Have fun, Harry! Sitting on my couch with the Rona today... Phuc...
My best day ever in the Midwest. By far.
Storming all day. Had the place to myself.
Cascade on Sunday. I deemed the MFree 118s appropriate for the 2 inches of snow they got. Awesome day period but all time for mid March. Almost got 20k in before we called it a day…

Another beautiful Tuesday to play hookey from work for the morning. I took my last run 4 runs ago. Might end up staying another hour. They won’t miss me at that meeting….

ETA: just had somebody in the lift line tell me they were enjoying watching me ski. So I guess I have to stay. It isn’t about me anymore.
this. is. the. way.

Lol…it’s usually the other way around.

I think this is the most appropriate place to post this...
Had a great time skiing with the Uglymoney clan and their friends the other day at CB. It's hard to beat a bluebird spring pow day skiing around the mountain ticking off the classics.

We just wrapped up a lap through Wyoming/Idaho/Montana catching Targhee, Jackson and Bridger. Freshies on 3 of the 4 days made for some good times. The driving... not so much, got stuck in fkn Dickinson, ND on Friday night from them closing down 94..... so missed Wild's pond skim and the last run of Chair 3. Looks like Wild's planning to wind it down next Sunday. I'm hoping to catch a day or two at Granite if they keep weekdays open into the first week of April when I'm over in Wausau for work.
Glad you got to enjoy some of the skiing "out west".
In Wausau for work? Must be either paper/lumber or insurance or I'm completely off and you do something completely unrelated to either of those.
If you're in Wausau why not make the trek a little further to Merrill and go drink a beer for me at Sawmill Brewing.
Sounds like Welch is singing their swan song this weekend as well.
I went out to Welch last weekend, and last Thursday's rain and then freeze made conditions a tad challenging, but still fun to get out. No complaints - it's been a great season.
Hopefully I'll be seeing Bacon and Harry this coming weekend for the pond skim - all are invited! The beach (parking lot) is always hopping on pond skim weekend.
Engineering/consulting. There's an old landfill in town that we turned into a giant soccer complex. I deal with the gas extraction system and am out there April/October every year to do preventative maintenance that the city engineer doesn't want to be bothered to learn. Every now and again, I'm able to catch Granite if they're still open in April (got a couple nice powder days a few years back when they had some late blizzards.
If I've got the time, I'll buzz up to Sawmill - haven't been to that one yet, but have heard good things.
This Sunday is the last day of the season at Tyrol. Supposed to be sunny and warm, the pond skim and Big Air competition are happening, always entertaining
BBI-Midwest tomorrow at Welch Village will feature an all-maggot Chinese Downhill with the winner being determined by the most inappropriate skis.
Any of you tune-nerds know what edge bevel to put on some Pon2oons?
Sent from my iPhone using TGR Forums
Probably just a 1 base 1 edge for midwest use. You could go 1.5 or 2 base if you just want to slide down the hill mach sideways without worrying about catching an edge.
I'd just kiss and go 1 1

What a fun day, and I didn’t even ski. BBI-maggots mixed with the Welch Belch mixed with a bunch of Ttips tele goons made for a good crew. I’m still not quite sure who was who, but I was surrounded by friendly people who love to ski and my Bloody Mary cup was always full. Plus the food, OMG. maggot Bacon Me Crazy hooked me up with bacon gyros on the grill. The pond skim was hilarious, maximum carnage.
I was one happy boy today. Welch was a long drive for me, but I will definitely be back.

End of season fun with a greybird day for a pond skim, even snowed a bit. Tyrol had a free season pass to anyone that made it across, only 1 person did

Thanks for coming down, Harry! It was one of the bigger pond skims I remember, and the turning fluid was running like liquid gold! The skiing pretty much sucked anyway, so I can't say you really missed anything! Fun day - I think all enjoyed it...except that one kid...
I figured this shot belonged in this thread.
Thanks, Harry!

F-ing HUGE powder dump. In April. I can’t get out of the driveway, waiting for the plow guy to show up.

Delayed opening, wind delay.
Came the closest I’ve ever been to getting stuck getting out of my driveway. Wet and heavy….

Midwest appropriate skis: check
15 inches was the official measurement today. But Christie Mountain is closed for the season. So headed to Trollhaugen for the Pond Skim shenanigans. But after the delay waiting for the plow guy, then the county roads were absolutely fuct.
I gave up and went to the gym. One hour on the indoor track, one hour swimming laps, and one hour pumping iron. Ended up being a good day despite not skiing on the biggest dump of the season.

Dude, 3 hours of gym time definitely trumps whatever was coming via watching a pond skim.
I don’t even have a pond skim here. There are like three people who ride chairs for corn.
And then the rain comes. Probably next week.
People in this Midwest thread need to be reassured how much everyone misses Tahoe in years like this.
It’s like a second sport over there.
/glances side-eye over at a posse that looks like they’re entering their second ski season this year.
Last day of the season…

Welch lost power yesterday, which was supposed to be their last day, but pulled an all-pro move and opened today, so I got a couple final turns in for the year. Kudos to them for pulling enough staff together to spin a couple lifts!
On the fence about a possible shot up to Spirit next Saturday - we'll see what this week brings. We ended up with about 8-11" in my neck of the woods (Blaine area). Heavy wet shit too... It wouldn't have been much fun to ski in.
We managed second chair and first tracks on quite a few runs at Wild on Saturday. Pretty decent for April 1st.

Tracked to hell of course in an hour or so, but they were clearing out the bar, so $2 - 2 for 1's made up for it. A couple good snowball fights between the deck and chair too.

Looks like it was pretty nice @ Wild! Wish I coulda made it out!
Sunday was closing day at Giants Ridge. It was a warm snow/rain slopfest. About 1/2 new snow or graupel or some shit fell while we were eating lunch in the restaurant but that stuff skied like bubble gum. If I wasn't a dirty hippie I'd have gone over the bars every time I drifted wide into the shoulder.
To moist for action pics but here's the lineup headed home.
