It's not uncommon for old ones like that to be fairly low proof. Angel's share and whatnot.
Not for sale though. I'm guessing it would retail for $400ish.

I bought into a barrel of Secale Straight Rye bottled in bond from Laws Whiskey House about 4 years ago so I’m expecting a couple cases next week. Anybody try this?
^^^ That's a delicious whiskey. How did your barrel share get organized?
They’re a client of one of my CPA buddies so not exactly sure. I think he just rounded up cash from a few friends and bought a couple barrels. One rye and one 4 grain.
You selling any of those bottles?

Little neighborhood watering hole gets the goods. Yummy.

I don’t know for sure but I think it was around $13k for the rye?
Idaho is a control state. I think Blanton's is around $60-70. Tough to find though. In control states, find the liquor store that supplies the nicer bars. I know where my local supplier store is. I always ask for a case of whatever I'm after is and they'll let go of a couple bottles for me. When I ask for one or two bottles, they tell me they're out. There's two ladies that work there-an Asian with a very thick accent and an anorexic smoker with leather skin. If I make small talk and flirt, they usually help me out. If the dudes are working, I don't even go in the store. Most of the stuff you can't find in the other stores in town is kept in back so you have to ask.
I've been drinking a copious amounts of EH Taylor Small Batch lately. About $40 a bottle and pretty great.
Local watering hole delivers:

Fucking forum software can’t handle portrait mode.
I'd only ever seen 1 bottle of Pappy on a store shelf before today. Checked out a new liquor store in Reno this afternoon and holy shit, they had it all:
10 year was $400
12 year was $500
15 year was $1K
20 year was $1.6K
23 year was $2.5K
Most other prices were a bit high but they were asking $169 for a bottle of Blanton's which I saw in my local supermarket last week for $53. Whisky prices have gone insane!
^That’s fucked up.
Dunno what it closed at but when I left today the silent auction bid (all donated to charity) for the 15y was $1350. Crazy...
Blanton’s has been impossible for me to find this year on the Front Range. Sure has gotten popular.
I ran into my local yesterday to get some Rittenhouse for party supplies, and also managed to grab the last one of these on the shelf-

I’m a blantons guy, last night finally had bookers...I like it I like it alot
Looong week called for a few pours. Funny I didn’t really enjoy Elijah Craig Small Batch much at all. It was just fine. But just opened a Barrel Proof that is knocking my socks off.
Rocking a WT101 old fashioned.

Turkey is massively underrated. If you can find 101 rye, buy it.

I'm not a big rye drinker but the Old Forester 100 rye is solid (and only $23). Rye for bourbon drinkers.
Also did a taste test across 3 barrel proof bourbons that I purchased over the weekend (Stagg Jr, Elijah Craig and 4Roses store pick). Stagg Jr FTW.
WT101 has become my go-to for cocktails. I usually pour something else for sipping neat, but that doesn’t mean I’d be unhappy with it- I just have a bunch of other bottles that I tend not to use in cocktails. My local in Helena doesn’t have the 101 rye but I’ll probably grab a bottle the next time I’m driving past Belgrade.
I have a Russell’s Reserve rye that’s been my go-to rye sipper. I just opened a baby Sazerac that’s pretty nice.
For sure. Turkey is also my go to cocktail whiskey, or just over a healthy amount of ice! On that note the Russell’s single barrel (also barrel proof and non chill filter) both rye and bourbon are outstanding

Henry McKenna Single Barrel 10 yr Bourbon wins Best in Show Whiskey.
Local grains behind spirits wins
A Bainbridge Island distillery that sources organic Walla Walla-area grains has earned an unprecedented series of titles, including World’s Best Wheat Whiskey, in international competition over the last three weeks.
Bainbridge Organic Distillers has had 13 big wins at three major spirits competitions, the company announced.
Starting March 28, its Bainbridge Battle Point Two Islands Hokkaido Mizunara Cask Wheat Whiskey was named the World’s Best Wheat Whiskey in the London-based World Whiskies Awards. Entries came from the United Kingdom, Europe, North America and Asia. This is the fifth time the whiskey has received the honor, the announcement said.
That recognition was followed last Sunday when Bainbridge Battle Point Two Islands Barbados Rum Cask and Bainbridge Heritage Oaked Doug Fir Gin were finalists in their categories in the U.S.-based Ultimate Spirits Challenge. The coveted Tried & True Award was given to Bainbridge Legacy Organic Vodka and Bainbridge Heritage Oaked Doug Fir Gin.
On Monday came word from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition that Bainbridge Battle Point Wheat Whiskey was named Best Wheat Whiskey from a crowded field of international and domestic entrants.
Keith Barnes, proprietor/distiller, said whiskies and spirits have been made over the last 10 years with grains from Touchet’s (pronounced "Two-she") Williams Hudson Bay Farms.
The relationship with the third-generation family farm known for its organic wheat, alfalfa and hay, among other crops, began through a mutual friend in Columbia County.
“Upon meeting with the Williams brothers we discovered that we had many of the same views and that their production was very well suited for a long-term relationship,” Barnes said. “We’ve been working with them since the beginning and they’ve been hard working to meet our growing needs.”
As needs for the organic-only distillery expanded to include corn, barley, triticale and rye, the farm operation has accommodated.
“We set out to make spirits that would be expressive of Washington’s awesome grains, and our association with the Williams has allowed us to do this and more,” Barnes said.
Going to a charity event tonight and two bottles of "pappy" are up for auction.
PVW family reserve 15 year ( starting at $1500 i think)
ORVW 10 year (currently about $300)
Aside from the fact that its just booze, would either be "worth it" in that price range? (Considering it's for charity)
We just dont see much of either around here so curious what the collective thinks. And if i actually bid on the PVW my wife would divorce me.
