There's rules and regulations out there.. I dunno if the little shark was legal to keep or not, but a guide requiring or encouraging a client to throw back a catch is certainly not uncommon.

I got to see and have my hand grazed by a big great white while cage diving there. It’s intimidating to see one quickly appear out of the murkiness underwater.

Back when we were diving for abalone on the north coast, we'd go into some pretty sharky places, and of course there were seals around. The fuckers just love to swim around you just at the edge of viz - seeing a big shape slowly moving around you was just a great feeling. You know they were doing it on purpose.Quote:

That actually happened to a dive trip we were planning. I was part of a group that was planning a hike in abalone dive up on the lost coast - nice reef, big abs, but a pretty long hike in. It was worth it though, some big hubcap sized abalone up there. Well, a few weeks before we were going, some diver got attacked and killed at this spot. No one in the group said anything, but word started to get out to our wives. One morning not long after, my wife read about it in the news. "Is that the spot you guys are going to?". "Uh, I don't know.." was my reply. She know I was lying 'cuz she's my wife and went ballistic. Pretty soon the other wives knew what was up. That was the end of that trip.

Guy never paused swimming, just kept going.
My father in law was on the Indianapolis. He more or less abandoned my wife, so we didn’t find out about it til after he passed. He got some citation for saving lives or something
