Kid kapow, we did consider designing a dual lever system but given the architecture of the marker heel piece itself there was no good solution that was light/reliable/stable.
As a 190 lb guy I can say the solidity of our aftermarket riser is noticeably better than a lot of bindings our there. Gives you confidence in those weird skinning situations.
The 14mm adjustment plate that is a radical mount pattern is a great option and will save some weight with a race style heel. How old are your radicals? The toes seem to last a very long time (indefinitely) but Dynafit did some updates on the heel design the first few years (check wildsnow.com for details). Dynafit might replace your heels if they are 1st Gen. The newest speed radical heel is better and just replacing your heels with those is reasonable.Quote:

The bindings are old, and Dynafit in NZ actually replaced the broken heel, but it's still the old version with the suspect roof.

Their mounting pattern is wide as well, so could be used on fatter skis as perhaps an alternative to Alpinists or ATKs. But their mounting pattern is also unique, so can't imagine too many shops can mount them. I don't see any jigs or even paper templates out there.

330g w/o brakes for the Slatnars, so heavier than the Alpinists and carbon ATK competition but the 50 mm of BSL adjustment is nice.
I think I’ll stick with $250 Alpinists from the euro retailers but interested to see Slatnar reviews.
I believe ATK Freeraiders weigh almost exactly the same, around 330g with the freeride spacer and no brake. I bet the freeride spacer on the slatnar is more durable and performs at least as good
Isn’t this Slatner just a basic U-fork style heel .
Maybe I’m missing something but for same/less weight I’d take an ATK Raider with cam release heel or go full weight weeny with a much lighter race style U-heel
I'd really like to see something that's a trab style toe, light atk cam heel, and low profile freeride spacer. I mean I guess there's nothing stopping me from putting this together myself...
Did atk release some kind of a low profile freeride spacer? The 15 mm tall "universal" one is too tall for any of the light bindings I have.

I like a combination of both. Creating a template for the heel allows me to fiddle with the position in the track. The toe holes get drilled one at a time in any case.

For those who have mounted Alpinists with heel shims - where did you get the longer screws? I can't for the life of me fine one that is 6mm longer than stock. Every shop in whistler came up dry, the best they had were ~4mm longer.

The delta is actually negative with the boots I am using, and I prefer a positive delta of ~4mm. Especially with a more upright boot. Personal preference!
Is it a bad idea to mount a 300g binding like the trab vario with vwerks katana? I would mount them with an atk universal spacer so I don't beat too hard on the pins.
I went with Vario.2s on my 177 KVWs that’ll just be seeing touring use, but looking back I’d go with the ATK “R08A - XXL Toe Adjustment Plate” for a little more toe security to fall within the reinforced Volkl H area. Available on skimo.co
Relating to your question overall, though, it more depends on your use scenario and whether a 300g binding is appropriate or not. If it is for what you’re looking for and appropriate, I’d say go for it!
I use the mtn on vwerks katanas, my third pair already absolutely no issues

I can see the appeal of a wider mounting area but I can also see the appeal of direct mounting a <200g binding. Particularly because the plate is 52g and 5 mm thick. If you need plates under the toes and the heels … it does add up so at some point you might as well just go with an ATK FR or similar 300g binding vs a <200g binding. There's something outrageous about a 170g binding on a big ski.
Dunno, I haven't exactly figured out what a 300g binding use scenario is. I couldn't discern a significant difference between skiing with the Vipecs I've used since their initial release on various skis and the Varios. I prefer a relatively light setup for big days and couloir boot packing. I like simple bindings with low fiddle factor because I am a clutz on transitions. The Vario performed well last season, but it developed some play in the adjustment plate. I believe the ATK spacer could solve that issue. I I want a burlier ski for the high traffic heavy snow coastal BC, but I don't want to go too much up in weight.
brakeless raider, probably, is the burliest/weight trade. Alternatively, Haute route with freeride spacer added.Quote:
