There isn't a sense of community anymore, in the global variety. There was a small one to begin with, but as with any utopian idylic society, the disenfranchisement of the masses came with the realization that real people with really f'd up personalities are on the other end of the avatar. Some of those people you like, some.... not so much.
With the shattering of the internet persona the board became a meetinghouse of cliques. The WA clique, the UT clique, the EC clique, the ripper clique, the gaper clique. By virtue of human locality this was bound to happen. However that also gave rise to the cooler than thou, say anything, like to fight troll clique These are the people that defend their actions with the fantastic, never overused "It's the internet, relax, try not to take it so seriously" comment.
I support anyone wanting to leave. If you want to go, go.
I did and it was great.
I know some people I count as very good friends. People around since before the first summit who have left. I'd miss their contributions but frankly,
