FWIW, Android 7.0 just dropped on my Fi 5x today Installing right now. Been running the Beta 7.0 until now and it's been pretty slick except for a short period where android system was devastating my battery. Hopefully the official version is buffed out.
Dropped official support for my Nexus 7. Come on Google, it ain't that old.
Ended up with the Moto Z Force. Nice phone, no head phone jack and uses a Type C charger. Which is a pain because I only have one charger cable now. The head phone jack is replaced with a Type c connection adapter. I guess they think most stuff will just be Bluetooth and some point.
They are taking their sweet time with mine, still at 6.1.Quote:

I picked up a used nexus 6 Fi card should be here tomorrow. Keeping vz while I decide if I like Fi enough to port my long time number away from big red. Will report back. An aside I had a few questions about Fi and their online chat was fast and informative obviously volume is low but still... Can't wait to give it a whirl.
I'm finally out of Verizon's contract, and switched back to Fi today (took a few days to get the new Fi sim in the mail). Porting my number over was quick and painless, took maybe 15 min for the phone # to start working.
When I was testing Fi at home a few months ago when I first got the Nexus 5X phone, I couldn't get a cell signal inside my house at all (live in mountains, about 5 miles from Mt. Rose, outside Reno) -- but strangely, outside the house, I got a full-strength T-Mobile LTE signal, that was stronger and faster than Verizon. Weird.
Well, not really. Google Fi support person told me that T-Mo uses a frequency that does not penetrate buildings very well and that it is a known issue. Heh. However they are rolling out new frequencies. I went through this in Wells, Maine last week. According to the coverage maps, I should have had coverage from T-Mo and US Cellular at the motel. And that I was in a Sprint dead zone. That area is weird for cell coverage no matter what carrier. Lots of dead spots. Anyway, all I could get was a weak Sprint signal when outside. So I called Fi after installing Fi Info and Signal Spy (Free version). I wasn't seeing any connections to the other two networks. The support lady had me force my phone over to those two as i was worried something was wrong with my phone. Nope. Phone was working as designed. I really was in a dead zone. The two maps were overly optimistic and I was connecting on the strongest signal (from the carrier with the pessimistic map for that area). That's when she mentioned T-Mo and the frequency thing.Quote:

Ok so got Fi card today. Setup is idiot proof. Ported my Google voice number for the time being to test. Pretty big issue. Seems those that port a Google voice number are having send and or receive SMS issues. All providers outside tmobile and Google Fi or voice numbers fail. Looks sent.. never makes it. Known issue lots of people effected. Forums state could take up to 5 DAYS for the full port over to complete. Chat help was good bit could not resolve. Not a huge deal for me now as I haven't dumped big red but it's surely not smooth yet.
Will update as to service as I test.
Get a person on the phone via their Fi site and they will work on it and follow up. Seemed better for me than the chat folks when I first started. I phased out my Google voice number but I can still use via hangouts and ported my number from Verizon after being with them forever (20 years!).Quote:

I'm officially over Android, ATT, and my Samsung S5 active. Damned phone has a mind of its own. Turns off Wifi, changes to military time, installs shit I don't want. Wifi changing has caused me to go over data multiple times and be charged and ATT won't refund it. I was a big fan of Android for a long time but can't wait to switch back to an iPhone.
Verizon sucks too, but they are installing new towers in our area, ATT flat out said they wouldn't be installing any new tower in the foreseeable future. WTF? Live in a pretty big neighborhood with spotty coverage at best.
Sounds like a bum phone to me. I been on Android since it's inception in Verizon. Og moto droid. I've had nearly every manufacturer device brand. Mostly Samsung and never had even one of the issues you speak of. Maybe the flaws are part of att baked in features? Seriously weird but surely isn't close to what the majority of droid users experience.Quote:

Interesting data point to watch with Fi. I have had the service exactly one day. Normal habits concerning cell service mostly home on wifi. Away max 2 hours since I started service. I've already gobbled up nearly what i used in the last full month on big red. .22gb so a quarter GB in a day with only 2 hours full on cell data. All appropriate apps have been disabled for background data. Biggest offender is Android OS. Roughly 5mb in a day. My vz phone used .1% in the last month for reference. Vz running marshmallow stock. Fi phone Nexus 6 running current stock nougat.
Others on Reddit etc have reported same issue. Looks like they may have acknowledged the issues again seems not widespread but it sure is odd. I won't keep the service if Android OS, which cannot be disabled, is going to eat half a GB a month even when I'm mostly on wifi (95% of time). On vz I don't care how much data anything uses I'm unlimited. The savings on Fi will disappear if this kind of unexpected data is used and I buy more GB/month. It's really only about $50/month savings and the piece of mind my vz plan offers might be totally worth it. This experiment might end very quickly.
So $950 bucks for the new primo iPhone and wireless earbuds? Yeah, no thanks. I'll keep my $250 Nexus.

Update : I'm about 1 week into Fi on the Nexus 5X. Definitely not as good coverage as Verizon out in the boonies of the eastern Sierra, but I expected that.
Have used a whopping 0.038gb of cellular data so far. Voice calls over wifi work great. I like Fi voice mail more than Verizon too.
Could be an rogue or bad app you have loaded on the phone burning through your data. If so, the same thing could happen on IOS if you load up the same app (other than it would have to be written for IOS)... There are also many tools and apps out there that will tell you which apps are your highest data user(s).Quote:
