Buzz going around about AM howitzer getting a big Estelle slide today?
Been some YEARS........jumped back in, and good discussions on recent events.
Just sharing....WOW, some great days at PT last two weekends. Different, but super fun/interesting. Without KT/Headwall/Granite, it has been really fun doing some creative line finding. Hiking Mainline, Palisades, Reverse Traverse, Shirley Chutes (gnarly right now), has been awesome. Last two Sundays have been AMAZING.
--Also, I just hit phase with my kids where they might legit be outskiing me....so I am on cloud 9. :)
Just saying hey, this place is great!
Test and protocol question:
- Seeing how photos are added (used to have to do whole photobucket thing)
- Protocol - do people add general Ski Shots here, or better to do a TR in that category.

I was up at Rose yesterday and skied til closing. There was a helicopter flying around across the highway from the resort in the Tamarack area. Helicopter land at least once in the backcountry, and then set down again right across the highway from the ski area. Anyone have any info on what was up?

I heard a rumor that there was a D3 avalanche on the east face of Relay with a snowmobile track leading in to the zone. Patrollers and dogs were flown to the site for a search. Thankfully no one was actually involved. Crazy to me that people were riding in that zone yesterday given all of the reported avalanches the last couple of days.
There was a LOT of coral reef at AM today with lines getting longish in the first half of the day.
ESS! Did you ski at Rose until closing yesterday?
Heckacali...I didn't happen to look up at Estelle today but saw control has set off some good ones at Art's Knob and Shuttle Cornice.
Supposedly howitzer shots, and there's only a few places they go....

Man...that was easy.
Huck, how old are your kids???
Riding lifts at Rose today I saw what looked like a very large crown a hundred yards or so east of the relay station, extending at least a hundred yards wide. That might have been what ESS noticed going on. And SAC reporting it, too - 2 skiers, nobody entrained, the photo looks like what I saw.
I was wondering the same thing... I was up on tamarack in the morning and didn't see or hear anything, then went over to chickadee to feed the birds w/ the gf around 1pm, and heard the chopper from there. On another note, a lil bit before noon, some boarders were using a snomachine to access the top of tamarack, then letting it go solo down the east side, isnt tamarack in the rose wilderness?, maybe the chopper was for them?
News says heli was for no injuries slide on Mt. Houghton.

I heard from a patroller who was on his way to go check it out. The initial reports were possible burial and a D3 but none of that was confirmed. Only thing I heard after the incident was no one was buried but never heard a follow up on the size and exact location. I should have been more clear in my post that it was unconfirmed info from an early report. Sorry to add to the confusion.
Thanks for the kids stoke! My kids have no patience for their jong dad to take photos.
I hope all is safe in the BC. Sounds like some possible close calls. Consequences seem pretty big but have hopefully mellowed and stay quieter with the next round of weight.
I was talking to my oldest kid about runout/alpha angle and ran across the article describing 100-yr recurrence avi’s for the Sierra having avg alpha angle of 20*. I haven’t heard anything indicating that we are in or entering a 100-yr cycle, but 20* is a pretty long runout.

Thanks....I'll try to contribute again. I am all fired up right now.
I agree 100%. I love the photo. My kid will ask me to shoot video (horizontal for Insta :nonono2:). Sometimes I do.......but then always screenshot a single pic from it. HA. Other trick is iPhone Live Photo......so I can always get perfect frame. Low res, but fun for sharing.

SB was a mixed bag. Groomers are refrozen crud that softened in the afternoon. The big surprise was the quality of snow in the Silverbelt area. Definitely worth a trip. I never made it over to the Disney side. My kids were dead set on park laps most of the day. Can't say what was over there.
FWIW, after the massive blasting yesterday, stability appears fine inbounds. No big slides like PT. Terrain is different, but I thought it was interesting.
On an amusing note (because nobody was hurt), I got absolutely smoked by a ~8 year old girl today. I was off the side of the run cruising pretty slowly waiting on my smallest. From behind I took a kid to my knee. Caused my skis to cross and hook up. Double eject to my face. She stayed on her feet and kept going without a word. Solid tackle, kid. :D
