My friend Johnny spent the last eight months building a 23' panga from scratch. It is a bit longer, since he fabbed up an offshore motor bracket for the fun of it. He used plans for a plywood/glass build but ditched the plywood part and built it using foam core composite construction. No wood anywhere. He knows what he doing in this field but it is mind blowing to me:

I've been deep in offshore lore and the 41' Razz Apache in the video above. The boat lived on with new paint and looked to be in nice shape up until at least sometime around 2011.

The boat eventually sold. It seems like there is a push to restore old race boats like this one so hopefully it reappears down the line.
Lots of guys taking those old race hulls and converting them into go fast fishing CC's down here with OB Brackets or diesels.
They look super cool, but the same features that let them cut through the seas also make them really weeble wobbly out in seas fishing.

That thing at least has some beam to it. Most of the Go Fast boats I have seen a shaped like knives. Great for going fast, but not the greatest platform for sitting in 4 ft rollers trying to fish.
That is a cool project, but you have to wonder how much more he will spend vs. just buying something similar.
I kinda wonder how you're supposed to reach the rocket launchers from the deck below but I guess they have a plan.

Fixed the F'n motor. Last tech reinstalled the lower unit one notch off, JUST like I did.
Pulled it at my friend's shop. Control in neutral, LU in reverse.
Got that sorted but apparently the screw up toasted the starboard control bushings.
Oh well, new owner will get to handle that. $700+ labor. She shifts, just hangs up on neutral a little, and doesn't always engage reverse on the 1st try.
New control should make it pretty much butter.
Don't buy a boat.

A lot of people are expecting the used boat market to really improve soon. I think it'll get better but unless there's a financial shock I don't think it's really gonna be great, there's a lot of new boaters out there and even if only half of them stick with it that's still a lot of pressure on the market. Just a guess though.
I was on the ICW up and down IoP/Sullivan’s/Chas last week with a bud who works the water and he pointed out some of the silliness going on. Beautiful, navy-hulled, brand new Scouts sitting in dry dock with no power. Just waiting.
One guy in the harbor had dual Sevens and he said he sold them (and the boat they were hung on) for damn near twice what he paid for it a little over a year ago (pre shitstorm). Crazy shit out there right now if you wanna burn gas on the water.
I was smarter than I usually am and saw the crunch on boats (new and used) coming and jumped last November, I was even able to work the dealer down some. I may have written this on here before but I was talking to the sales guy at the dealer back in I think June and he said they had sold every boat they had and every boat they are scheduled to get this year and were taking deposits for 2022 deliveries.

Coming from a 34 ft Intrepid, I am really excited to get back to a small trailerable skinny water machine for a while. I can tow it to a ramp near anywhere I want to go for a fraction of the cost of running twin 250's. Kinda bittersweet moving back down, but I am truly excited to make her unique. Stupid things hold their value really well. I could probably get $6-8,000 for it in it's current condition.
