Absolutely. One of my favorite car memories evar was getting to drive Sean Elliot's (of the San Antonio Spurs) E39 M5 with the manual trans. Absolutely lovely car with one of the most perfect shifters I've ever had the pleasure of using. Silky smooth, powerful engine. Car just felt so poised and refined. May actually be one of the most 'perfect' cars I've ever driven. Period.

^^^ that's the magic you're talking about. Some cars have it. Most don't. Even fewer new ones do.

E34 had it. E30 had it. E39 had it (a long with timing chain guides issues).
So, I need some magic. Oh, and my boy wants to know what there is to see from Chicago to salt lake. I told him I would show him the world's largest corn field.

The extra 200 miles to take 90 and then go across Eastern Wyoming are worth it, IMO. Rapid City and the surrounds don’t get enough love. The drive afterwards is magic and you don’t always have a reason to drive through that part of the country. If you have time I would stop in Laramie.

Well, we made it back to SLC. Car drove fantastic, and is happy as can be at 95-100 hour after hour after hour, and get a about 25mpg going that fast, and like 26.5 at about 80. The pouring rain and traffic in and out of Des Moines last night suuuuucked.... Otherwise uneventful. And the boy was good company.

Agreed. I had successfully wiped it from my memory, but now it's back, hey sucka, you still got like 9 hours to go!

It's almost like the halfway point between Chicago and Salt Lake.
