for the n. ut riders...
hit up the east fork/middle fork trails from the art nord trailhead. conditions are pretty ugly. it looks like they had the kentucky derby there during the last rainstorm :cussing: . about 90% dry but hardly any smooth sections. i don't know what it's gonna take to get it back to decent riding conditions.
anyone have any beta on the basin trails? GT?
Bruce and the DH course (Buckland, Wakeup call, tight trees) were AWESOME yesterday. Anyone want to shuttle this week after work, Tuesday maybe? I have to replace my rear tire on the big bike (blew off two turns into 2nd run on Bruce yesterday) but will go back soon if possible.
Mr.AG-If you don't mind showing me around (never been up there) I'd dig some shuttling tomorrow night. Have truck, will shuttle.
Not to invite myself, but I also would be psyched for an inspection lap of a new to me trail. Depending on the trail T might be up for it too. Had a pretty sweet time in Moab this weekend and would like to keep the flow going. Lots of fun air time. I know it's small but I finally cleaned one line into Jackass and am finally starting to feel good having my tires 4' in the air. It was a sweet weekend of riding other than a friend getting knocked out of commission for a while. Slow progression and extra padding is the name of the game for me. I was starting to think that I should just ride the big bike everywhere, it was feeling that good :)
I'll also be up for some XC action this week, but I will say I am really jazzed about more technical riding. The Ells didn't get touched all weekend ;) T & I are riding something after work tonight if I'm not needed on a conference call.
I'll tell her all about it...my guess is that it's not something she'd totally love -definitely different than DV or sundance for example. though it's something she could ride on the ML, but i probably wouldn't want to...and i'm just guessing it's more fun on a bigger bike;) its not really all that technical, except for the super tight trees/steep skinny singletrack/tight turn sections...at slower speeds though it's no big deal.
there's two places I know she'd probably not like... pinchflat alley... long section of baby heads/looseness - lower leg armor required;) (not to mention upper body protection is a good idea)
and there's a short, but steep super loose/sandy gravel section.
i'd assume you can get there when you get there.. and just wait for the shuttle to get back down, and take a turn up...
Edit: and damnit... now i'm thinking i'm going to go again if there's a plan formulating... may as well make yesterday's bruises bigger so they look super cool.
just will make one or two changes to the bike first.. and see if that makes a difference.
I have my bike and was planning on riding after work. I'm up for whatever, but I was thinking about hitting Draper again. After my recon last week, I have a new loop in mind. Start up Oak Hollow, east on the BST to Corner Canyon, maybe a CC climb to Traverse Ridge (Clark's Trail?), back the BST and down Spring Hollow to the car. I would assume around an hour and a half for the ride, adding or substracting loops as necessary. Interested?
I'd be psyched to do some DH runs tomorrow, but if the crew is too big I'll wait for a better time. I can go anytime all this week.
i'm kind of thinking, if the crew is that big.. we can run two shuttles.. (i have 4 slots on my rack) though the road is rough... it will be pretty bouncy on the bikes.
and maybe try to break it into the crew who plans on racing the DH there in 2 weeks...
and those of us who are not as core... and will do it slower anyway.
^What about those of us that are slow as shit, but are going to race it:D
Going to Go Ride tonight for pads (arm and leg), and working on borrowing a full face. No pressure suit or any craziness, but hopefully I'll have a few basic things by tomorrow night at least.
To contrast, I just spent my lunch break at the Riverdale park dirt jumps; my gear there consisted of some 5 dollar shin guards from Wally world and a pair of BD telemark knee pads.
You know damn right they were hiding under a pair of jeans, no chance in hell I was going to be flaunting that ghetto setup, but it did save a couple cheese grater shin incidents from occuring, so hell yeah for Wal-Mart soccer gear ;)
If there's room I'd love to come. I do not have a shuttle vehicle though.
yah, right... you'll just stand me up like you did in OHIO! (just kidding, no big deal - but we had a huge open bar and not enough people drinking- i was counting on you to help out;) ).
i can leave anytime from SLC after 3pm...maybe a few of us can get up there early, get rides in.. then i don't mind just being a driver..
JoshP - then you can borry my FF, it's a SM giro remedy though- will that work?
hmmm.....
SG-Thanks for the offer; too cool of you. Unfortunately, my head is the size of a small moon or a large space station, and I am more of a Large helmet kind of guy. I really appreciate it though. Boss just came through while typing this, full face for tomorrow night is a go.
I can be to Bountiful by 5:00 tomorrow night, by the way. Have the bed of the Taco and a two bike Yakima thing that can carry any frame on the planet, and maybe a small motorcycle, or a sailboat of some sort (it is cool).
Damnit! My liver got plenty punished that afternoon anyway, I had to go pretend to listen to medical people talk about medical things while eating filet mignon and bottomless glasses of wine/beer/g&t's. Search people would've been much more fun...seriously! Sorry I missed it.
As for riding, I'll bring a cooler full of beer to make up for it :)
yo, I want to kill some DH trails this week. Are the trails you are talking about the Bountiful DH trails?
My car rack does hold two big bikes, dunno if that's any help. I can be part of the early crew, maybe meet downtown? Bountiful? Is there even room for me?
I don't mind taking a lap off to shuttle everyone...not sure if Parrish is close to the other trails. I have no idea where anything is around here, really.
I live in Sandy, I think.
I found a map on the registration form for the downhill race that is up there in a few weeks........but since I am dumb, I can't link to the map. Try this though:
http://www.go-ride.com/
Click on the Utah Dh race series box on the upper right, then click on the Bountiful Bomber registration form and info link; there is a kick ass map on page two.
I picked up some shiny new armorish stuff that is begging to careen off rocks tomorrow after work.
I plan on getting to the B parking lot around 430 or 500pm. We'll need a few trucks to shuttle everyone but we can figure it out in the parking lot. Since so many want to go, I would suggest we just start once we are there with a full load and folks who show up after the first lap can wait in the parking lot for the next shuttle. I may be able to take about 5-6 riders plus a driver; again, we'll figure it out. See you guys up there.
This should work:

How'd you do that ;)
I should be there around 4:45. See you there.
I'll see you guys for lap two unless traffic is amazingly good. I probably won't be able to leave work till 5.
Oh man this all sounds like fun. Unfortunately for me, Tuesday is gay night... I play in a 16 week summer softball league. Otter, I am still down with Wednesday. If you find something you like at the B, maybe we could switch our ride from Muller to some kind of shuttle above the B.
Too early for me to get outta work. I may try to meet yall on lap 2 or 3 or something, but don't wait on me.
Ok, so it looks like Ski Monkey and I will be headed up late, getting there around 6:30...so while you all drink beer and chill and recover we can get a few last minute runs in. ;)
to anyone hitting up DV soon its was riding good today only a couple snow crossing on the runs. rode the trail buy silver lake express. best trails I have rode in utah so far:)
