I thought these were skiing camps, not boozing camps? Not that there's anything wrong with boozing.

^^^It is strictly for medicinal purposes, analgesia really.
It makes the video review much less painful.
It definitely is a ski lesson first
Matter of fact thats the main reason id go, to improve my ability
But being able to knock back a few cold ones makes the deal sound that much sweeter
Ive got a couple questions for Gordy (who i believe runs this) or anyone else who knows the answer
Where abouts is this whole straightlines camp business run?
And how did you manage to net instructors like Jeremy Nobis and Dan Treadway!?!
I'd be absolutely stoked to ski with those guys and learn from them
Gordy is a skiing god, and Nobis and Treadway are just a few of his lesser minions:fmicon: Hint, look through some TGR films of a few years back.
The level of instruction is that high, an so is the drinking. http://www.straightlineadventures.com/ is a top shelf operation, hence the reason way it attracts so many top notch maggots (of which I am not one, but I try.) Go to the website for more info, and start saving money from your paper route;)
Ive seen Nobis and Treadway in action, but not Gordy. I'll have to look into that.
It does sound pretty high caliber. So is there a required amount of skill, or can anyone who thinks they can keep up join?
I recently aquired a job at a ski and snowboard shop, so ill start saving
Gordon,
I plan on traveling to Yewtaw. After my experience in Shamoknee last year I can only imagine the kind of "cultural exchange" that might occur with the young mormon lasses. ;) I was wondering if you have room in your January camp. Would I qualify for the "maggot" rate?
I almost forgot.....regarding the Idur proform, I noticed that they seemed to have omitted ski bibs. How might I rectify this?
I was on the fence regarding the January camp, but if the good Dr. is in, so am I - PM sent Gordy.
Sure I'm excited about skiing with the pros and a bunch of maggots, but the chance to once again witness the Dr.'s chablis fueled exploits is just to good to pass up!
LBSki, are we adding another CA/Sierra skier to the January camp?
We are going to Californicate Utah. They may just close the borders.
Go.
Every year you delay you get older and more decrepit. Like me.
I spoke to Gordy and I understand there is quite a bit of instructionAND I think it's like this:
- ski a line
- get feedback and pointers
- ski a line
- get more feedback
- ski a line
- get permission to change from pizza pie to french fry turns
- etc
I'm in fer sure. This'll be my fifth straightline camp in four years, and I've always come away with new stuff - and Gordy hasn't filed for a restraining order yet. Anyone on the Cali crew have lodging plans?
I thought I was the only stalker:)Just need to get Irul to sign up and get the pimp shack again. That place rocked.
I'll also be attending the January camp and representing CA. I'd be interested in whatever communal lodging people put together.
If anyone else attending the January camp is going to see Lost and Found tonight in SF, send me a PM.
Yup. Trying to decide if it makes sense to just stay at the area. Gold Miners Daughter has 4-to-a-room dorm lodging for the kinda steepish price of about $150/night/person, including all taxes and fees. Also includes breakfast and dinner. You wouldn't need a car, but you would need a shuttle from the airport, ~$28/one way. But, you would be right there!
Lodging in Sandy probably way cheaper, but you would need a car (I hope we would need 4wd for the snowy roads), drive back and forth each day, deal with your own meals... Worth saving the $? Not sure...
If there were 3 others interested in dorm lodging at GMD, I would lean towards that. I have not checked on house-type lodging in the canyon.

Another thought would be to rent something like this:
http://www.vrbo.com/146513
With 6 it would run $85ish per night.
Anyone interested?
I'm definitely interested. That particular place looks like it may only rent by the week though. The Village at Sugarplum looks like it offers similar lodging as well. [Edit: It's the same place but with different owners.]
HobieTony- $150 seems awfully steep for a dorm bed. Am I reading that right?
It's probably be worth consulting str8line himself or Irul&ublo, who I think rented a cabin for one of the camps last year.
this question is aimed more at Twins and Hutash, since I've ridden with them:
what's the skill range on these endeavors?
i mean riding with Nobis and company seems a little daunting for someone like me who considers himself to only ski half-assed well, but i also want to up my game several notches...it's not like i'm stuck in a stem-cristy, but i also ain't straightlining Corbets, either.
"Cabin." Heh.
As long as you can comfortably navigate a black diamond run you should go to this. I wish I could again this year but finances just wont' allow as I've already got 4 days in Utah lined up for mid Feb, doing it on the cheap and I can't afford the camp price on top of that. Last year was a blast and there were lots of less-than-godlike skiers there. If you want to improve, go and learn.
