A .40 or a 9 (maybe even a .357 with 158 gr) would be useful for taking yourself out of the equation in a confrontation with a grizz, but that's about all ...

Or, if you are a total badass, a .357 will do the trick ...

Sounds like the G29 might be a decent option, Concealable for daily use, 10mm for big critters. only downside is ammo costs...
Fixed it for you. having the balls and skills to shoot and kill a bear that's pre occupied gnawing on your buddy's leg is quite a bit different than being alone with a bear charging you or already on you biting your arms. A cloud of spray is a way higher probability than a sidearm under the latter scenario.
I snagged a Glock from Saddams personal collection.

Serious question. Were any of you pistol packers allowed to play with toy guns as children? Games of Cops and robbers? White hat cowboy vs black hat outlaw? Did you ever play pretending you were Army riflemen? Yes/No question.
I've been to the doc 6 times in October, thanks for asking.
So, Is that a yes or a no.
Thanks, for your suggestion. But who is sick here really. And I'm trying to understand why.
Why all the avoidance to any ownership of what is? Why does someone have such an anti social need to post a picture of a murder weapon in the news to brag of ownership?
So Yes/No - Ever play with toy guns?
like clockwork.
Yes, I played with toy guns as a child. Sometimes we made stick and string bows. Sometimes we whittled sticks to look like guns. Also had a few GI Joes kicking around. Sometimes, we even made our hands into gun shapes and played army. The line was drawn the first time I shot my cousin in the leg with a red rider. I got my ass kicked and then my dad took me back out to the country side the next day and we had a re-hash of firearms safety. Then he took me out hunting a couple months later and I shot my first dear with his 30-06. A couple years later, I took drivers ed, then my buddies and I would go hunting on our own and bring deer home and my dad would help me cut them up.
What's your point?
Paintball. So much fun.
We used to run around in the street shooting at each other late at night with those very real looking black 6 shooter Saturday night special cap guns to freak out passing motorists. Never fathomed that a cop might stop and shoot a real gun at us without first figuring out we were just playing. White Privilege!
Looking for a reason behind all of the gun worship. Fear of loss of control over ones life? Doubts about manhood? Deprived childhood? Great marketing?
So I have one yes, played with toy guns.
I've head that PB was fun. Mostly an adult hobby though. Not many in the 5-10 age bracket play. When I was designing paintball gear for a major online retailer I had everything but the gas. Never played.
I had a white privilege incident involving the cops and one of those battery powered UZI squirt guns that were all the rage 30 years ago. Looking back it makes me really mad that skin color is what gets some kids shot and some kids a Stern lecture by a South Burlington cop that couldn't really keep a straight face once he figured out that we weren't 'brandishing weapons'.
No gun worship here. I like hunting with them, not worshiping them. I also hunt with a bow and I don't worship my bows either. Since we are asking questions, why do think people are "worshiping" guns? I like talking about them as do a lot of people. If you look at my post history on TGR, you'll see I also like talking about skis, powder, boobs, cars, high lift jacks, chainsaws, beer, weed, the housing market, heli coils, bikes, rafts, fishing, animals, and lots more.
If you made a nice little worship reduction sauce, it would be comprised of boobs and powder.
