I'm a noob to the Tahoe ski scene, but talking about doing a little side country off Alpine...twin peaks. Any beta on that little shot? Is that boot pack? Looks like you can do a 2nd shorty lap too?
That’s a super long ridge hike from AM and will drop you into the where the fuck am I hole. Better to do it from below than from AM
And the inbounds part of the the traverse from AM could be closed. They've been closed a lot the last 2 seasons.
I did this last Sunday, there's a pretty obvious skin + boot track along the Ridgeline. I wouldn't want to boot the whole thing, it's pretty far.
I haven't done it from below but agree that the Ridge hike is kinda a slog. Skinning back up for a second lap would be pretty easy.
Snow wasn't very good but it's a cool line.
Let's see if pics work for me

Thanks you guys. Ya, its almost like a Taos Katchina ridge hike as opposed to a skin up, so the skin from the base sounds better I guess.
Booting out would’ve been miserableQuote:

It's been a while since I skied Twin. It definitely helps to start high off the shoulder of Ward Peak; a descending traverse from there will get you closer quicker than starting at the base. I wouldn't know about following the ridge, but it looks potentially nasty on the topo map.
Skied down to the creek and then skinned back to Sherwood. I never quite know where I'm going back there but somehow always end up back at the lift at least.
The ridge is fine as long as you stay away from the cornices, there are some big ones. There's just a lot of ski, then bootpack, then ski, then skin etc sort of transitions.

https://i.postimg.cc/K4X5hPH2/IMG-5154.jpgpow hunting on Thunder Saddle was fun today
Weirdly, there’s no radar returns anywhere but it’s been nonstop light snow in Tahoma and the Alpine cams are showing the same
hey just a reminder of what your local patrollers and guides do for you
a friend broke his leg working the other day - he was just skiing along doing his thing and crashed
Open the freaking lifts OV! Or whatever your name is
What’s the opposite of meadows? Alpine Mountains? Alpine Mounds?Quote:

Lifts were running at alpine. It was pretty awful. Raining (at 10:30ish) to well above the bottom of abc.

6?y/o NSDevo team kid described todays snow as follows:
“It’s like skiing on pancakes covered with glue.”
I thought that was rather apropos.
OV was running lifts, but not Headwall or Granite. Leeward stuff was great up as high as we could get.
Ended up not heading to twin peaks and splitboarded up Rubicon yesterday. Beautiful day up there and a perfect pitch (for me and my kid) on a snowboard. I hadn't stood sidewaze in 4 yrs or so. First several turns were interesting. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c11a2e4ccc.jpg
couple good deals in our consignment corner at The BackCountry

Oooo. What a surprise $1000 DPS’s. Dentist assemble…….
"Open the freaking lifts OV! Or whatever your name is".jackstraw- that side of the rock pile is known locally as "Alpine North". I know... they shoulda.
Mikey B you gotta be kidding me on those prices! Holy molay
I dunno - both of those kits are in really good condition - for the right person looking for a new used kit in our store those could be a good value
used rental kits are going for about the same price range at other stores locally

there are a few other places locally to find used backcountry equipment

the DPS retails for $1700 and that one is new for $1000 - you can’t afford to not buy that
Did a bc lap at 3:00 and 4:10 today, ridiculously good, call in sick tomorrow
Do you remember 3/31/2012?
MapleLeafGillies and I tried skiing Heave in the morning and it was groomed snow that had gotten raincrusted and the water ice corduroy was absolutely impenetrable. Left after an hour, soaked in the hot tub, it started snowing at noonish and you called or texted while I was napping. We met at Luther around 3 pm and by 5 pm it was shin to knee deep. Your old RAV4 got bermed in by the plow.
Next day 4/1 MLG and I met up at Dang with Ottime for an all time morning skin lap, followed by my first straightline of Once inbounds.
Ottime’s pic of MLG on 4/1

3/31-4/1 sure has been lucky for us!
That's so funny A, I was just thinking about that pic. Even deeper and fluffier than I remembered. Have not been back in that zone for some time and really need to find the time to tic off a few laps now and again

^^thats a great pic!
Fantastic pic!
Who else was out spinning laps on KT yesterday afternoon until last chair and how fun was that?!?
What a day of killer storm skiing as the wind buffed out the snow down the chair line and around the Fingers. Also, props to Palisades for running KT all day in some heavy winds.

Got last chair on KT at exactly 4:00 p.m. Winds were gusting to 50+ mph creating some viz issues at times.

But when wind momentarily dropped, there was some velvety snow. Super fun.

I don’t often ski the O.V. side, more of an A.M. skier but was glad I changed it up yesterday. Good times.

Even with the flat light and random whiteouts there were some guys flashing lines in the Fingers at full throttle. Very nice.

Finished the day with a beer at The Cham. The stoke vibe as evident when I walked up to the bar and the first words out of the barman’s mouth were “How good was that today!” followed by a fist bump. I agree.
I did have one area of feedback for the resort it’s this…Could you have gotten a plow to make a single pass thru the parking lot at the end of the day? WTF! At one point there must have been 20+ cars stuck and I never saw a plow. The lot was comedy with vehicles high centered, no chains and people using their skis to dig out. Crazy.

Got some twenty-twenty-three season quality snow in DC this morning. Regretting I could only do one lap.
Can’t believe it’s April
