I lived in the deep south when I was in the military and it's everywhere down there.
On occasion I have used filé (sassafras root IIRC) and okra. That’s kind of belt and suspenders but no one’s complained. Sometimes I have been known to throw in some turkey and corn and I call it New England Gumbo, that’s enough to piss off a puristQuote:
