone using TGR Forums
Because 285 + Hoosier & Fremont in a snowstorm with lots of wind is probably as bad if not worse than i70.
Yeah, I have no idea why you'd go to Frisco then over Hoosier if you're in Leadville. Either go to Frisco to the tunnel, or go to BV/285.
But I would not do any of those preemptively, I'd do those if closures dictated it.
I repeat this-------- "the biggest hyped storm of the year"
the sun is trying to come out now almost to 20 degrees might start snowing
once they start chaning shit we know its bullshit
it was thursday friday now its thrusday friday saturday maybe sunday
think my nipples are hard
Go to Google maps and look at something like Leadville>Bailey. You'd be unnecessarily driving over divide 2 extra times just to have the please of navigating I70 from Copper to Frisco and then through Brek.
The answer will depend on true road conditions and the type of suck you prefer. I'd say have a full tank and know your decision points and know your risks. Personally, I'd run the gauntlet until I ran into a closure.
i'd just drop everything and move to a ski town and start living the dream no concerns over driving just slipping on the icy sidewalk wearing ski boots
1:20pm start to the weekend shit show on a Thursday, that's gotta be some kind of record.

^^^Vibes to those truckers.
I70 EB Vail Pass reopened briefly.....now closed again....#2.
Closure #3....EB I70 at Silverthorne closed.
Thinking eldora might not be a bad move for tomorrow, they're still looking to get 20+ inches and could avoid the i70 inevitable shitshow...
at least the wind isn't blowing right now
Closure #4.....WB I70 at Georgetown. ;)
CDOT is announcing that there will be avy control work closures tomorrow morning, this could be a good thing depending on your perspective, nice they are announcing this in advance, dont think ive seen that too often:

Mountain/Ski Traffic: Expect traction laws to be in place, your tires are your responsibility. DRIVERS MUST BE PREPARED FOR EXTENDED CLOSURES AND EXTREME WEATHER ON I-70, US 285 AND OTHER MOUNTAIN ROUTES. THERE WILL BE EXTENDED CLOSURES ON I-70 AND US 40 FOR AVALANCHE CONTROL FRIDAY MORNING AND THE POTENTIAL FOR CLOSURES THROUGH THE WEEKEND.
I rolled through the tunnel (westbound) around 1:45pm. Total shitshow (as expected) just before the tunnel where the road tilts to the right. 2wd SUV, 2wd truck (lifted) and rental cars stacking up. Had to squeeze through. Other side wasn’t much better. Was about 45min from Bakerville to the Cove.
Sounds like wartime planning in this thread. At this rate you guys are going to need an operations room to map out your ski days:

One does not simply walk into modor....I mean the lift line....
Stupid vail pass. I don't think I can go home tonight
May I propose the beginning of the shitshow soundtrack?
Truth is the best time to travel I-70 is between 3:00AM-4:30AM.
1) Roads are empty.
2) A lot of police shifts are light, or not manned at all during this time (in the small towns).
3) No police means you can just drive around any closed gates. If there is a cop on duty at that hour of the night, he/she has better shit to do.
Get out early folks and stop being little bitches!
