Down By Law- I like them, too.
im sorry, but the pixies are the best band of my generation.
i dont know AFI very well, i just listend to a couple preview tracks, if you like the more recent bubblegum punk bands, i guess you might like AFI better.
but if your favorite punk bands are X, Black Flag, DK, and Fugazi (Brendan Canty produced The Thermals most recent album) and you like stripped down old school punk, then The Thermals kick AFI's ass ten different ways. AFI does have more ink though.
Fez, clearly I really need to work on my sarcasm. I’ve seen the Thermals and they’re good. Check-out the new(ish) records from Erase Errata and the Young Widows, while they’re not reviving the sounds of yesteryear they are punkasfuck.
one of my favorites is strung out they fuckin rock hard, the older stuff is a little less metal than the newer stuff. the guitar parts are crazy, and the drummer is amazing. i think they are a very underrated band. other than them my list goes.
pennywise
bad religion even there newer stuff is good some of their middle stuff i didnt like
nofx older stuff is better ribbed is one of my all time favorites
goldfinger
decendents
ignite is a great band as was mentioned earlier
dillinger escape plan definatly metal but bad ass
stretch armstrong good hardcore love their cover of pinks get the party started
older green day is pretty good kinda slow
afi very proud of ya is great
boris the sprinkler awesome and hilarious great live band, not to many shows i have seen the lead singer dressed up like the green m&m, mega anal is my favorite of theirs
slapstick, skapunk but good
i like early ataris
wizo awesome german band on fat wreck
millencollin
less than jake ska but really fuckin good
thats all i can think of right now plus i gotta get some work done
yeah Greydon, i got the sarcasm. I may live in montana, but i'm not from montana. not sure what it is, but montanans never get sarcasm. since i had never heard AFI, i had to check them out before i could say they suck. i checked them out, they suck.
and freeskisquaw, greatest punk album of the last 15 yrs? my ass! fugazi has put out 5 albums since 91, that should sum it up right there. afi isnt fit to carry fugazi's intruments.
how are the thermals live?
and ill check out those other bands for sure.
Fuck you posers, I'm repping the most hardcore shit ever: Good Charlotte.
OH YEAH!
Fugazi = $$. I got to see 'em 3 times,I think I spent a total of $16 on tickets for all three shows. Check out The Evens , Ians new band. Not punk, but it's good stuff I think.
that crowd looks super insane during police truck.
super as in rainbows and unicorns.
This is what a punk show is all about.
edit for: the unseen is pretty damn "good" live.
Haha youre so funny. Just because their new album isnt great doesnt mean that they suck. Listen to Shut your mouth and open your eyes, black sails in the sunset and the art of drowning. All three of those albums are excellent examples of a band's evolution from hardcore/punk to a different sound. Mabye they arent the best band of our generation, but they certainly are good. They also put on one hell of a live show, their fans are like no other.
Good. Saw them at the Filmore opening for somebody forgetable.
Yes I am. But not as funny as the kid who claims AFI are the best punk band since 1990. Have you ever heard the punk bands Skidrow or Poison? They were killing it 15 years ago and they look and sound a bit like AFI.
Whoever decided to mix makeup and music should be shot.
I'm a big fan of pretty much any band Brendan Kelly has been in:
Slapstick
The Broadways
The Lawrence Arms (awesome f-ing live show...)
The Falcon
then other random stuff:
Honor system
the ghost
the wunder years
American Steel
Dillinger Four
Hot Water Music
The Draft
NOFX
Rise Against
Samiam
Refused
One Man Army
Dead to Me
Against Me
Ignite
And the three bands I saw at my first show in Santa Cruz (vet's hall):
Strung Out
Lagwagon
No Use for a Name
and too many more to list
another great punk band is the nobodys they are part porno part rock all punk great songs like "fat hookers dont turn me on", "your so stupid", "milf" just to name a few
Yah you gotta love any of these guys. If you the Subhumans/Citizen Fish, Culture Shock is also good. Dick sang for all three bands. Culture Shock was the earlies.
Flux of Pink Indians were also great.
OLD Chumbawamba is great peace punk. Like "Never Mind the Ballots," etc.
Antisect is also some great peace punk if your into the old 3-chord punk like Crass.
Christ on Parade "sounds of Nature" and "A mind is a terrible thing" are great.
Have to 2nd tons of the bands people mentioned: MDC, Minor Threat, Fugazi, etc.
Also 2nd the following that were brought up but maybe not the exact record:
Accused: Most older are great
Suicidal Tendencies "Suicidal Tendencies" self titled is a classic for sure
GBH "Leather, Bristles, ...." is pretty alright
7 Seconds "The Crew"
Agent Orange "Living in Darkness" is great surf punk ala Dick Dale as mentioned
The Dicks "Hate the Cops" is another great one.
"The only good Crass band was Rudimentary Peni.." - Fat Mike
The P.E.A.C.E comp (I believe it was on Crass but can't remember) and Maximum Rock N Rolls "Welcome to 1984" were amazing comps. PEACE had alot of bands like MDC, Crass, etc. -- couldn't possibly pack more great classic punk onto 2 records. "Welcome to 1984" has alot of amazing stuff and alot of great international punk.
The Crucifucks "Wisconsin" was great if you can handle the guys voice. He's obviously trying to be annoying but it a classic as well.
Yah the Minutemen had a few cool toons. I think most of them were on a single 7". There other stuff was a little hard to listen to but interesting politics. Stiff Little Fingers are awesome!!! The old 77 sounds. Not that their music was that old but just that sound.
If you like Stiff Little Fingers you might like the Belltones. I never bought any of their music since I never seemed to have the cash when I saw anything of theirs but I remember them being VERY cool.
Just when I was going to say Stiff Little Fingers, guess I missed that earlier. BuZZcocks, Magazine, X , Germs , Black Flag, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Members, Eddie & the Hot Rods, KTels- Let's Go to Fuckin' Hawaii, Dishrags, DOA, Agent Orange, Subhumans, The Clash, of course the Sex Pistols, if you don't include Johnny Rotten & Sid et al you're not Punk, Butthole Surfers, Vibrators, Stranglers
tuff darts anyone?
Reagan Youth
Toy Dolls
Tiger Army (qyschobilly)
Defiance Ohio (folk punk)
and the newest local band . . . xSeditionx! And Agnostic Front isn't white power. They have a song called "Fascist Attitude"
Quote:
Why should you go around bashing one another
If they look or think different, why let it bother
Everyones got their own style, their own thoughts
Don't let it bother you, don't let it get caught
Your fascist attitudes - we need the least
With a scene that's fighting for unity & peace
Don't need more anger; no more danger
Don't need to hate; stop before it's too late
Learning how to respect each other is a must
So why start a war of anger & danger among us
It's time to grow out of your nazi hypocrism
When you really don't want part of a fucked up system
Bump.
Check out Aus-Rotten

KTels- Let's Go to Fuckin' Hawaii,
These guys got sued so if you are ever looking for them they became the Young Canadians and they do rock.
Punk music is still the shit even if BlurredElevens thinks rap has replaced it.
I still throw some Propagandhi, Rancid, and the ever-popular over-recorded NOFX

Sewer Trout
Crimpshrine
Pinhead Gunpowder
Neurosis
Downfall

Purposely left Operation Ivy out there. They were gods

This thread rules.
I saw Nomeansno a few months ago. The guys are gettin' old but they haven't lost it. The show fukin ruled. Mid-week show with no booze and the crowd was going insane.