I hope to be there again next year.
Dookey67,whats up? You have the skillz.I was the JONG in the "A" group last year."A" Group did quite a bit of hiking ."B" group seemed to bag some of the same terrain but with less laps/hiking."C" group a little less the "B" group. You can jump around from group to group if you want to step it up or chill for awhile. You can even take a break and meet your group on the hill if you want.Cell phones are used during the day by the coaches.Last years camp gave me the tools to handle what the mountain offered.Pretty cool, thats why I`m going back. The way I look at skiing certain lines changed also. The people in your group will also have some great tips .Everyone critiques your skiing, not just the coaches. You should sign up for the Jan. Camp. Get the skills early in the year so you can use them for the rest of the season.
^^^What he said. If you can land a 40 foot huck switch you'll be fine:eek:
You ski to the level you feel comfortable with, but the couches and the group will challenge you and stretch you a bit to improve your skills. Hell, if that poser Twins can do it so can you.;)
Sign up ASAP, there can't be too many spots left, you can do this camp, and you will come away a better skier. If you still aren't sure PM Str8line, and talk to him. That is what I did last year.
Is anybody staying a few days after camp? I am thinking of possibly staying Monday and Tuesday to put some of this to good use.
Twins, Hut, AK, thanks for the insight, i'mma look into it.
Dookey67 - What they said. You should go for it.
Hutash - I might stay for Monday.
AKBruin - Thanks for the link to the other units - I'll e-mail a couple of them and see what can be arranged.
So far, I have the following expressing interest in putting the lodging thing together:
LBSKI
AKBruin
TWINS
Jim S
A couple more makes this doable - Hutash?, HobieTony?, Tarkman1?, DrWhat?? (It's BYOC - Bring your own chablis).
I maybe interested. Last year I stayed in the room Gordy set up, which was super convenient, but would like to get in an extra day or two.
A lot will depend on transportation too. Is anybody driving up from soCal or flying?
If we have to drink chablis, you can count me out. A selection of reds will likely be in my suitcase though, if that is acceptable.
I`m all for a carpool from Socal if possible.Plus count me in for the extra day or 2 after the camp.It sure would be nice to ski in /out at the Bird. Would be worth the extra jack to stay within walking distance IMHO:)
Looks like it's coming together - Thanks LBSki for the push on the lodging. :yourock:
On another note, it is still 85 degrees here, and I think we will be camping in Puerto Lobos, Mexico for Thanksgiving, instead of skiing the 1% open terrain at Wolf Creek. (Sorta trading one Wolf for another) Thought the sailing season was over, but there you go.
T
Str8line called and confirmed my spot today, which promptly caused me to neglect all work and watch ski segments on YouTube for a few hours.
LBSki- Thanks again. Str8line seemed to think the Sugarplum was a good place, so let's definitely do it. (I might also have a co-worker willing to crash with us.) Like Hutash, I think I'll bring a couple bottles of red (perhaps some Chateauneuf) to ease the pain at night.
Dookey87- He said there are 5 spots left, so get on it.
still only 3 mags for feb, utah camp? just checking.
I'm in. I believe daywalker is in as well. I will be putting in my deposit in the next few days, as well as booking flight. Trying to convince brklyn as well!! :D
If you're interested in splitting housing, let me know. whitehunter did a kickass job planning our condo last year, i feel the need to pay it forward and will take the helm on that.
I'm in for lodging for maggot camp one, LBSki is organizing it. The more the merrier.
Beandip, are you and Daywalker going to the Feb camp?
OK, I just signed up for the January camp in Utah. When I first saw this thread I thought it would be pretty cool to bump the skills up, but never got serious about it. Life changed recently with the sudden passing of my father, so I said "F" it. Life is short. Have Fun. Anyway, I am psyched to head back to Alta, and would definitely be interested in hooking up with a group housing deal, so count me in on whatever.
Scott
Edit: I am planning on arriving Thursday and departing on Tuesday. Plan to ski Monday.
thats right guys, keep filling up the other camps so that gordy HAS to run a march camp too....
Has anybody heard from Str8liner? Is he OK? I PM'd and emailed him with no response the past month.
Heard from him Sun. Adding 3 for Jan camp. An old fart from the San Juans and two sons are coming down fron Sun Valley. We'll try to keep up.
LBSki - am in for the Jan camp too. Still time to join in for lodging?
