They certainly are nice and my friends that have them seem to really like them. Maybe get the I6 since no one will want them now. I can get by with what I have, HTC android and paying monthly ala go phone.
Would be nice to get one with a better camera/video, not into selfies or that crap.
update on Fi. Man it uses a LOT of background cellular data. I am attempting to replace my verizon phone. I am doing a same to same comparison. On my VZ phone i do not restrict anything, not one app. They can all do whatever they want. On VZ I am still grandfathered unlimited so I could give 2 shits. The reason for looking at Fi is even on unlimited I use only 4MB -1GB(max ever) a month, yes i work from home and am connected to wifi 95% of the time,so I figured I could save $50/month with Fi since I use so little data and Fi supposedly uses Wifi as much as it can. Bought into the 2GB/month from Fi. Anywho...about a week in now and I have already used 3MB thats 1MB away from what i used on VZ in an entire month. Fi support says they do it differently, they are new, 1st month is always the biggest on data, some apps require cell data (total bullshit)etc etc etc...all excuses for not knowing WTF is using data on their network. I have even turned a few apps off on the Fi phone in an attempt to slow data use down, but i never do that with VZ phone. This is a pretty well known issue with no clear fix yet. wish they had more answers cause id really like to save a few bucks a month and dump Big Red, but with less coverage area and odd cell data usage it is tough to jump ship. If I have to buy another GB/month from Fi it defeats the entire purpose of switching. I'd rather have the stronger network and ability to use as much data as I want for the negligible savings of Fi on a 3gb plan.
hope this helps anyone looking at Fi. Just an aside, other than the odd data usage in the SLC Valley service has so far been very good. In some sport better than VZ.
Interesting. I use about 500MB a month. It was 800MB the week I went to the Toronto area because travel. And I actually find that I am at about 100MB more than what I would normally expect over when I was on AT&T, however with a different phone. Other than setting the Play Store app to only download updates when on WiFi, I haven't really restricted anything. It does update a LOT of apps, seemingly more than when I was on my old phone. What I find I have to watch like a hawk are battery hog apps. Those are more of an issue for me. Location services sucks big time. And the WiFi radio when I am away from the house. Those are issues for any phone that I have had, however they seem to have gotten worse in 5.x and 6.x and on this phone. I don't like how the GPS receiver got bundled under location services as a "level" instead of being something one could manage separately.
All depends where. Here in VT, AT&T has the best coverage for a few spots that I routinely visit and need to be reachable. It all depends on which provider has a tower.
And I wouldn't exactly call the Wells area "rural". I suppose once most of the people left in the fall it used to be considered rural. These days, I wouldn't go quite that far.
I dunno...this is my third one. The first one, I cracked the screen and used phone insurance; obviously, my fault. The second one wouldn't download apps, so it was send back for a mfg replacement. This third one sucks too.
I was eligible for an upgrade 2mos ago, but was waiting for the I-Phone 7 to come out to see if I can get a good deal on an 6s.
I'm actually most excited for the new I-watch. I still can't believe they released the first one without GPS...stupid Apple.
yeah see thats strange as i have used over that in less than 7 days at 0.31gb as of today. no change in any habits...literally connected to wifi 95% of the time or more..i think it was probably on full cellular in those 6 days maybe a total of 6 hours. the only way to avoid weird cell i was told is to turn off cell when on good wifi. I don't have to do that now..When I am on wifi cell just isnt used period. It goes to sleep. Don't know if thats a VZ deal or not, but it simply doesnt use data. I expect my numbers to be like yours, but its not worth "testing" to see if things settle. The money savings just isnt all that great. Unlimited data is hard to beat.
this has been reported on google fi forums, some users experience it, some do not. Marshmallow, nougat, doesnt seem to matter. In fact Google has reported the fix will be included in Nougat, well I am running it as well as a handful of 5x's and there are still reports about random cell data use. If Fi could explain why I might stick around, but multiple reps dont have answers. I already got a VZ sim just now for my normal VZ number and will cancel Fi. Was worth a shot, just don't think it will work out for me.
I do....but did not turn off "allow app to use background cellular data". So only update via wifi yes....Play store was surely the HOG on cell data. However is not the same hog on verizon. I was looking at app usage on both phones to compare...it was astonishing how play store used more data in 3 days than the verizon phone did in an entire billing cycle. Now...dont give me the whole it downloads all your apps on reset...well thats all done over wifi so..non issue. Having a rep tell me that "some apps require cell data to work" is simply horrible. They should know better. I have phones around the house, running only on wifi with all the exact same apps just no sim and they all work just fine. no app requires cell data.
Weird to hear bad about the galaxy s5. Mine has been bomber, take it swimming in the pool, drop it a million times, still gets good battery life after two years, but it is starting to look ratty. Dropped it onto concrete the other day, and finally the screen cracked. I've had it a solid 2 years, been a great phone.
That said, I ordered a one + 3 the other day. It is somewhere between Hong Kong and here. I'll post up after I get it. I use att, has worked well for me in slc.
Add me to the group that doesn't like the galaxy S5. Just a really wonky phone.
Different model
about 2 weeks with my new S7...and I'm happy.
That's the only thing I like about my s5 active, it does take a beating, so no case required. It's the OS that is all fucked up all the time. Also, the location of the buttons has always pissed me off. Every time I try to turn it sideways, I turn it off.
More complaints. Ringer volume has a mind of its own. Butt dials more than any phone I've ever had. Sends texts randomly from my pocket too. But mainly, the OS is just fucking annoying for so many reasons I can't even start to list. I've been on Android for probably 6 years, and it has just evolved into a cumbersome, glitchy POS.
Note S7 is the one with the battery issue and recall, Galaxy S7 is slightly different. I have had very little issue with my Galaxy S5 so far, probably will be ready for a new battery soon. Make it into the evening depending on the usage and if I have bluetooth devices in use.
I like my S5. Screen rotation has been not working, but most of the time I have it off anyway.
Bluetooth has always sucked with it and my sound bar. That might be a combination of factors.
