Well in a fit of practicality, I ended up picking up a 2015.5 Volvo XC70 Platinum with 85k miles instead of the Saab. Set me back 16k and change. It was a one owner cream puff and has the 3.2 along with an impeccable service history. While not a stick, I ultimately like Volvo aesthetics just a lot better, so I think will be happy with this long term. Wife is stoked, so that is all that really matters. Now that she is actually doing the commute every day, she was a little worried about driving a 17 year old car with high miles through the back woods of VT with no cell service.
While we shall lament your absence in the Wrenching thread, your wife will love the choice. That 3.2 will love you long time. Slow engine BUT silky smooth, linear and predictable power delivery, and supremely reliable. Not everything has to be a race car, right? It's still WAY quicker to highway speed than a 240 so I can't complain too much. The AWD was admirable too. Just point and shoot and it does the rest (with winter tires of course).Quote:

AR, just have the AT fluid changed as Volvo thinks that is good forever. :rolleyes2 If AWD, then changing out the transaxle/transfer case (whatever Volvo calls it) is smart too. Likely no drain plug, so it needs to be pumped out.
Yes, yes, yes! This 100%!!! The trans is the supposed weak link in that car... IF you go by the manufacturer's asinine recommendation of it being a "lifetime" fluid. Change it every 50-60K and it'll last you forever. It's actually a great transmission. Mine still shifted beautifully at 1/4 million miles. I credit the routine ATF changes. Using OEM fluid of course. Cheap insurance to stave off a VERY expensive repair.Quote:

Prior owner was literally a 79 year old lady who drove it apparently from farmstand to farmstand around the Berkshires for 8500 miles or so a year. Service history is pretty thorough, but I just went ahead and bought the drivetrain service kit via FCP and will knock that all out next weekend. Watched a couple youtube vids and it seems relatively straightforward.
While the Saab had its allure I think you made the right choice. Sounds like the right car. Echo the driveline fluid service routine. As far as interiors go, top notch. Ok, scratch the Saab used parts guy , save the number of Erie parts. You don’t want to be buying interior and exterior bits from the dealer. Ask for Kyle.

Gotta love the analog feel compared to the modern stuff like the 2018 F31 wagon I had. Yeah, it’s not that quick, but the steering and turn in is fantastic. It’s AWD but doesn’t push like the 2018 F31 or even the 2011 E91 I had.
Going strong at 204K miles. One vote for driving a slow car fast here.

Worth it? They make knock off cables via China but I only roll with my work computer these days and I don't need that headache if some virus made it to the work network. Thinking this standalone machine is the way to go.

I'm currently chasing a few issues on my P3 XC70 as well.
Ambient air temp sensor (P0073)- a well documented issue, wires get cut by a poorly place ziptie on the door harness. I soldered all of them back together, worked fine for a few months, now getting the code again. Repaired wires are good. I suspect the next short is in the power folding mirrors, as the temp jumps from reading ultra high/ultra low when I lock/unlock the doors. Pretty annoying, as it messes with the ECT sensor/cooling fan/climate control.
Death wobble- I just put snows and old XC90 rims on and I'm getting this intermittent shaking above 55mph. It goes from barely noticeable to violent without much rhyme or reason (under power, in neutral, braking doesn't change symptom). My indie balanced/inspected/rebalanced the kit and feels good about the tires/rims. I just dropped it off at Les Schwab for one of those fancy road-force balances to see if that helps (per his suggestion).
What's next Montucky? Axles? U joints? This is a CPO vehicle and the front end passes my indie's visual/yanking on stuff inspection.
