NH Mags, there might be a screening coming soon to Portsmouth, so I'll update once I hear additional word. Music Hall sounded really interested in running it.

If I don't see this soon, I think I might explode.
Literally.
Jan 11 in PC for me as I will be out of town on the 21st of Dec.
Powstash will you sit next to me and hold my hand when I get scared?? :D
p.s. the lx.com vid on their website is recommended viewing for sure
Sorry if this is a silly question, but are all showings at the same time of day? Do you need to check in with the theater itself for exact time?
Nice!!! stoked to see it.
I want to see it...:D
I probably want to own it too...
interesting interview (video) with the film makers...

I'd bet that those dates aren't just for the day of, but a weekend or so of showings. All those dates are fridays, and since they are actual movie theatres, I'd guess they would show for the whole weekend/week if not a couple weeks. I could be wrong, but I know the Speakeasy in Breck usually shows their movies for a week, not just one night.
a few years back they had an almost identical trailer at the mainstream theaters in MA only halfway through a bunch of cell phones started ringing and it turned off to be a shut your cell of psa. i remember being so insanely disappointed when i realized it was fake. sure the fake skiers couldnt act, but i let myself buy into it cause i was waiting for a movie like this for years, especially after seeing dogtown and z boys and riding giants. i guess now i finally get to watch it.
One week to opening bump.
Release schedule here. It'll be in my office park in January. Woo hoo!
aaaaarg. I'm driving back from CO when it plays in MN, and it doesn't play at any of the places I'll be out west while I'm there. Penis. Might have to drive down to Milwaukee in Feb... I guess at least I'm missing it so I can actually be skiing, that's about the best possible reason to miss it, huh?
We were able to get an uncompressed, high resolution version up on nossaTV. You can watch it streaming on our site, or full screen if you download and install our media player.
Working on getting the four additional clips that are on the Steep Film site. In the meantime, here's a long boring interview, but at least it's spiced up with some more great footy from the film.
One week bump!

Interesting perspective by the NY Times
For me, watching Steep's vintage ski extreme footage was a big thrill, but I also found the athlete profiles very interesting. Kind of like looking in the mirror, in an (admittedly) small way.
In addition to seeing a screening, I also got a chance to talk to Andrew McLean about the film.
For a little extra stoke, check out the interview, featuring bonus expedition tips and a little music from a bona-fide Japanese rock star.
:)

Any SLT Mags down to see the show tomorrow night? I'm gonna be up there all weekend, maybe I can pull Spats in on it too if he's around.
We're planning on going in Whitefish tomorrow night if anyone is interested in joining. Don't know what times are yet but we can't go til late.
Just saw it tonight. Good flick.
It was nice to see Briggs talking again about his skiing, after getting to know him over the past couple years.
Seemed odd they focused on Plake and basically ignored Schmidt. In my opinion, I grew up watching Schmidt in early Warren Miller flicks. He was killing it, and seemed more influential with Plake being more of a media guy.
The focus on Coombs was very well done and very tasteful. The cablecam footage was pretty inspiring as well.
Perhaps my favorite part of the movie was the coverage of Anselme Baud and the other French skiers. Anselme comment "For a moment, I was a little superman" (something like that) was classic.
Overall a very well rounded coverage.
Didn't see this posted yet, Apple has an HD trailer up on their site. Sick.
I missed it when it was showing in Vancouver and can't wait til it comes out to DVD.
very, very well done, good flick,
Ill be buying a copy
Just so the SLC mags know, it looks like it will be in the Theater at Trolley Square until 1/3, so don't flip out if you missed it Friday.

I made the trek to So Tahoe to watch the film.
There were only three people in the theatre.
I really liked what I saw. It is a chronological documentary about extreme skiing.
I think I even say Gordy standing next to Doug Combs at the shitty little bar @ the Best-western Valdez.
Then there was Ingrid. We have all seen that run before but after watching older footage of guys doing hop turns in the steeps and then the way its done now. Things have really changed.
Then the projector in the theatre BROKE! Thats it that's all I saw. I guess its showing over the holidays every day @
the heavenly cinema.
I hope it does well. I don't know if it will do well on the big screen but we will be seeing it on OLN, Discovery ec by next year.
To anyone who like ski movies GO SEE THIS ON A BIG SCREEN WHILE YOU CAN.
I think I'll be seeing it in Breckenridge Wednesday after christmas. It's playing all week at the speakeasy at 8:30pm up till Thursday night.
we had a group of 8 going to the show scheduled after it broke so obviously we didn't get to see it. they gave us our $$$ back and a comp for tonight so hopefully it doesn't break again.
Kick ass movie! Of course the skiing footage was amazing, but the real prize is the intimate glimpse into the steep, extreme, trend setting culture and it's icons. How people that are not central to the ski industry made such a dead on accurate and appropriate documentary of this specific genre of this fringe sport is amazing.
Go see it!
Just got back from the movie. Go see it. There were only 10-12 people in the theater, but 2:50 on the Sunday before Xmas probably has something to do with that.
The ABC Sunday evening news just had a little feature on it. Better than the GMA spot, I thought. No people in the studio, just some footage from it and some quick interviews. I noticed that the correspondent (Miguel Marquez, or something like that) was riding a chairlift that a) did not appear to be in any sort of wintery environs, and b) was going down. :nonono2:
Great movie once they fixed the projector. Me and five other people in the theater, and I got their early thinking I might not get a ticket. ha
Movie was good loved all the Combs moments, Just wished there was some new footage in the film. Wanted some new big lines that aren't in any of the ski movies I already own.
looks fun ...
Saw in last night in Jacksontown. Third full theater. I left with mixed feelings. Loved all of the ski scenes. Great interview with Bill Briggs. Schmidt/Plake stuff was good, with a couple really funny parts. I had forgotten how 'revolutionary' the early Greg Stump films were. Thought it was funny how Sick Rick is now, or at least for the purposes of this film, the official voice of the 'extreme skier'. But I first met him when he had just moved to Pig Sty, when he was more concerned with big lines than big sentences. The base jumping stuff rocked. How about that footage of the 3 guys in the slide? And who t.f. was filming that????? The Valdez segment was awesome, and helped me understand what the big deal is. I want to go there now.
I guess what bothered me a bit was the focus on Coomsie. For those of us who knew him or his vast legion of friends, we're still pissed at loosing him so soon. Sure, he 'died doing what he loved', but fkna, it was what he wanted to love doing for decades to come, with his friends, son, wife, etc. It just still sucks that he's not going to be Bill Briggs age, looking back with the wisdom of the years. That the chica next to me was sniffling through the tough section just reinforced my thoughts. :( If we hadn't lost Doug [way, way, way too fuckin early], the movie would have lost a central theme. I doubt that was the intent of the director, but I can't quite feel good about this one...
Bump. Any PDX mags catching this? Just opened last night at Cinema 21. I'm probably going tonight, 4:45 show or 7pm show. Maybe 9, but I'd like to get up to the mtn tonight.
Good clips. I liked the interview. Trying to figure out why you like to ski, is like trying to figure out why girls are cool??? It/they just are, its life....
"racing is important to men who do it well, It is life, all the rest is just waiting"
Steve McQueen, The movie - Le Mans (70s)
Just saw it in NYC (been stuck here for the holidays), most of the people left before it was over. Still, it kicked serious ass.
Saw this in Breck a couple days ago. Awesome flick. I really enjoyed the old footage of the European guys in the 80's. Skiing that terrain on those skis took some balls.
I plan to catch it in Cambridge on the 18th. Can't wait.
Caught it today at Cinema21 in Portland on my much needed "rest day" from skiing. Went 15 minutes early thinking it might be crowded. Was probably the first person in so guess they are not going to make much money.
Fairly low key documentary (I like). The footage and interview with Doug/ Emily Coombs is awesome. There is a lot of good footage of older stuff. I liked the stuff on Briggs and the Grand Teton and the Euros in the seventies/ eighties.
Surprised they covered Plake a lot more than Schmidt as "the" skier of the late eighties/ early nineties.
The other thing I found interesting was how much skiing has changed in the last 10 years or so. The older footage is people makign a bazillion turns and the newer stuff is much more flowing/ hardly any turns. I like the newer footage better but the older stuff is still good for nostalgia.
So, I like. Low key unlike most ski films. Worth my 4 bucks for admission.
Really? The admission is only 4 bucks?
...and I really enjoy low key films as well :)
prolly going to see it in tahoe (heavenly village) tonite.
